whoa nelly must feel great!!!!

I'm able to personally testify to fact that it is a lovely evening. Maybe just go out for a walk? Even on your own, it feels good to be out and about. Just a quick cruise up and down State St or the Square or Monroe St?

You look so happy! Wonderful story, wonderful results, wonderful long life to enjoy them ahead of you. Oh - and PS - who knew you'd have such great legs!! :-)

I now keep a bag of raw almonds at work to keep me going if I get hungry between meals.

I think they are terrific. Takes no effort to rinse them off in a colander and then you can just pour them into soup or use them in lieu of noodles. The angel hair and rice styles are better than the fettucine styles, at least for me.

Thanks to all of you who commented on my entry this morning. It's certainly kept the happy feeling fresh all day!

Not sure if others said this already, but if you really are eating properly and exercising for months without seeing even a small effect, it is time to see a doctor. Thyroid, hormone imbalances, insulin cycles - all these might possibly be in need of checking, to make sure there isn't something physiological that is in…

LOL. As someone whose weight has gone up and down a lot over the years, I have clothes in many sizes stashed away. Now that I am slowly coming down from highest lifetime weight, I have begun doing something called "shopping in my closet." Every month I spend some time rummaging in back hall closets and deep storage to find…

I eat Chinese several times a month but try to stick with vegetables and things that are non-oily, such as steamed vegetables, plain rice and broths. I was surprised when I checked into the calorie load for things like dumplings, even when steamed, so I use those as a treat rather than a full appetizer or main course.

I set out to lose exactly half of me, and go from 272 pounds to 136 pounds. I have been absolutely diligent about logging all my food and the result has been that I am infinitely better at making healthier choices. When I see things like cake or bread, I find myself mentally going "is it worth the calories?" and ""can I…

While it is true that the basics are calories-in and calories-expended, it is also true that research now suggests that people may react to certain carbs a bit differently, with some having a stronger insulin response. Even without any kind of "intolerance" as mentioned by many on this site, it is possible that those who…

I envy your 137! That's my goal weight and I am also 5'3" - but of course we are all different. As to 1200 - I've been staying pretty close to that for a while. Seems I must load my meals with salad and vegetables to bulk up without calories and eat a more modest level of most proteins, which are calorie dense. When I do…

great freakfest outfit!

I love reading entries like yours. While it makes me jealous, it also gives me hope! Your transformation is profound. You go girl!

get the book by allen carr - seriously - it changes your mind set. instead of feeling annoyed because you must deprive yourself of the cig you want, you switch to feeling liberated as a nonsmoker and annoyed that the cravings are interfering with your good feeling. it makes a world of difference. worked for my guy, and…

I have the same two medical conditions - PCOS and low thyroid - and started at almost exactly the same weight. Am also trying to keep carbs moderate while eating in the 1200 cal range. Just discovered something you might like as a substitute for pasta. So-called "miracle noodles" are a zero calorie, zero-carb plant-based…

anything at all that clings!

I've discovered miniature red/yellow/orange peppers and cherry tomatoes for my sweet "junk food" snacks - you'd be surprised how sweet they taste, especially if you've cut refined sugar from your diet and allowed your taste buds to readjust. for salads i found that sprinkling nuts and crumbled hardboiled egg makes it more…

I am also having plateau periods and agree with everyone here who counsels patience. But the other thing is portion size - since starting with MFP I have been more attentive to portion sizes so I could correctly enter my meals in the diary, and have surprised myself over and over and how off my earlier estimates have been.…

5'3" - goal is 136, but i will be thrilled to get to 165, which is overweight rather than my present status as obese - makes a world of difference for my health.

I weigh myself every morning, as it seems there can be about a 5 pound range depending on water and even simply the bulk of what was eaten the day before. If you weigh in once a week you might get a misleading reading that, e.g., shows little or no weight loss when in fact it is just a day when you had retained more water.…

ditto to much of the above and below

295 calories per 5 ounce serving as described below - personally i use far less butter and it comes out just fine. The technique of slow roasting gives a firm-bodied fish like salmon such a tender texture that it practically melts in your mouth. To test for doneness, look not for flakiness but for a change in appearance…

Ditto to all of the above replies. I'm gaining and losing the same 4 pounds for 2-3 weeks now, but am trying hard to remember that if I keep up the healthy eating, modest portions, and increased exercise I will surely beat my stubborn body into submission!

I started as a teen, quit a number of times, but quit for good in my early 50s about 4 years ago. I did it cold turkey - cutting down only made it harder because each cigarette simply restores the nicotine dependence that makes you crave the next one. In the first week, I never spent the evenings alone - I would hang with…

you absolutely *should* have a party! several of them!! i am also trying to lose exactly half my weight and you are an inspiration. congratulations. you look (and almost certainly feel) quite wonderful.

Now *this* really helped. Thanks. Am not quite 2 months into an effort to lose 136 pounds so can totally identify. Have had no real progress in last 7-10 days despite correct eating and exercise, and while I know this is both normal and expected, it is a great help to hear and see success over long term in someone with a…

There does seem to be a developing view among medical professionals that for at least one group of people, not all calories are the same. Those who have some form of insulin resistance - for example, due to metabolic syndrome or polycystic ovarian syndrome - do better with a diet that looks more like South Beach, i.e. low…

I also coughed on lisinopril and was switched to Diovan which has no bad side-effects that I can discern.

5'3" SW 272 CW 249 (met starting goal of under 250) first goal- under 225, second goal under 200, 3rd goal 169 (BMI of overweight rather than obese), 4th goal 140 (BMI healthy not overweight) and ultimate goal 136 (exactly half of where I started).
