  • Feel free to add! I've got an open diary. :)
  • Welcome to MFP! :) What a good place to be.
  • Are you *really* eating under calories? When I started birth control I was hungry ALL of the time, and misjudged portions by quite a bit (and put on 10 lbs in about a month - it went back down pretty quickly once the cravings got under control). When in doubt, food-scale it. BC can also make you hold on to water weight, so…
  • Thaw a fillet & dry it off. Put a bit of olive oil in a pan on medium-high heat (adjust heat as necessary to keep it sizzling without burning). Add salmon skin-side down to the pan. Sprinkle with salt & pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the bottom is lightly browned. Flip. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned.…
  • Rogers Park, reporting for duty!
  • Heavy is whatever is heavy for you. A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to do about 3-5 sets of 5-8 reps without failing. If you can do more than 8 reps in a set, it's time to move up to a higher weight. I concur about starting strength and stronglifts. They are good about starting light to focus on form and…
  • I just like to think of it as a sentence missing its tail end when I read it. "Muscle weighs more than fat *per cubic inch*" keeps my eyes from bleeding, lol.
  • Vegan cheese is also nasty. Source: ex-vegan. If you're wanting to cut back on dairy, just cut back on dairy. Don't try to replace it. There are lots of other flavors out there that cheese can cover up. Just make it a once-a-week thing or something. Or cut it completely out for like a month, then do a test day where you…
  • Thanks, everybody! Found a gap between thunderstorms shortly after getting home and barely even got rained on (though the puddles were quite deep)! :)
  • Exactly! Before starting MFP my highest weight was 185 (college), and I typically hovered around 175. Lost about 7 pounds last summer because I was teaching kids sailing and was swimming/hauling children around all the time. Decided I like that and joined MFP. Have since lost about 20 lbs, and am capable of doing things I…
  • Oh hey that's what I had for breakfast! Eggs: nutritious and delicious.

  • Not sure for the clean eating (that one seems to have quite the wide range of definitions!) But as for processed food, I think that if it's not in its original recognizable form, it counts as processed. That being said, I would vote that things like brown rice and steel cut oats, frozen vegetables and cuts of meat (without…
  • I carry pepper spray in my hand. I've got dog leashes to carry anyway and it's not very heavy. Pocketknife clipped to the inside of my sports bra. If you run with a water belt, lots of those have zippered pockets for just that purpose! And for snacks.
  • Because you keep buying it? Step one: Get a couple of cookbooks (I love "How to Cook Everything: The Basics." It's simple, and shows you how to experiment once you master the basic recipes.) Step two: Make a weekly meal plan with recipes from the cookbook, including packed lunches that avoid the processed stuff (salads and…
  • More time. And unless you have an open diary, no one can really evaluate your food choices to see possible reasons. Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day? Did you go to the bathroom or drink water before your weigh-in? Fair amount of sodium the night before? TOM? There are lots of reasons you wouldn't lose weight…
  • Raise your eyebrow back. Also do an actual program, don't just do a few random exercises with the free weights - Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5 are both great beginner programs that should give you great strength gains pretty quickly because they teach form first and then add more weight (preventing injury), and…
  • Ok. You want to lose weight. You also probably want to become fit. Different goals entirely, although they can be achieved at the same time. Why is it always strength VS. cardio? Strength AND cardio. Strength builds muscle, which in turn burns more calories at rest, lowers blood pressure, and increases your ability to open…
  • Just thought this video should be here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w9eoZtnJSA
  • Regular white potatoes should be avoided for the most part (very starchy, fairly high glycemic index), but sweet potatoes are totally great in moderation! Also, jerky is just dried meat...as long as you're not bathing it in sugar sauce during the curing process (like so much of the store bought stuff is), eat up! This is a…
  • Don't eat them? Onions are cheap and abundant, thus their use in lots of food. Peppers pack a flavorful punch, and are also fairly easy to access for many areas of the world. If it's the flavor, can't help ya. No subs there. Try experimenting with other herbs and spices! Because cooking is just science for hungry people.
  • Probably water weight, if you're not upping your food intake. Aunt Irma only visits about once every 3 months for me (I heart my bc), and it is *always* accompanied by a few random pounds that get shed the week after with no changes in my routine.
  • A huge yay for me this week - for 2 days in a row (I'm doing the runner's world run streak thing alongside my normal runs), I have run a 7:25 or less mile! I have always been slow, and could hardly run a mile even in high school when I was pretty fit. Not today, though!
  • Sounds like primal/paleo/keto choices are for you! Seriously, there's no need to eat grains if you don't like them. Just don't eat wonderbread instead, lol. I do keto for a couple weeks at a time when I'm cutting sometimes, and it's amazing to eat bacon and eggs and steak and as many veggies I can stuff my face with and…
  • YOU ARE DOING GREAT! AS LONG AS YOU DON'T START AN EXERCISE PROGRAM YOU SEEM TO BE AT A GOOD LEVEL OF CALORIES! IF YOU DO START ADDING IN EXERCISE, TRY TO NET AT LEAST 1200! GOOD JOB ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS! Sorry, couldn't resist yelling just a bit. :p
  • I weigh about 145 now, and when I weighed that in high school it seemed too thin. Now it doesn't! I also have more muscle mass though. Hoping for an end result of about 135-ish, but I'll be happier if I can get my body fat % down around 20%, even if that means weighing more but having more muscle.
  • Ain't nobody's business if you do!
  • Lol. Came here to say "there's no such thing!" Nevermind. Carry on.
  • Ain't nothing boring about my homemade barbecue chicken with smashed rosemary-roasted baby red potatoes and the best damn green beans you've ever eaten (blanched, fried in evoo with salt and almond slices and scallions). Or Mexican fried rice with grilled fish tacos & black bean/corn salsa or mango salsa! Or baked black…
  • I don't cut it completely out anymore (did for a while, discovered a mild intolerance for wheat, but nothing severe), and it makes a big difference for me not having it. TMI time: When I ate a lot of bread & wheat I was always constipated (and I ate whole grains, not the nasty white stuff). Now that it's not a daily thing…
