I'll only add things I didn't see on the above list: beef chorizo, turkey sausage, jello sugar free pudding (love this!), non sweetened ghiradelli chocolate bar, and experimenting with Splenda sugarless brown sugar (ok). Oh and tofu.

These survey questions made me realize something. Can you imagine the resources MFP has from thousands of dieters who record everything they eat and all their exercise. You would think they would have come up with some sort of statistical analysis at this point. Or perhaps MFP is owned by food manufacturers, and they want…

I have a different definition of flexible dieting. I diet for 3-4 months - take a 2 month break - diet again for 3-4 months. And even while I am dieting, I have days of below 1000 calories and some days at 2200 calories. Some days I keep my carbs to 20 grams, occasionally I go to 150 grams. I try to keep changing things up…

I have been wondering about this because Gary Taubes says that most people are burning ketones when we sleep from the excess carbs eaten during the day. Is ketones just a fancy name for fat? Do you have a source for your info? (Not because I don't believe you, but because I want to read more.) I've been eating about 60…

I had a wake up call 5/6 years ago when I read that cereal ingredients on the boxes used different types of sugar , so sugar will not be the main ingredient. I used to eat Almond Delight for breakfast. Blew me away when I realized they have 5 different kinds of sugar so that none of them would be high on the ingredients…

I should have added Dr Fung's fasting protocols for type 2 Diabetes. I haven't tried this. (I have awesome blood glucose PTL.) He puts his type 2's on 1-3 weeks of water fasting. https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/ This Dr has a huge cure rate for type 2. He found most of his patients couldn't stick to low car diets,…

I understand. 5:2 stopped working for me after 3 months because I found ways to eat around it. I almost always eat healthy though (I'm sorta fanatic).

I've lost the same 20/25 pounds twice in the last 6 years. So this time, I decided I had to lose at least 35#s. I lost 20#s in Spring, took a 2 month break. Now I'm in my second go round - Goal to lose another 15-20#s by Thanksgiving (down almost 10 at the moment), take another 2 month break. Then lose another 30#s next…

I make my own kombucha - usually with home brewed ginger tea. It tastes a little like ginger ale. I rarely drink more than 1/4 cup at a time, and I've been making and drinking it for over a year. Most of the store bough varieties are pasteurized which kills the bacteria.

Do you mean like taking a nap or taking a break from the diet on the weekends?

Nice! How much weight have you lost?

Thank you Gale.Your info is good news for me since I can do without grains but not even a little bit of sugar ...that would be very very hard. :)

Since I've started VLCHF (<70 net carbs a day) 3 weeks ago, I have quite worrying about when I eat. since I'm losing more weight and my net calories are lower than before when I was doing 15:9. I do occasionally skip breakfast though.

Awesome advise! Thank you.

@lodro That tomato soup recipe looks awesome, and I have lots of ripe tomatoes. Thank you for sharing.

Beans have a lot of fiber, so not as much carbs as they seem. I've been adding a few to some of my meat dishes, and been doing fine with them. I haven't had any bread for 3 weeks though.

Nice tips. Thank you.

Net - about 40-60 grams a day (except an occasional cheat day). I won't go below that unless I stop losing weight. But I keep my calories between 1400-1800 a day.

Lol - me too. I always subtract them and am losing weight on 50-60 grams of net carbs a day. And I love my 4 cups of coffee a day. (2 black and 2 with cream and xylitol)

i just read Gary Taube's book "Why We Get Fat." According to him, anytime we are not burning carbs, we are burning ketos - which for most people happens some every night. He suggests not exercising too much and limiting carbs to 50-60 a day. I've cut back on my carbs (from 120 gr to 60 gr net), increased my protein and fat…
