  • Just joined this group and it was the first post I came across. Thanks for the good advice, as I am experiencing Achilles tenderness as well! I plan to do an epsom soak after my runs and can definitely vouch for the extra static stretching after runs, it seems to be helping. I hadn't thought about the risers in regular…
  • This is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this on the news last night...
  • I don't think this is a bad thing. Thanks to technology, and sites like MFP, information about dietary concerns, etc is readily available to everyone and this is just another (positive) example of how technology is making kids smarter and helping people live longer, healthier, more productive lives. My three year old has…
  • Eh....apparently I misspoke...so I'm also a Capitals fan...which is news to me. Married life should be separate from sports life. That's all I'm saying about that.
  • Let's go Rangers!
  • My first mini goal for having saved 250 cals at the end of every day for 10 days, is to go to a hockey game and enjoy a nice cheese smothered pretzel. My other goals are mileage based. Once I hit 5 mile runs, I'm getting new running shoes. Weight wise...I haven't really set any goals for when I get to certain weights. I…
  • My husband does know my weight...though I'm not sure how much he cares about the actual number. He was surprised when I told him I was up to 160 a few weeks ago. He said he didn't see that at all and actually would have guessed about 20-30 pounds less. Love is blind, maybe? He's very supportive (and smart) about how he…
  • For me, Day 1 was the worst. It's makes a difference if you keep moving and go on to day two. Stopping completely will actually make you more sore, if that's possible. I love the cardio, but I'm a cardio nut, so that helps. The most important thing is to keep moving, in small, low impact steps. Don't injure yourself doing…
  • I got them as I was growing up nearly every night as my activity levels increased...it was awful. I started getting them again during my pregnancies as more of my vitamins went to the baby. But, if you add some more potassium in your diet (bananas are a good source, but sweet potatoes are awesome too as well as yogurt and…
  • Claudette, I'm sorry you're feeling lost and struggling. There are a lot of big on-going stresses in your life, so it's understandable that you don't enjoy activities that used to make you happy, or that you can experience a confusing range of emotions in a short period of time. Talking to a doctor should give you some…
  • 8 + 1 for the half marathon training...very inspiring ;-)
  • I have a really hard time giving up boxed and canned foods, but I've made a consistent effort to use raw ingredients in just a few meals a week at first, and it does make a difference. There are a lot of quick ways to prepare your own food, if you're like me and you don't want to give up the convenience of pre-packaged…
  • My first one was Richard Dean Anderson. I was young...and my parents let me stay up to watch MacGuyver LOL
  • I fell for this trick over the holidays. I am used to drinking a cup or two of coffee at home during the day, so I started drinking a coffee mixture at Starbucks, since I spent my holidays out shopping, in airports, basically anywhere but home and there seemed to be a SB just about everywhere. I loaded up on the calories…
  • Making soda a "goal" for drinking water is an awesome way to ease away from sodas. I wish I had read this/thought of that when I was nixing them. I just stopped cold turkey, which was not a lot of fun, considering the sudden loss of caffeine daily. It took three weeks for me to work it out. Now I might have one soda a…
  • This has been the most helpful thread regarding protein questions. Awesome. Thanks to those who put the information in one place!
  • Thanks for asking this. I had the same question. I've been a few hundred calories under the suggested allowance daily, but never feel hungry, so I don't make up for it. I've been curious as to the long term effects of starvation mode and whether or not I was "in it" if I just didn't honestly feel hungry.
  • I didn't realize Netflix had workouts available! I will check that out. I noticed that my cable provider offers a lot of free at home workout routines in the On Demand menus. I can choose from yoga, Jillian Michaels, etc. I think 30 day shred is still available there...but not sure. I've been occupied with the Tower 200…
