  • Hi! I encourage you to join this group of other MFPers with thryroid problems, like myself! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/770-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism I was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid problem this summer and I'm currently hyperthyroid, although we're unsure exactly what's going on still. The…
  • Just made these today! Very good, nice and fudgy! Can hardly tell they're so healthy!
  • I think a skirt bottom is a great idea for sure! When choosing colors/patterns, go with something loud or bright on top and something solid or more subdued on bottom; this will bring attention away from your legs/hips. Congrats on making it to this point!
  • Oh yes I've made these before, love it! I'll usually throw in a some chocolate chips and some craisins, they're a great combo! I love the chewy texture of these! And so so easy too!
  • I have a Nano that's about a year and a half old and I love it for working out! Its very small, maybe 1.5" square and it has a clip so I just clip it to my shirt when I work out. It came pre-loaded with a Nike+ app that I only recently started using, but I'm in love with it. It tracks your runs (time, distance, pace,…
  • Hi! I grew up in Fort Atkinson, WI and now I'm living in Milwaukee! These low temps are killing me! I went on spring break to Mississippi last week and got to go for 5 runs in the 60s and 70s there and now all I want to do is run but its like 14 degrees today. Ugh. Hurry up, spring!
  • You are doing SO well! I love having you as a friend, you are always so positive and focused on health! You look fantastic and I know you've worked so hard for this; be proud!
  • I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad its sparked you to take charge of your life. It sounds like you're getting down on yourself for every little thing that you're not doing right. Instead, try focusing on one thing at a time that you can change. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to make a ton of big changes all at…
  • Swimming is a fantastic work out!! I was a competitive swimmer in high school and that put me in incredible shape (granted I swam about 25 hours a week, plus lifting and running). I've been getting back into it the past couple months and I love it. Right now I'm just doing it once a week as a change of pace from my normal…
  • I'd just like to point out that while yes, it does take a very slight energy input to break down fat stores to be used as energy, you get a very large amount of energy out from it. So, biochemically speaking, you don't really need to have much available energy to break down fat because once you break down the first…
  • Oh yes! I was very very tall for my age as a child and the rest of my body couldn't keep up, so I was very thin. I hit the height I am today, 5'7", when I was 13, and I was probably no more than 110 pounds going into high school. Once I was in high school, I became extremely active with swimming and track and I started…
  • Special K's popcorn chips are so good! A 30-chip serving is only 120 cals. I love to eat the sea salt ones with guac, but I know they have other flavors too. I also love Quaker's Popped chips... they're like mini rice cakes! I just finished a bag of cheddar ones tonight; so good! 18 chips for 140 calories, but they're…
  • If you've found an antihistamine that works for you without bad side effects, don't be afraid of using it as needed! I have chronic idiopathic urticaria with angioedema, which means I get terrible hives all over my body every single day for no known reason. Some days my lips and eyes will swell up too. My immunologist has…
  • Be sure to shower, or at the very least, wash your face immediately after your workout. You might need to switch up your cleanser to handle the increased sweat and oil if you're using a pretty mild one right now.
  • I do love green tea, I will get various flavored varieties by Lipton. I have read studies that have shown green tea to have fat burning effects, however you definitely need more than just a cup or two a day to get this effect.
  • Hi!! I'm 5'6.5" and started out at 175 about 5 weeks ago, down to 164 now! My goal is 140 and then I'll see how it's looking from there! Feel free to add me :) I log religiously, haha.
  • I love it sauteed.... Tear or chop it up coarsely, then boil it for about 5 minutes. Drain, submerge in ice water, then drain again. Heat up a little bit of olive oil in a pan and add some chopped up garlic. Once the garlic starts to brown a little, throw in the kale and a tablespoon or two of dried cranberries. Saute a…
  • Hi! I'm a college student in Milwaukee (I go to Marquette), and I have to say, I do love it here! Definitely lots to do, endless concerts, clubs, etc. Lots of festivals in the summer for sure! Plenty of gyms and grocery stores, I know there's a Whole Foods right by UWM's campus. Summer to fall there's certainly farmers…
  • Olives have super healthy fats in them, as opposed to candy which provides just empty calories! I'd say as long as it fits in your calories, go for it!!
  • In terms of pushing yourself to do longer workouts, work up to it. You know you can do 30 minutes. Next time do 31! Jumping straight to 45 can seem daunting and its so easy to talk yourself out of it, but I'm positive you can go an extra minute. Once you know you can do 31, do 32! Just work your way up to it gradually.
  • I try to drink green tea every day. Right now I've got Lipton Purple Acai and Blueberry flavor, which is yummy and full of antioxidants! Overall, green tea has been shown to promote fat loss when consumed regularly. I add just a little bit of sugar to mine so its still not very many calories at all.

  • Hi! Welcome! There's no day like today to finally start making the changes you've always been saying you would. Props to you for taking the first step! Feel free to add me if you'd like. :)
  • Hi, I had iron-deficiency anemia about two years ago. Once I started taking iron supplements regularly it was probably a month or two, although to be honest I wasn't very good about taking the pills regularly. I still don't eat very much red meat at all but I try to make sure I'm getting it from other dietary sources like…
  • I actually love to mix hot cocoa mix into my coffee. It makes it taste like a mocha! You can get pretty low sugar cocoa mixes out there that keep the calories low. I got a gift set with five different flavors of cocoa mix for Christmas, but before that I used to buy the big tubs of it!
  • If you have one available to you at your college, I would recommend talking to a therapist about this. Social anxiety is a real disorder and there are a lot of different ways out there to help you deal with it. One treatment I remember learning about in one of my psych classes is a group session, where its just a bunch of…
  • Hi! I'm 5'7". When I was 175 (my heaviest) I was a size 12. I'm working my way down from there!
  • Hi! I'm 21, and a full time college student majoring in Physiological Sciences, and I'm pre-med and preparing to graduate so I'm very busy. I was a very active athlete in high school then got lazy in college and gained 30 lbs. I'm 5'7", current weight 170, goal weight 140. Anyone can feel free to add me!
  • I definitely feel for you! I had shin splints every year for 6 years in a row back when I was a hurdler in track. My only recommendations beyond yours are ice, heat, and ibuprofen for the pain. For the heat, you can take a tube sock and fill it with rice and microwave it then lay it over your shins for a while.
  • Hi! I also struggle with thyroid problems and I wanted to let you know that there is a group here on MFP for those with hypo and hyperthyroidism. You should check it out!
  • I literally just made that EXACT recipe last night!! It is fantastic! I had tried kale once before and wasn't a big fan but I decided to give it another shot and I definitely enjoyed it the way I had it last night! Will be making again for sure!
