I started losing weight in my 50's. Do it now! I regret I didn't meet this site sooner!

Alarae21, that dress is beautiful and you look wonderful in it!

I think maintenance is more difficult than losing weight because at least when you are losing, there are multiple rewards along the way (e.g. seeing the scale go down, buying new clothes, etc..). I got to maintenance once, then quit logging and exercising as much and gained more than half my weight back. I still love to…

It takes a while for others to notice. Keep at it. You are doing great!

Just ate there today. It was the majority of my calories. The worse thing was the large volume of salt!
-
You are successful! In 2-3 more months, you may be 30# down. Anything down is better than where you started.
-
Yes, I can see the difference! Even though you may not have lost as much weight as you wanted, 11 pounds is still better than the initial weight.

Great job!

I like the "small incremental changes" theory. This is how I started a few years ago when I lost weight, and that is what I am doing now. It is probably personal preference, both work, but small changes are easier for me to commit to.

I love the before and after pictures! This reinforces that it can be done! Proud of you!

Hi! I'm 57. I joined MFP a few years ago and slowly lost 40 pounds. I do believe maintenance is harder than losing, as there are less rewards. I got tired of logging and gained 20 pounds. I'm holding at that and starting to log again as I think that is the key to success for me. Good luck. Actually I found that it was…

You've done a great job! I think the thing this website has taught me is that I don't have to suffer with dieting, start with smaller modifications and lose weight slower. It's easier to stick to.

I agree with "rude" and "presumptuous"

I work as a nurse. I've seen some complications from Gastric Bypass Surgery that I wouldn't wish on my enemies. Also the only way to keep the weight off is diet modification for the rest of your life. If you can do that, you will lose weight without surgery! A family member had the surgery and lost about 200#, but went…

All the before and after pictures are awesome. Every one of you blew me away! That is one thing I now regret I didn't do. Good job MFP'ers!
-
Definitely a difference in those pictures. You are doing well!
-
The difference in your 2 pictures is very noticeable! Take it easy enough so you can maintain the loss. You are on your way!
-
Sounds like you are doing great! You'll be in maintenance before you know it. I don't think I lost that much my first month, but maintaining or losing is always better than gaining. Good luck. This does work!

Your joints will thank you for every pound you lose. My knees have. You are doing good!

Absolutely right, Micbou1!

I did not log for 9 days over Christmas and New Years. I ate more, ate treats and cookies and had drinks. Unexplainably I only gained 1 pound. Now I wished I would have tracked so I'd know exactly how many calories I did consume. I always get more stressed a Christmas time between busy work schedule, shopping, cooking, and…

Good job! What a good attitude and what a pretty face!
-
WOW! Nice job! It's amazing what we can do when we set our minds to it.
-
Weightlossdiva1219--- You have done a wonderful job! I agree that you are a beautiful girl at whichever weight you are, although the new weight is probably healthier. A pretty face is still a pretty face!
-
Ressie-- Plateau is better than gaining weight. You've done a great job so far. I know you will shake it up and go down weight again. Good luck!
-
WOW. You all ROCK! I do walking with short bursts of jogging. The problem is, I don't do it often enough. My goal is to increase frequency. You all put me to shame!
-
I eat over my goal frequently. It does slow down the weight loss. Try to stay under your TEDEE for sure. It depends on how quick you want to lose the weight. YOU are in control!
-
All good reasons to lose some weight. Take it slow and you are apt to stick with it. Read the forums and you'll get a lot of info-you'll have to decide which is good info for you to use. Keep logging and be honest with yourself. Good luck and I know you will get there!

My mom's friend once asked me(unsolicited), "are you gaining weight?" I already knew I was overweight, and NO, it did not spur me to lose weight at that time. It just confirmed to me that she was a b*tch.
