  • Those look like pretty normal prices for that area. I know my sister had her tummy done after 140 lbs of weight loss and she said it was about 7500-8000 in Springfield. Unfortunately it varies by area of the country. I'm in Scottsdale and it's much higher. I went last week for a consult, though I'm still about a year away…
  • Welcome!!
  • Good for you in making this decision! I'm 46 too, and had my vsg March 2012. I never thought I'd choose to have surgery.. but I finally got to a point in thinking that at age 45, if you'd have asked me at age 35 where I expected to be with my weight, I'd have sworn I would have had it under control by now. And I decided I…
  • Ohhh so true to the above. I also agree on the "6 mo of fast loss and then mental after that" There is NO WAY that I'd have had the success I've had without ongoing therapy (group and private for me) (with a psychcologist who specializes in obesity/overeating/weight) for the past 3 years. I feel positive that it is the…
  • I hit the same thing... 12 lb loss post surgery, and then 3-4 weeks of nothing. So frustrating, but it was the first of many! And actually I learned that I pretty much lose 1-2 a week for 3 weeks, and then drop a bunch in the 4th week. For me, I knew I had a LONG journey (with over 200 to lose) so I had to get myself…
  • So.... my first question is what are you doing for fiber? Do you track your fiber intake? How much fiber are you getting from food, and how much are you getting from suppliments?
  • ....You mean other than the general every day effects of smoking before surgery... such as cancer, lung disease and shortened life span? Yes, I know I'm being jugemental, but it's terrible for you, and WHY on earth would you go through the VSG surgery for your health, and not eliminate the biggest health risk. Stop it.…

  • Completely get this topic. While I haven't gained anything back (And I'm thrilled with a 125 lb loss at 11 months out) I also have been stalled for almost 2 months. All_In, have you thought about seeing a therapist that specializes in obesity/overeating? I've been seeing a great person for the past two years, participating…
  • Spfldpam... I'm in that same boat... 46... over 250 since I was 22. Sigh. Oh well. Better the saggy skin than the fat. :)
  • Lord, I make all sorts of stomach gurgle sounds. And that's one year out!
  • Each person is different I think, however the big thing in your favor is your age. If you hit the weight training hard, I'll bet that you don't have too much of an issue :)
  • AND the great thing is that IT WILL WORK!!! (You just have to give it the tools to let it work!) I can honestly say that I've felt less "diet/weightloss stress" with this, than with any other thing I've tried. I try to be very present with the thought of "All I have to do is to let the sleeve do it's job" and it works.…
  • I recommend a therapist who specializes in overeating/obesity. For me, I absolutely need/needed it, and without it I know I would not have had the success I've had with my VSG. It's a long journey for me. And therapy (I do group & private) has just been another tool with the surgery. You have to get your head straight,…
  • I think the above is a key, key point. There are always going to be things you want, things you miss, etc etc... Slippery slope. When I am tempted by "testing" various things, I try to really think about why I did this surgery, and how it's not over after I lose the weight. I don't "get to go back to my old life, but…
  • I was sleeved March 2012, have had great results and have about another 110 lbs to go. Feel free to friend me. Jill
  • Hi Katrina, Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I'll add you as a friend, and also feel free to ask me anything. (lots I don't know, but lots I can give my experience on :) ) As for what you need pre/post surgery, your best resource is the program you are going through, and the people who've gone through it there. Most also…
  • 10 months out, and try to stay around 900-1000 calories.
  • Have you ever had a sleep study done?
  • I think the seeds are always there, but with time, and work, you have less contact with acting on those triggers. I will say this, for me, I couldn't have done it, without my therapist. She specializes in overeating and obesity issues, and while I know the VSG was the tool that worked for me, the therapy and the things…
  • I started at 380, which was my highest, and have lost 120 so far, in 10 months. I'm currently at 260. I fluctuated between 260-360 for the last 12 years, so it finally feels like I'm just getting to "new" weight loss... meaning I haven't seen visited my current number various times previously!
  • Premier Protien, pre-mixed, I get mine at Costco. I usually do chocolate, but occasionally do vanilla and add SF Toroni syrups for different flavors (30g/shake) I do half for breakfast, and if I need more protien to hit my goal, then drink the other half at night Jill
  • Hi Tasha, Really, it does get easier. I struggled the first month in getting in enough protien, anything over about 45g was difficult. Are you using any protien shakes? I use the individual pre-mixed Costco ones, which are 30g each, so I usually do 1/2 in the morning and then if I haven't reached my protein goal for the…
  • HI Tiffany, I self paid for my sleeve and I don't regret it one bit. My only wish is that I'd done sooner. I've had excellent results! Jill
  • Congrats! Where did you have your surgery?
  • Hi Mandy, They did give me injections while in the hospital, (I think it was Heperin?) in lower abdomin. I didn't have to have them after leaving the hospital. Jill
  • I'd doubt it's more than that. I paid out of pocket for sleeve in Scottsdale and it was about 23k. Since it was oop, it was discounted and I asked my friends what their insurance was charged. One said around 35k, and one said around 38k to insurance. So I'd imagine yours would be well under 60k.
  • The hospital I had mine done at has various support groups for WLS. I faithfully go to those. I even go to a 2nd hospital's support group. And I see a therapist. You might check into all those options. (I work with a therapist that specializes in weight/obesity/eating disorders. If you don't know how to find one in that…
  • So excited for both of you!! I finally hit my 100 lb mark this week, having been sleeved March 15. I'm so happy about this journey. You both will do great!!
  • Welcome everyone new!
