  • These are great suggestions. The only super-close place to your suggested hotels that I've eaten at (that I can recommend) is CraftSteak at the MGM. It's a bit pricey (like the rest of the Strip) but you can easily put together something healthy-ish if you order a small cut of meat and vegetable sides. I don't love a…
  • Take a break and eat at maintenance for a month. Some people on this site have had a lot of success taking breaks to maintain their current weight loss, and then starting back up when they feel ready to start losing again. It's kind of brilliant, IMHO.
  • I'm not sure. I'm not educated on the cost of this device verses the cost of other treatments verses the cost of obesity. I don't mean to sound callous, but you can bet big pharma is doing this math when they explore options.
  • It does exactly what it's supposed to do by teaching the patient nothing. From the website: Many patients choose to keep the AspireAssist in place to ensure that they maintain their weight loss...if the AspireAssist is needed to maintain weight loss, it is likely weight regain will occur if therapy is stopped. It works…
  • This makes no sense, on several levels: Katherine D. Crothall, president and CEO of Aspire Bariatrics, the maker of the AspireAssist, said she understood why people might find the idea of the pump "gross" but insisted it offered a viable way for morbidly obese people to drop pounds. "Some people manage to lose weight on a…
  • Chicken tinga, Spanish rice, steamed broccolli.
  • I eat out several times a week- I love it! I just do my best to make reasonable choices, exercise portion control, and err on the side of overestimating calories. If I must have something that's higher in calories (pizza!) I stop after 2 slices. I used to avoid eating out because I was worried it would impede my progress;…
  • Since you asked for our personal "opinions"... I have coworkers who regularly cycle through Whole 30 and are all 30-40 pounds overweight- they have yet to make a lot of progress in their goals. I've reached the point where I've fallen in various places in a 10ish pound range over the past few years. I come back to MFP…
  • I eat a lot of the same things at breakfast because I'm not trying to get creative first thing in the morning and I need something fast that I can eat at my desk. Lunches are the same few things if I bring them, and that's more down to my food preparation skills and what I can practically carry to work. I eat lunch out a…
  • That turkey pita idea is great. I pack a cooler with things like fruit (watermelon, grapes, berries) string cheese, plenty of fancy water (IDK why but it makes me feel less deprived in this type of situation) and cut veggies. Maybe toss in some hummus if you need a dipper.
  • I know someone who used to brag about only eating fast food. Once I started watching this person, I realized they always got a small cheeseburger, fed half to the dog, and often did not order fries or only had a few of them. He may not be eating everything he says he is. Incidentally, on the rare occasion I get a fast food…
  • I log them, but I don't know how accurate it is, because I don't measure or weigh vegetables. I'll try to be somewhat accurate with sugary fruits (like grapes) but I can't get excited about measuring kale or lettuce. I absolutely measure the oil or butter that I put on my vegetables.
  • Pork tenderloin, corn/tomoato/okra, steamed squash, roasted potato wedges.
  • Could not have said this better.
  • A small or medium potato (skin on for more nutrition) topped with hummus. You can microwave the potato.
  • Enjoy yourself!!! If it makes you feel better, pick one meal a day where you indulge (like a good evening dinner). But don't hold back if there is anything you really love and that will be worth the calories! I always tell myself I didn't gain weight by enjoying a vacation, and truth be told, I've never gained so much as a…
  • I use the deck of cards trick for meat, I stay away from the breadbasket (or I just have a piece), and I skip dessert (I'm not much of a sweets person anyway). I don't get overly worried about vegetable portions/dressing on side salads, but for an entrée salad I'll order the dressing on the side. Honestly, if you're…
  • Split pea soup, with a side of whole wheat pita bread dipped in hummus and harissa.
  • Is this an isolated comment, or is he generally like this? That would inform my response a great deal.
  • What a wonderful outcome. Best of luck to you.
  • LOL this is EXACTLY what I was going to suggest. EXACTLY.
  • Thanks for all the ideas! The Gobi thingie looks right up my alley.
  • Interesting. I have one that I've never used (I forgot about it until I saw this thread, to be honest). How do you make stuffed portobellos in there? Pizza???
  • No to the cleanse. Yes to first changing your diet, and then adding exercise as you feel ready. I think pacing yourself is a great strategy to ease yourself into new, lifelong routines! If you do too much too fast, you might feel totally overwhelmed and just give up. These changes must feel and be achievable in order to…
  • You sound like a wonderful mother- it must be a lot of work making all of those home-cooked meals for your family! I can tell you what has helped me: I had to train myself to eat only at mealtimes (at least on Monday - Friday). If I must have a snack (usually around 4pm) then it's fresh fruit. Honestly, if you can make it…
  • I go over my daily calorie allotment about one day each week- usually it's over by between 250-500 calories on that day. I don't worry about it. I don't care how long it takes to lose weight as long as the scale is moving in the right direction, however slowly. It's a much happier existence and very different than how I…
  • Do they need to be low-calorie because you will be eating fast food frequently? I don't eat fast food a lot- maybe once a month. When I do eat fast food, I find it's better to eat whatever I want and be done with it until the next month. Now, if I'm stuck eating fast food because of a situation outside my control or poor…
  • Well, you went 3 months with alcohol so clearly you can stop at 1 (which means no issue with fitting it in your calorie goals). Cheers!
  • Pardon- I see that you started in March. Have you said how long you have been stuck? If it's just 2-3 weeks, I would keep doing what you're doing for another 2 weeks and see if you lose anything.
