  • I did that plan too, and attended meetings. The slider made it easy to figure out foods at the grocery store. I liked the little weekly booklets - I'd write the date and my gain/loss on the front cover and keep them, so if I was struggling I could go back to a week that had been successful and see what I had done. I lost…
  • If you're using a HRM, your HR may just register as lower in the cold than it does when you're hot. Or it may just not work as well in the cold.
  • My former personal trainer sent me the link this morning, so I just registered. I also signed up for the virtual race through Paris.
  • Another vote for unsweetened vanilla almond milk for my cereal. I used to drink soy but now try to minimize how much soy I take in. The only time I drink chocolate milk is after a workout as a recovery drink and for that I like the Fairlife. It doesn't bother me how sweet it is.
  • I'm agreeing with the others that if you're not finishing, you're going too fast. There's a C25K group here and I'd recommend you go join it. I got a lot of great support and advice when I did it, and it helped to read the comments of other people who were on the same week as me or just ahead of me. When I did C25K my diet…
  • I have it and wear it most of the time. At least for me, the HRM is erratic when I workout - anything over a HR of 130 and it becomes less reliable. I'll use it for casual walks or yoga, but for anything more intense than that I use my Garmin with a chest strap HRM.
  • I was going to say to swap the chips for veggies (carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, etc.). I like to have some crunch with my sandwich, and the veggies give me more nutritional benefit, are more filling, and have fewer calories than chips.
  • I will go for a short run fasted, but typically try to take in calories shortly after. For a longer run I take in calories before (like a gel), during and some kind of recovery drink after with a mix of protein & carbs. I'm training for a half marathon in June and will be doing at least my long runs in the morning, so this…
  • I recently tested out 16:8 Intermittent Fasting, eating from noon to 8:00 pm. My body liked it well enough (I don't like solid food in the morning anyway) but I was concerned about doing strength training or cardio in the morning and then not being able to eat for several hours. How important is it to eat after working out?
  • You're going to get a lot of advice based on people's personal preferences. Just because one person prefers low carb, that's not necessarily the best answer for you. Weight loss is anything but one-size-fits-all. Here are some good threads for you to read:…
  • Hey all. It's been a rough week. Hope you're all doing well.
  • Glad you're feeling better Marla! Sorry to hear things are turbulent with your husband though. A day at the beach sounds nice. How much longer are you traveling? I had a fun workout with Jason last night. After taking a couple days off to get some things done (and not have to be around people) I was feeling way less moody…
  • Your day yesterday sounds awesome, Marla! I took the last couple of days off from work. I'm calling them mental health days. They were good, but I'm still feeling pretty edgy. I have a massage scheduled this weekend but otherwise no definite plans, so I'm happy about that.
  • I'm more of the early "I'm awake but please don't talk to me" type than an early chirpy person. Hope your flight goes smoothly!
  • Val, I completely agree with you about running drills. I know they're important, but I still feel silly doing them. Jason throws them into my workouts, especially when I'm in training. I've come to view them as a necessary evil. I went to ZMix after work last night. During the hip stuff I could feel how tight my hips were,…
  • Good luck with the therapy appointment tomorrow! The trips to the dumpster sound awesome - last summer when I purged so much stuff it was an awesome feeling. It's supposed to rain for the next few days but just started now (about 9:30 am) so I got up early this morning to get in my run. Generally speaking my runs go better…
  • Excellent job with the race Val considering the obstacles with transition closing so early. But why weren't you able to grab fuels before the bike portion of the race? Happy you didn't end up with a migraine! Sherry hope you can get things figured out with a trainer that works for your schedule. My trainer starts later in…
  • Marla I was thinking of you with the smoke. It did clear up yesterday. Sounds like chaos at your house! I'm sure it felt nice to get your house back after they all left. Val how did the duathlon go? Jason had me do a 5k run / 20 mile bike / 5k run in training once & it kicked my rear. Never done it in a race though. My run…
  • A line of thunderstorms came through yesterday late afternoon cooling things off, but it also brought in smoke from the wildfires in Canada. It was so thick they were posting online that people didn't need to call to report a fire because it wasn't here, and to close windows. Still under an air quality advisory today but…
  • I have to run a dehumidifier in my basement all summer. The main floor is okay but the basement always gets damp. I was just thinking last night it's probably about time to get it going. Normal high temps here this time of year are in the 60s. Right now it's 93. Blech.
  • I had a fun workout with Jason last night. He had me to do some general warm-up stuff (squats without weight, some walking dynamic stretches, inverted flys without weights, etc.), then for 30 minutes I repeated a circuit of 6 exercises as many times as I could, doing 10 reps of each - single arm shoulder press while…
  • Hi. Remember me? I'm sorry I've been so bad about coming here. I'm almost never on my computer at home, it's a pain on the phone, and half the time when I'm at work even when I have time I forget to come in here. I'm hanging in there. My weight is ridiculous high and now none of my clothes fit. I've had so many issues with…
  • In the last several months of being an OKC member, I spent a lot of time perusing profiles and deciding what was most important to me. I decided that sense of humor was most important, and you have demonstrated that you have plenty of that. So you really check all the right boxes with me. Well...apparently that wasn't what…
  • I'm so far behind on what's going on with everyone. I've been making it to my newsfeed but haven't been making it to the group. Day 6 of my latest round of being sick, after not really feeling good since the beginning of February, so I finally went to the doctor this morning. My primary doctor is out this week but the…
  • I still exist. Sorry I've been absent. Miss you guys.
  • My sinuses and I are not getting along, but according to TimeHop this time of year I always have issues with sinuses. I'm tired and cranky and out of sorts. Nothing specific - just end of week tiredness. My trainer is back from vacation and I saw him last night, which was good. My first triathlon (an indoor tri) is a week…
  • One of these months I am going to nail my goals.
  • Marla I've heard of those sites. Let me know how you like it. It definitely sounds like a motivator! I think I would need to pick the charity I don't like too because it would be too easy to brush it off thinking "at least the money is going to a good cause." Val just reading about cleaning all that puke makes me feel…
  • Fun photo Marla! I wore green socks yesterday and that's all I can claim for celebrating St. Patrick's Day. My cold is just about gone - more than 2 weeks after it started. I accept snow in March (and April and sometimes May) because I really don't like to be hot, and the summers here are glorious. I can always put more…
  • Been snowing all day. I'm tired & generally out of sorts. Skipped my ZMix class because of the weather - just wanted to get home. Doing some laundry & trying to get a few things done. Hope everyone is doing well.
