I used mine to track sleep for several weeks. It does raise your level of awareness on your sleep patterns. It is a minor hassle to move the Fitbit from the belt clip to the wrist strap. The novelty of tracking my sleep has worn off, so now I use it mainly to track activity. My whole family has their own Fitbit so we enjoy…

You should never eat below your BMR. If you have started strength training, your body needs the calories (specifically protein) to build muscle. Eat correctly, exercise, and trust that your body is making changes the right way. It will happen!

Hubby won't eat kale. I will have to try this out and see if I can change that. Thanks.

I think you are right on track. You have done your research. It is scary to increase calories. I was at a similar point last February when I realized that I was not eating enough. I increased my calories from 1200 to 1500, and then again to 1650 ( even though the online calculators indicated I should be at 1800... That was…

You Rock!!! You have a great outlook. Thanks for sharing! :flowerforyou:

You might also try aqua exercise. It is easier on your joints and a good place to start increasing your over-all fitness. Also, are you sure that you are not eating below your BMR?

Hooray for the everyday people! Me too! Every morning first thing. But I only log my weight on Sundays.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Check out Polar.com. They have many models at various price points.

You are probably losing inches in places other than where you are measuring (assuming you are measuring waist and hips). People may be noticing the weight you have in your thighs, arms, back, etc. Just keep up the good work and the inches and pounds will keep coming off!

You sound like me! I get very frustrated with the lack of movement on the scale. About three weeks ago I started resistance training (which is good) and within a week, my weight was up two pounds! For a Type-A person who admittedly gets too much satisfaction from seeing the numbers drop on the scale, I was needless to say…

Loved the article and absolutely agree with the quote above. There are many roads when climbing the mountain...kudos to all who are climbing!

Good luck! Sounds like you are ready. I wish you the best.

Hi Kandy. Good for you on taking your life back! My two kids just went off to college this past August. My husband and I decided to combat "empty nest" syndrome, by getting busy changing our diet and fitness level. It has been a wonderful time with lots of success. Feel free to add me as a friend.

Yay to you and your wife! My husband and I have been doing MFP and YMCA together for the past couple of months. It is so much easier to change your lifestyle when everybody is working together! Have you joined ActivTrax at the Y? It is free with your Y membership. It makes it easy to add resistance training to your…

I am reading a book called, The New Rules of Lifting for Women. It is a book on adding resistance training (weight lifting) to your workouts. I found a couple of interesting passages that I want to share with you. This is in reference to how many calories we should be eating in a day. (I am still working on wrapping my…

I love this idea. The mind is so powerful, and retraining the way you think is an important step in being successful.

Have you ever tried "Beanitos" chips. They are made with pinto beans and flax. High fiber, corn ree, gluten free, and 4g of protein. I like the cheddar cheese flavored ones best. Can't wait to try them with broccomole!

I am almost finished reading the "Fat 2 Fit" book (written by the guys who host the website where you can calculate your BMR. If you haven't calculated your BMR yet, I suggest you go to http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/ and do so.) One of the main points made in the book is how important it is to eat enough calories. You…

I like the FIRM workouts. They mix cardio with resistance training.

Some HRM can be used in water and some can't. If you look on the back of your Polar watch, it will have a water resistance rating.
