  • Do you think it could it be a permanent diet if you absolutely had to? My appendix ruptured last year and I lost half my colon and a big part of my small intestine (ileum). It's been suggested that I try a low FODMAP diet before resorting to a risky intestinal transplant, but the "plan" they gave me is confusing and I am…
  • Ignore that crap and keep your eye on your goal. He's just providing you a soft place to land in case you don't meet your goal... He'll be perfectly happy if you do.
  • I followed the path you're contemplating and wish I hadn't. I should have started lifting last year, but I waited until I lost better than 100 lbs. Lifting make a huge difference! Like everyone said, don't worry about the scale so much... I haven't lost much more than a few pounds in months but I've gone from 3X to 2X…
  • I do the same thing and I've done it all along. I've been rather successful in spite of my foolishness, but how much farther along would I have been if I just knocked it offf? Last week I was cutting up an onion, knowing full well that I should not eat onions due to the fact that they spike my blood glucose. I accidentally…
  • I do an 8 minute warm-up on a stationary bike first, then lift. If it's leg day it's over at that point... I am a wobbly trembling mess afterwards.
  • Decide exactly what you wish to achieve through weight training first. This is critical information for people to know before they offer you exercise advice.
  • Ohhhh yeah. I don't have a handle on it at all. It could be 48 or 72 hours for me, and that sometimes has me with two different muscle groups sore at the same time. Everything above my waist is wrecked right now, and I still have slight residual soreness in my legs from Monday.
  • I would challenge them to combat! No I really wouldn't... I would just find something else to do until they were done snuggling and moved on. If you feel the gym is not able to provide the services that they've outlined in your contract start complaining in writing. Make sure your complaints are specific and detailed and…
  • They just opened one near me and my cousin joined and told me I should check it out. It seems too uptight for me, and it feels more like a store than a gym. I just know that should they ever dare to blow that dumb lunk horn at someone (especially me) that I would rage quit in a second. I think I will stick to the dark gym…
  • Things could turn around though... You may be the motivator now, but she may pick you up when you're not feeling it. It's worth a shot, plus It's better than no workout buddy at all. I've been flying solo for a few weeks and it's not good. Not just with escape plans for when your muscles fail and you need out from under…
  • Well, it takes me 40 minutes so it would certainly be enough to impress me. LOL
  • Don't focus on that number. Just stick to your way of eating and let the progress happen. 30 pounds in 4 months is a high weekly average, and nothing to be discouraged over. If you maintain that same rate for 52 weeks, you'll blow right by your goal.
  • I like to think that I forgave my ex, but I am not certain. I harbor no ill-will towards her, but I know who she is and what she's made of, now. I have zero respect for her, and could never ever trust her again. Does this count as "forgiveness" or just being done with a situation?
  • I've been losing at the same rate with or without exercise. Walking has always been my go to exercise as well... No matter how sore, or beat up I am I can always go for a walk. While it doesn't seem to really have a dramatic impact on my weight loss, the other benefits that I get from exercise, make it as equally important…
  • This is all the fault of the muscle shirt!
  • 2010 Chevy Traverse. What ever made me buy that fish head in the first place, escapes me. It was a complete POS though... It was in the shop so much I never really felt like I took delivery of the thing. It was a hunk of monkey *kitten*!
  • Yeah, I was way up...7 pounds at one point. But much to the chagrin of my flu shot, I got the H1N1 and quickly dropped 22 pounds over about a 10 day period. Now that I am on the mend and full re-hydrated I am one pound down from my pre-holiday weight.
  • I've used heavy whipping cream in my coffee in the past; that's pretty much just unmolested butter. I guess it all depends on what you're trying to do. It's a quick way to pick up an extra hundred calories in the morning.
  • I have not experienced a lot of actual mistreatment over my weight, but I have noticed that more people want to include me in things now that I've lost weight. It doesn't really strike me as any sort of bias though, I think that they are genuinely interested in the transformation.
  • I notice this as well. I wasn't sure if it was the weight loss or if I am just not adjusted to the colder temps yet.
  • Congratulations on all your success OP, and thanks for creating a great thread. I've learned a lot from this myself, as this is something that I've realized is sort of a problem lately. Not just for the fact that my belly looks like a chewed piece of bubble gum, but all the flappin' around I do when I run. It's to the…
  • Great idea; I'll bring the chips! I considered that sort of support group early on, but once I started out on my own I found the urge to overeat went away pretty quickly. Plus I rely on this forum for it's expert advice. What could go wrong? :)
  • My diary will enhance the weight loss of many clean eaters - through vomiting. I really should be ashamed of myself and lock that thing up before it kills again, but I've lost a hell of a lot of weight.
  • I wish I would have found this information 9 months ago! I guess I will have to go gorge myself to put 120 pounds back on and do it right this time. I have a squishy layer; It flaps around so much that it sounds like I am getting a round of applause when I run. Now I know that I have to stop running, and start lifting…
  • This strikes a raw nerve with me. I got a similar letter sent home from pre-school with my youngest son. He is 4 years-old, 3'9 inches tall and weighs 53 pounds. They calculated his BMI at 29. The letter was "coaching" my wife and I how to feed him so that he doesn't get fatter and less healthy. My wife, quietly went to…
  • Exactly the opposite for me. I can't say for sure that it was all carbohydrate in general or just a particular source though. Either way I was a hateful person when I was eating them, and my mood totally changed when I stopped. I've indulged in some carbs over the past few weeks, and my mean streak started to show again.
  • I lost a bunch of weight, super fast. I heard the loud chorus of how I was going to: 1) Lose Muscle Mass - Didn't 2) Go Bald - Still Hairy 3) Destroy my brain - Did that years ago 4) Stall my metabolism - Nope 5) Kill my gall bladder - Still have that too. On the flip side, while I did drop a 100 pounds last summer, I…
  • Don't sweat it. 6 is fine, as what you're looking for is the downward trend. It's a meaningful test, but you have to remember that is an average, that is relying on an average. When you compare numbers between 3 months you'll have a higher error rate than comparing the numbers across a year.
  • I went through the same thing, I was just a mess. Like everyone else said, just run slow. I was running at the same 3.5 miles per hour I was walking at, early on. After a while I realized that my stride was getting longer and I picked up more speed along with endurance.
  • I get congested whenever I eat wheat so I only eat it occasionally. It's not a gluten thing, because I can eat Rye bread without a problem. I can't say it really harms me though, and I intend to eat a few slices of pizza tonight and blow my nose a lot tomorrow.
