  • Go with Lauren Brooks. Great workouts from a highly regarded KB instructor. You can also find several workouts/videos she has posted on YouTube.
  • Try mixing it up. Alternate riding at a slow pace and riding at a higher pace. Interval training ups your calorie burn and can be fun too.
  • I have six kettlebells, two Hoist adjustable dumbells (5-75 lbs), a spin bike, and two types of pushup bars. I also have two homemade sandbags that I incorporate into my workouts and a freestyle pull sled with some Olympic weights for loading it. I make use of my kids swing set for various body weight exercises. Like the…
  • You should leave the weight box bland when using bodyweight.
  • I bought a spin bike from Sams (Horizon) about a year ago, and I love it. Got it for around $399.00. It was originally priced at $599.00, but kept coming down in price until I couldn't resist. It was easy to assemble, and it can be quickly adjusted to the size of each particular rider. It also does not take up much space.
  • Please don't take my comment personally. I do know quite a few fitness professionals that have taken the time to learn proper form and program design implementing kettlebells. I just want people to be educated consumers when it comes to their health and fitness. Good trainers, strength coaches, etc. are worth their weight…
  • I've been doing Tabata at the end of my strength workouts two days a week for the last two weeks. I have been doing the intervals with mountain climbers, jumping rope, etc. Very tough, but I like it. Did two round of 8 back to back Saturday. It's already making an impact on my fitness. I will have to see the effect on…

  • Just started using the Tabata protocol with my workouts over the last week or two. I have been adding it in at the end of my strength training routines a day or two a week. I already have been doing my strength training utilizing a Gym Boss in a circuit and interval manner to get strength and cardio in at the same time, so…
  • My goal is 40 lbs. I've already lost 10 (5 since joining MFP), and I am hoping to have the other 30 off by 8-1-2011. I am using a combination of kettlebells, body weight exercises, and dumbbells in circuit type workouts. I also use a Gym Boss during my workouts which helps me keep my heart rate right where I want it. Two…
  • If you like mixing bodyweight exercises and kettlebells, look up some of the workouts on YouTube by Steve Maxwell. The workouts are simple, tough, and effective for both men and women. Also look up some of the Spartan 300 workouts posted on YouTube as well. A lot of women I know think these workouts are for men, but…
  • I buy a lot of my wife's active wear at Target. Look for the C9 styles. They provide great performance at a good price. C9 also last a long time. I also have a lot of C9 sirts, shorts, and sweats, and I like them as well as pieces that I have that cost twice as much. When it comes to shoes, don't skimp here. Buy what fits…
  • I used contractor bags for mine, but I have directions to make them with 5 lb ziploc bags. You would have to order these heavy duty bags on-line, but it would allow you to change the weight when you wanted/needed. You could even use smaller canvas gym bag to make a smaller 30 lb bag. I will try to send the directions to…
  • Lauren Brooks is great. She has great ideas for utilizing multiple KB exercises together in complexes. IF you look her videos up on YouTube, you can get some great ideas for structuring home workouts and get good demos on how to perform the various exercises correctly. In fact, she is one of the best at…
  • Thanks for idea. I've actually looked into CrossfFit on line and even watched some related videos on YouTube. I found the link on the Underground Strength Coach web site, but I did not see if there was a CrossFit gym in my area. Thanks for the idea.
  • I've been having success averaging 400 for breakfast, 450 for lunch, 500 for dinner, and 300 in snacks. I'll sometimes cut a little off one meal to "save up" for another on occasion, but this plan works for me without feeling deprived of anything.
  • So true! It's easy to get out of shape and tough to get back in it. I will have to say though, that I think it is easier for a former athlete to get it back than a non-athlete. I've been working out seriously for five weeks now, and I have made remarkable gains in strength and functional performance. It's not uncommon for…
