  • You sound like my doctor. I'm not some 400lb morbidly obese person who has to drastically cut calories to get weight under control because it is for health reasons. I am 143 lb. Overweight, yes. Losing 25lb is my goal..not just a milestone in a long list of goals. There is a difference. I do think there is a healthy way of…
  • I have made an endocrinologist appointment. There is a long wait to see him. Hope that's a good sign!!
  • Completely agree with you. No followup/guidance offered other than the calorie thing. She is SURE I'm eating too much and that's the problem.
  • I don't care what number MFP founder came up with. But I do care to heed the advice of SO MANY who have had success losing weight and doing it the right way. My doctor is clueless on this topic and it seems to be her soapbox. She sounded like she's advised/counseled lots of people with this kind of advice because it just…
  • I wish I were lying and having fun. I know it sounds incredible but it is true, all of it. She said more incredible things like gastric bypass is not an option for me. I was like..who asked for it?? I'm 143lb!!!
  • She neglected to give me any kind of plan..not that she is an expert but she pretends to be! She neglected to refer me to a dietician or to ask me to go to an endocrinologist. I will do both these things -- endo first -- on my own. To answer your second point regarding slow metabolism and 1200 calories probably being too…
  • I forgot to mention I have lowered some body fat % since joining the new gym and exercising regularly. I have lost a little weight too so I am glad it is working! Just need to keep it going.
  • My carbs are usually between 120-170 and protein between 50-70 on a regular day. I know I need to increase protein and I try! Being vegetarian is hard!! I am considering adding chicken to my ovo-lacto diet. That's interesting about PCOS and metabolic link. I will get metabolic testing done for sure. I just need to find out…
  • A1C was 5.5 which is in the normal range.
  • I am considering writing a letter once I calm down enough to write a coherent sentence. I'm pretty mad and outraged. I'm also mad at myself that I let her continue on and not shut the door in her face on my way out. How in the world did I even open this conversation with her. Very upset. Clearly *I* know more about my body…
  • I did not go in looking for weightloss advice. It was given freely and in abundance ;-)
  • Oh, but it's even better when they CAN use words. Milk, mama! Other side please! Yep, I'm still nursing my toddler although down to once a day now :-)
  • The baby is eating his/her dinner too. It comes from moms boobs. Yep, that is what they're meant for. Boobs have been sexualized for way too long. It's time to taken them back and make breastfeeding the beautiful, natural, satisfying act that it is for both mom and baby without the shame.
  • The problem is not the white rice or the white flour. It is the overabundance of fast food, overindulgence on individuals part, little to no opportunity to walk anywhere. Similar to Japan, people in India (especially the south) eat rice 3 times a day. They eat it with a little clarified butter and spicy lentils. It's…
  • I am in the same boat. My DD just turned 2 and is still nursing nights, evenings and weekends. We cosleep. Pretty much any time I'm with her she wants to nurse. I've been trying to lose weight since december last yr with little luck. I exercise (though lax right now), I ran 5Ks, I eat right (mostly) but I am having the…
  • I'm ovo-lacto. For protein I eat eggs, cheese, greek yogurt, nuts, whole grains, PB, edamame, quinoa, tofu, beans, chickpeas, lentils, and there's more I'm forgetting! When all else fails, protein powder and bars.
  • I found even when I was doing it with the correct form (knee not extending beyond the toe, in 90 deg angle) it was hurting if I tried to go deep by doing advanced moves. I had to keep the squat and lunge movements at the beg level. No issues since I started this. I've done the shred twice.
  • I got fitted at the local running store. I liked Saucony Triumph 9 and Nike Pegasus. I bought Suaconys because of the high cushion. Love the feel of these. I have to do a proper run in them still but from what I can tell by the quick spin around the block they are wonderful! I had to size up 2 sizes for proper toe room!!
  • It's not easy!! However, you already know that :) I am mom to a 2 yr old and a 7 yr old and work outside the house. I've started using the gym at work during my lunch hour to get my weights workout. For cardio, I run on saturdays and try to get another run after work during the week. Doesn't always happen now that weather…
  • So should I not not pick up my children?? Not carry a can of milk in one hand and 10lb bag of rice in other?? Call hubby to lift that oil container from the top shelf because 'it might hurt my uterus'. LOL I might need to use that one to my advantage.
  • Before my first 5K I just rested up 3 days before the race i.e. no running before. I just thought I wanted to avoid getting any kind of injury or anything. I'm sure poeple who run all the time don't even consider this LOL but as a first timer I was nervous and wanted to do it 'right'.
  • I have the exact same issues!!! I'm glad to see someone else has the issue because no one else I know has it happen. I overheat SO easily...if it's over 68-70 degree my head is burning, I get a BAD headache. Wearing a hat doesn't help me at all. I can't run on the treadmill I get shin splints too :( I'm buying new running…
  • I usually snack on fruit. A small bowl of grapes after dinner, apple and peanutbutter for evening snack (between lunch and dinner), string cheese with grapes, mango after dinner is YUM. You can also have nuts and greek yogurt with your fruit..it's a great breakfast option.
  • Look closely...One picture is taken in the mirror so you're looking at 2 different sides :) I was confused by the same.
  • You did the right thing. You will find something much better! Just don't mention this job or the orientation at other interviews..you never worked here so I don't think you need to bring it up at all. Good luck!!
  • Congrats!! I did my first 5K today = 38 min some seconds. Results not posted yet. Yay go newbie runners!!!
  • On a regular basis I get - Cauliflour, broccoli, spinach, celery, onion, tomato, carrots, radish, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, red & green bell peppers, green beans, cabbage, various squash, zucchini, asparagus, corn and peas. Occasionally I get radish, mustard, kale, bitter melon, small eggplant (indian or thai variety),…
  • Walmart tends to be the cheapest among grocery stores around here. I find these prices are pretty in line with what I pay for produce *in season*. Corn on the cob - you can find them 4-6 for a dollar in season. Bananas are regularly 46 cents. Wheat bread is usually $3-4 rather than $2.50 but you CAN find it on sale. I…
  • I'm a big fan of Manjula's kitchen!! I'm Indian and still learn so much from her. Her videos are great. Try the dahi vada recipe if you haven't..it's deep fried but they come up SO well. I love that she is spreading the joy of Indian cooking among Indians and others too! On topic: I'll echo what others have already said.…
  • My favorite way to make it is cube up zucchini and yellow squash. Saute onion & tomato in olive oil until tomato softens. Add curry powder, salt and cayenne pepper. Add the squash & zucchini and cook until done. Garnish with cilantro.
