hey tony- this is from the Mayo Clinic: Supplements vs. whole foods Supplements aren't intended to be a food substitute because they can't replicate all of the nutrients and benefits of whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables. So depending on your situation and your eating habits, dietary supplements may not be worth…

if you decide to do New Rules of Lifting for Women (Which i am doing, currently in stage 4)- be sure to join the FB page- you will get a LOT of helpful advice, including which exercises to switch out (this is an older book and we don't do some of the moves anymore)- and you can get help with your form etc... (we post…

Put the scale away for a month. Get used to eating- then check in after 4-6 weeks.

Depending on what you are talking about, there is very little agreement about what constitutes 'correct' form. I recently read a Tnation article arguing for rounded shoulders when deadlifting. THere are many people who argue that a squat and a deadlift is the same thing. There is so much room for variations in form- and…

I only ever needed to 'cheat' when i was trying to maintain a low-calorie diet. Now that i eat 2100-2400 cals/day, there's no need to cheat. I want it and it fits in my macros? I have it.

yes, there is a whole board here devoted to the topic. It's not nearly as magical as it sounds at first, as you said you just undercut your calories burned in a day by a tiny amount and get on a slow boat to weight loss- a happy, energetic, well-fed boat. I'm currently doing this in conjuction with heavy weights- loving…

What is IPOARM?

congratulations on changing your life!!! Way to go!

Have you considered trying to gain muscle mass through heavy lifting? I've written and spoken the exact words that you just wrote. I understand,...maybe you are losing a battle with yoru metabolism- dieting off muscle and slowing things down- that is what it sounds like to me. I was caught in the same loop- six day…

you have to cook and then it becomes easy. trying to buy prepared foods is just impossible. that's my two cents and i've been working on this for over a year. Good luck!

I"m doing NROLFW and EM2WL so i needed to get more protein than I could eat. I was very leery of adding a protein supplement- it felt weird to be working hard to cut out fake food and then go and drink protein. On the other hand, I found I was falling into a rut of eating the same foods every day just to hit my macros…

You must feel amazing!!!! Well done!!!

Good for you Dan, you realized you were in a lousy place and you made the first move by posting on here. Second move by speaking to your awesome wife (never helps to try to hide things from those who truly love us)...WELL DONE! Things will get easier from here, your post really touched me, so honest. Take care and I'll be…

i had to stop.... i too am married to a chef. I finally realized it isn't right to put him through the BS...the whinging on about the scale, the tears, the sulks, the mixed messages. He is a very patient man, but seriously i was getting sick of listening to myself. So i stopped talking about it. I'm now EM2WL and and heavy…

Toronnnno right here! Welcome!

Thank you for your service to our country. I"m sorry that your personal life fell apart- it's amazing how resilient you've been. This story really inspired me!

congratulations!!! you look great!

i like fat. Fat tastes good- i use 1 tbsp of mayo, some grainy mustard and some sambal oelek. Delicious!

try it for a month and put your scale away. Look at it like this, you can't possibly gain any real weight eating 2000 cals a day, can you?
-
Hey bb, i've found it useful to remember that i'm looking for a trend in weight loss, rather than getting hooked on an 'amount lost'- i.e. picture the weight on a graph. I was 154.6, then 152, then 153.4...a downward trend. As long as the general trend continues you are golden! does that help?

I am eating what I want to an extent- if it fits within my macros, i'm eating it- but be careful- you can stay within your macros and be completely deficient in Vitamins A, B and C and/or calcium. I've had days where I hit my macros and have like 5% Vitamin c (not ok!)- so eat the rainbow of veg/fruits if you can. I eat…

i am doing pushups on an incline as well- i did a more in-depth post on another thread so i'll post it here- i just did the first workout of STage 1 on Monday. I was SO scared to go in the weight room- does anyone else feel like that? I guess it's been too long since i've been in an situation where I feel like the 'dumb…

i say this honestly, you were gorgeous at 200 but you are stunning now!!

congratulations!!!!!!

wow- you brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful post...really touching. YOU are pretty amazing!

i can relate. for me, starting with activity is the key- you'll feel a boost just from getting active and it makes it easier to make good choices. It is hard to keep willpower going- I"m sorry you feel down :(

is it possible that you are eating too little on an ongoing basis and so you feel the need to totally dump the whole thing about half the time (i.e. it is too hard to keep up)? everybody has their own advice about cheat days, but for me personally, I've realized that one day a week of eating like crazy can mathematically…

my thinking is yes that would be ok. obviously we prefer to get our nutrients from naturally-occuring substances, but I find it very difficult. I use a protein powder- but do be careful when choosing one as many of them are full of the nasty stuff we avoid when trying to clean up our diets- I choose Only Protein, chocolate…

gotcha! thanks!
