  • I run because I can and a year ago I didn’t think I ever could.
  • Today breakfast was yogurt with strawberries, apple, pineapple, mandarins and grapes. Lunch was vegetable skewers on the BBQ with peppers, red onion and tomatoes. Dinner was chicken and hummus with celery, more peppers, carrots and cucumber. So far today...11! This is not typical for me though! Just on holiday from work…
  • I’ve just finished my first 5k...if you’d told me that a couple of months ago I would never have believed you! I’m 56lb heavier than I’d like to be but I built up really gradually. I did 5k in 35 minutes this week and was so proud of myself because I never thought I’d get here. But I did! And now I love it and look forward…
  • I’d suggest if possible take two readings (AM and PM) for 7 days and take it to your doctor. May mean purchasing a BP machine at home but it will give the doctor much more info to work on than individual readings. Try to do these at rest, after a 5 minute sit down to get a true reading.
  • I’d say they gave you the wrong size stockings then. I work in a leg ulcer clinic and measure people for hosiery everyday and they definitely shouldn’t be doing that to you! Some people don’t fit into the regular size bands (being tall with larger legs, short with skinny legs etc all issues for bog standard sizing) and…
  • Sorry if my post offended you or came across as judgemental. It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job and perhaps I didn't write clearly enough. The child I referred to hasn't been offered healthier options, which is more the point I should have made. I'm not even sure if she does genuinely dislike these things because…
  • Also, I don't know where you are in the world (guessing not the UK as you can't get surgery that easily here!) but wearing compression hosiery/stockings can help to reduce the size of them. They assist with venous return by applying graduated compression on the leg creating resistance for the calf muscle (which in essence…

  • I’m finding the same issue in the UK. A child in our family is only fed chicken nuggets, fish fingers, chips and ketchup from what I can see! Have never seen her eat a vegetable. And she is incredibly fussy with food. Trouble is, given the choice her mum will only eat those foods also! If they aren’t introduced to…
  • Done all three today though only 10 push ups.
  • Done. Skipped burpees as well as I have a damaged wrist. Going for a run straight after for a bit of extra boost to start the month!
  • Great challenge! Will be very helpful! I always lose weight fairly slowly so aiming for 17lb which is fairly ambitious for me but going to try. I have signed up for a 5k race in July so will be training and building up for that so leaning up would be useful as well! STARTING WEIGHT AND DATE WITH MFP (MY FITNESS PAL):…
  • Propane Nightmares by Pendulum! Keeps me going! That or the soundtrack from Greatest Showman, Camila Cabellos album or Red Hot Chilli Peppers....my musical tastes are fairly eclectic!
  • Never used a fancy watch or anything in fact. I just count and remember!
  • Improve my swimming by April so I can go Scuba diving, snorkelling and enjoy other water sports on holiday. Complete the C25K programme to be able to compete in a 5k race in March for work. Begin regular strength training on my own in addition to a class (have shied away from doing this personally) Lose 28 pounds to get me…
  • I’ve just started Body Pump about two months ago. I really enjoy the atmosphere of the class and for someone who was afraid and confused by the weights section of the gym before, I now have gained confidence in that area and have even started writing workouts for me and a friend. It has helped me learn some different moves…
  • Thanks for advice. I work in nutritional support as part of my role so I'm happy with the food side of things (i.e I know what I should do...now just have to do it!). I'm not a complete beginner to exercising. Have always done 1-2 sessions a week of moderate cardio and now am looking to incorporate strength training and a…
  • It annoys me that no one seems to sell single serve portions. Sometimes I grab a smoothie while I’m out and I don’t want to try and guess at half of it and then keep it open without a fridge for the rest of the day.
  • Forget the food....I wish I could get myself to Canada!
  • Oh no! I apologise to all the thirsty camels! I should’ve google checked!
  • Am I the only one who finds it happy ironic that a discussion about only drinking water features camels? Man those guys load up on like 50 litres (yes I totally made that number up but it is a lot!) of water!
  • Don’t you love getting expert advice from patients? Had a extremely overweight gentleman yesterday who INSISTED he had put on 6 pounds since I last saw him because he has been going to the gym once a week to use the treadmill for half an hour....so must have gained 6 pounds of muscle (in three weeks) from his brisk walking!
  • Sorry to report....did the Norovirus cleanse for a couple of days but have regained all the weight. Tried, tested and failed. Next please?!
  • And dragons in Wales! And giants in Northern Ireland!
  • Just an idea....I often see patients who are in wheelchairs and wish to do some activity. There are sitting workouts available online. One of my favourites is sitting boxing, it can really get your heart rate going and activate your upper body muscles. I absolutely agree with the sentiments above endorsing the rest your…

  • Thanks for the heads up! I’ll be at goal weight in a few weeks now! Also TMI I know....but the lovely stomach bug my darling patients have passed onto me also is an effective, if not recommended, detox! 3lb down in just a few days.
  • I used to be a member and rejoined multiple times. I had several concerns....firstly if the program you’re selling me is such a winning formula then how come we’ve had so many renamed, revamped versions promising to be the best one yet! Secondly I detested going to a meeting that weekly seemed to revolve around a…
  • Ah I've had such a laugh reading through this thread! I work in healthcare and a large amount of my job is diet and exercise advice to healthy people and those with long term chronic health problems. And some of the ideas/excuses I get! Last week topped it all....someone who was utterly convinced the 30+ units of alcohol,…
  • The only thing unhealthy about coffee is perhaps my attitude towards it! Give me the coffee and everything will be ok!
  • Just a quick note regarding what the OP said about living in the U.K...... we kinda don’t choose who we see medically. You can wait two weeks to get an appointment with your general practitioner. IF they chose to refer you to the orthopaedic department you may be seen by a orthopaedic consultant in anything from 12 weeks -…
