  • Hello ... I've been on MFP and a part of this group for a long time, but have wandered a bit. Now I'm trying to get back to a healthier version of myself. Not on any meds atm... Just as I get diagnosed my local neuro takes away the diagnosis -since 2011... ugh! Hoping they get it together soon. I have about 40 kg to…

  • I lose weight instantly when I follow Paleo. For most people they can "maintain" doing 80% paleo and still 20% everything else, but I put the pounds back on right away when I quit. I also have thyroid issues though. I did Whole 30 and by the end of the 30 days had lost an average of around 4 lbs/week. I was eating mostly…
  • I really liked my fitbits (Ultra and then One) for the most part. I've just recently switched to the Withings Pulse though and love the heart rate function. It doesn't have a constant monitor, but you can pull it out and check your heart rate periodically if you like and it's all within a single device. Love it.
  • I've made them all... meatza, cauliflower, etc. I've never really tried one I didn't like. Some are more satisfying though. The ones I continue to make again and again are: http://theysmell.com/delicious-no-carb-pizza-recipe/ (cheesy) ...and... http://pinterest.com/pin/171136854562711472/ (crispy)
  • Kind bars (blueberry pecan are my favs) Fruit and Veggie Smoothie (I blend it the night before and throw it in the freezer so it's still frosty halfway through my trip) Almonds or trail mix I love the idea someone else posted about packing wraps. Going to try that one myself next time. :)
  • Everything I've read about vitamin D says it's important to take it with calcium and magnesium. This from Managing Multiple Sclerosis Naturally which is one of many such sources (you can ask your doctor about this too): Importance of Combining (D3) with Calcium and Magnesium Vitamin D controls the level of calcium in the…
  • Metformin made me hungry and I gained weight on it. Not sure why, but different strokes for different folks. I went paleo (grain free.. still ate a little bit of dairy) and dropped 25 lbs in a couple months without bothering to count calories. Had way more energy and my symptoms started clearing up. Then I went on vacation…
  • Steroids are no fun. I gained 10 kg (about 22 lbs, I think) on 4 months of oral steroids a couple years ago. I switched doctors and my new doc told me I should have been on a strict low card, low saturated fat diet limiting even rice and whole grains while on steroids. Not only did steroids raise my glucose, but also…
  • Thanks for the input. My husband originally got me the fitbit instead of the bodymedia because it's able to be worn under the clothing and the free website. My fitbit is turning on once again and no longer giving me an error so I'm going to wait it out a bit more. I love my fitbit and it is accurate and helpful, I'm just…
  • I'm waiting to hear back from them. When my first one broke they sent me a replacement from Indonesia that got tangled up in customs that I had to pay about $50 of taxes to have it released. I replaced that one with the new Fitbit One in November and it's giving me an error code. I'm waiting to hear back from customer…
  • Double vision was the symptom that finally got my attention. Even then, I waited almost 3 months before going to the eye doctor who sent me to the ER. Funny how easy it is to ignore our health until thing really come to a crisis.
  • Thanks for your reply. You're definitely right about them using a strange method for diagnosing. I thought I could wait it out while they worked it out until I got TN. That's when I started to get a little crazy about getting some help. I actually gave up on my neuro and went to see my GP who wanted to put me on Tegretol,…
  • I've never baked fruit that I can remember. These recipes sound good though. Usually I put fruit that's starting to get a little old in a pot and simmer it until it's stirable and eat it as dessert. My favorite is an apple and a few small plums. But fresh pears, peaches, apricots, grapes... all work well. Basically…
  • The best thing I've done recently for improving the kind of food I'm eating was to buy a steamer (they run about $30 on Amazon). I seriously use it at least twice a day during the week. Twice a week I steam a tray of eggs in it (12 minutes for perfectly hard boiled eggs) and take two of them to work with me for breakfast…
  • Great job! I'm hoping paleo does the same for me. Thanks for the motivating pics! You look great! :)
  • Saw it. Went paleo instead. Still try to keep 75% of my diet fruits and veggies and the other 25% is proteins like nuts and meats. https://www.facebook.com/therecoveringvegetarian?fref=ts
  • Originally south of Pittsburgh, PA.... lived 15 years in Dayton, Ohio and now 5 in the Alps in north Italy.
  • Recently went paleo. Not able to do excessive amounts of exercise, but since I gave up the wheat and white sugar the weight is coming off anyway.
  • Hi... it's not a heart rate monitor. While you can manually enter activities during which time it will estimate calories burned and adjust your step count, it gives an estimated number of calories burned during a specific activity (not taking into account heart rate). I love my fitbit, but if you're looking for something…
