All. The. Time. I'm closer to 5'7", I'm 131lbs, which is a healthy weight for my age, but it's ALL around my middle and makes me feel uncomfortable. I'm much more comfortable (and can wear whatever I want!) at the very bottom of what's considered my healthy weight range (though I plan to build back up with weight training…

You're priceless, and possibly 7 years old. :p

Where oh where is the common sense here? Silly me for thinking that it would be obvious to all that when one is talking about bad white carbs, they are referring to sugar, flour, refined stuff, maybe potatoes (though I think they are fine for you if plain baked). And who would think that brown sugar is good for you because…

I was referring to some above statements that eliminating white foods would include caultiflower, eggs, dairy....which is silly thinking. Of course cauliflower isn't included, it's a cruciferous vegetable and is awesome for you.

This is a good point, but for those of us who eat for optimal health and stick to only nutrient dense foods, the following insight is very interesting: Source: Metabolic Rate: the slower the better

I've started adding a little bit of turmeric, cinnamon, and ground ginger to my morning green smoothie. It gives it a little kick and it feels good knowing my breakfast is now even healthier than ever! Great thread by the way!

Good for you for giving up what's basically junk food, especially the "white" stuff (and common sense prevails here that it doesn't include white vegetables etc., LOL!). I don't commonly eat such foods and although there's always that dreaded "detox headache" from quitting those foods if I've let them sneak back in, it's…

For my age, height (5'7"), and lifestyle (and frame for that matter), maintenance is a little over 1500, so I eat less than 1200 calories. I eat a very healthy nutrient dense diet though, so I manage just fine with staying satisfied and content because I can eat a high volume of food due to it's natural tendency to be…

Exactly! :)

I eat less than 1200 most of the time and get all the protein, fat, carbs, and nutrients I need because I eat only whole natural foods and meals made in my kitchen. I actually eat a lot, because most of it is naturally low calories (but packs a punch nutrient-wise). Oh and I love my treats, but again, they are natural and…

Yup. Fruit that hasn't been separated from it's fiber is better for you than any refined sugar, including 100% fruit juices.

Awesome points!! More info on how great beans are for weight loss, among other things: Beans: the ideal carbohydrate

Lentil and bean soups with some sort of grain (quinoa, wild rice, etc. etc.), plus adding say a 1/4 cup of ground almonds adds some calories and makes it nice and creamy. A bean heavy chili with lots of veggies and slices of avocado and a "faux parmesean" sprinkled on top (ground almonds, nutritional yeast flakes, a bit of…

Lentils, how I love thee! I love red lentil soup, curried red lentil soup, even plain cooked red lentils with a little bit of salt screams comfort food to me. This recipe here is an all time favourite (I always make a double batch): Sweet Potato Dal

This is the correct answer.

Load up on non-starchy veggies! Very low calorie, high fiber, and great for filling you up.
-
I'm not perfect and I prefer to classify myself as plant-based, but I'm definitely a 98% vegan girl, so feel free to add me! I keep an open diary too.

Yup, I know exactly what you're talking about! My current strategy is, when I am able to, I delay my supper until around 7pm or so, and I eat lighter (but very healthy) during the day. That way I still have a good amount of calories left, but I spend my nighttime calories on healthy choices. That way I feel like I'm still…

My calories for maintenance is around 1500, so for me to lose 1lb per week, I need a daily goal of 1000 calories. I eat a little more than this, but burn that off (and more) through exercise. I eat a highly nutritious diet, getting enough fat, protein, carbs, fiber, and nutrients etc. I never finish a meal wishing I could…

I pretty much ALWAYS have a big pot of a bean or lentil soup in the fridge, and the calorie count on a cup is relatively low in calories, especially when I water-saute the veggies that will be in the soup. Add all kinds of favourite spices and herbs, and yum!! <3 Making a red lentil soup right now. ;) Oh and I adore black…

You can add me too, it makes such a huge difference in motivation when we're supporting each other!

I personally have chosen to kick all refined sugars out of my life because for me it triggers craving and binges. Instead I make treats that are only sweetened with natural whole foods (like chocolate banana "ice cream"). For some reason these kinds of natural desserts don't result in overeating, and I'm thinking the…

Of course!

Yes, because he's very witty!

I'm down to my last 13-14lbs too, I'll add you!

Make lots of friends, stay connected, have an open diary, be honest, we are all imperfect people...do all of this and I think you'll find it immensely helpful and motivational. :D The best of success to you!! :)

@JacquiH73 it is my understanding that Dr. Fuhrman's reasons for no salt is that it's bad for your kidneys, and he recommends no more than 200mg of ADDED salt a day, and that we only really need 500mg per day in total. Many other health sources give that same number. Now for me, knowing all that, I still choose to use a…

Agreed. I used to use it, loved adding some to my green smoothies, but could not in a million years justify the cost, even with my (former) Beachbody coach discount. It's not necessary for health or weight loss. It's not a magical elixir.
-
I agree totally!! I'm doing the same thing this round, and it does make a huge difference. You feel like you're not doing it alone, and it also helps to make your diary public (but be 100% honest), because basically we all make the same slip ups, and it's nice to see that no one is perfect and it gives you permission to be…

I don't have as many pounds to lose, but I figure the more of us that connect and support each other, the better!
