Well I've been ill for the past three days - fever, cough, shivers, achy muscles the lot! But I'm much better now :-) Lovely to see that this thread is still as wonderfully open and focusing on the positive…

My baby steps for the next couple of weeks are: turn down food I'm not bothered about - chocolate, cookies, cakes...why eat stuff I'm not really into? BUT enjoy what i do like - have some cheese and nuts and crisps, enjoy the taste but be mindful to not stuff myself for the sake of it enjoy how i look and feel atm sit down…

Ahhh people lol - now i must say I had a dream pregnancy - no sickness no unusual cravings (well apart from having porridge with home made apple sauce, which i have not had since or before, literally every morning). I think the trick is not to use it as an excuse to simply over-eat - there are guide lines for how may…

I really thought i want one - bought one, hardly used it - find it awkward and difficult to clean. ... will pas it on as soon as someone mentions they want one :-)

Wow Sunny what a great start! I love that you chose to turn something so sad as the loss of your mum into something so positive for you! You are definitely doing the right thing. I was quite fit and in good shape when i fell pregnant. This in turn led to me having a really active pregnancy with lots of swimming and…

Interesting what you all say about the scale - that's one thing i stay quite cool about - weigh daily stick it on an app look at the trend and forget about it -hoping to go weekly though once I'm maintaining isn't it strange? - i was with my ex who i know loved and fancied with me for 18 years but he was just not able to…

I'm form Germany, Bavaria, originally but have been residing in the UK since '92. i.e. I've been here for longer now than Germany, call both places home :-)

Oh yes sticking around is one of my goals for next year :-) yes you do have a long road but with your great attitude you'll do just fine! Well done on drawing a line under your day - i'm never sure what to think about the five week prediction that comes with it - it's too dependent on that day to have any real relevance…

What a wonderful post OP and how great to see it's had a positive response Well I haven't got much to lose but for the past three years I've come back every winter to lose the same 15ish lb! Ridiculous! So this time my intention is to stick around and make sure those 15 stay off. I have a very positive outlook on life. My…

Like so many others said - those who are into fitness will think 'good on him - he's doing something about it' those who aren't will wish they'd have the courage to start My motto is - I'm lapping all those sat on the couch (had to give up running due to a bad knee but i think this with any exercise i do)
-
@cloggsy71 you're right about the Swiss and their riffles - they have conscription still and anyone who has served retains their weapon - till about ten years ago they had a pack amo as well that thread really did make for interesting reading - I'm pleased my cycling routes are in the UK or in Germany on holiday :-)
-
I think if you are not doing it for yourself you will very soon lose motivation. Other may help or hinder but if you OWN it it makes you accountable only to yourself for both the wins and the stumbles along the way.

what an amazing and positive way to approach what can only be described every parent's worst nightmare. I wish you well and hope your daughter will one day see what you have done and realise she can be as strong as you!

The gym has an obligation to show you how to work the machines! But as they seem to be a bit lax .. check out bodyuilding.com they have great little vids on how to use most machines and free weights. Enjoy

Wellbeing Officer (no kidding that's my job title)

OP - i was having the same thoughts and set a goal for the end of April (a 135km/80m ride on closed roads) partly as a reason to train and partly as reward for training :-) that get's me to May when even we in the UK get to see the sun sometimes and I'm vain enough to keep it up for the bikini season :-)
