  • I'm in !!:flowerforyou:
  • I just ordered Ice Spikes.. they work like the screws. I just didnt feel confident that I wouldnt ruin my shoes w/ regular screws. I also have yak trax but I have seen several people now lose one in a race.. they pop off when they get old. That's a problem.
  • Home from a 4 miler in the fog and cool weather, awesome! Do you listen to music on the Trail? I do when I am by myself, probably a no no, but love it so much...

  • Balance! Muscle confusion, cross training... it's real. And the slower you lose the weight, the slower you will gain it back. 2cool... what is your age? I am guessing you are on the younger side? It's not easy to yo yo like that in your 40s, 50s... For most maintenance calories are around 2000... good calories of course;)…

  • Hope everybody got some great trail runs in this weekend :) I did a fun trail 5k this morning, my first sub 30:00 finish! so happy!!  I live in the Chgo. Burbs, you get used to cold weather running. It's really hard for me to run in heat! Worried about my Half in FL Feb. 1
  • Just started a new group "Trailrunners" I know , original. I wanted to be EZ to find. if you friend me I can send you an invite, or click on "Groups" above and search Trailrunners... it's a public group. Then we can have multiple topics rather than one thread. See ya on the trail~
  • Sarah - just have fun. Dont go out fast, save somethin' for hills, and mile 3... that's when you'll pass people :) Do you know the course? That helps.
  • I've tried running in regular running shoes ( Saucony) with Yak Trax in icy/snowy conditions and am buying trail shoes w/ ice screws. Yak Traks break with a lot of wear and tear, then you are screwed. At my trail running camp they said the latest shoes have Zero Drop, no height difference between toe and heel... so that…
  • The map for the UROC race today is below... wow! you can track runners at their website. amazing!! I was in Estes running 2 weeks ago, 8200 elevation, not easy for this flatlander! Cant imagine 12000 ft +…
  • I loved reading all the comments, It's exactly like I feel. Being out in nature, away from people , cars, pollution... so much more fun. It is definitely slower on the trail but who cares... really. I have seen deer, a ton of cool birds including sandhill cranes, turtles... fox, coyote.. much better than people! :noway:…
  • I think we have a group :drinker: clink clink I am running out the door now but will be back...
  • Just home from a Trail Running Camp, learned a lot! A couple pieces of advice: * Do hills at least once a week * Definitely buy good trail shoes * Ankle exercises... when sitting lift each foot off the ground one at a time ( while watching TV??) "write" each letter of the alphabet with your foot to strengthen and stretch…
  • i read both articles , thanks! sounds like alternating or using both is a good idea. Chia - whole seeds. Flax, buy whole, ground as you go... Thanks for the comments, I knew you guys would have answers!!
  • Forgot to mention I used the energy drink "Acclimate" 3 days before I arrived in Estes, 3 times a day. I think it helped. I know there are some professional athletes that use it before going to altitude. I drank at least 10 oz. each day while at camp. I had no issues other than a fast heart beat on Day 1. So I just did…
  • Home from Estes Pk. one week now... miss it so much! I was there for the rains and floods and have no doubt they will bounce back, mountain strong! We had to get creative with our Trail Runs as they kept closing roads and trails but we did our best. We took it EZ the first 2 days so that we could acclimate to 8200…
  • Thanks all, tapering now, just walking hills. Will let you know how it goes in Estes Park!!
  • Have learned alittle since my last post. Bought Acclimate, a drink supplement , to help me get ready for altitude. I start taking it 3 days before I head to 8000 feet, had to order online. I have to cut out coffee, too dehydrating. Need to start taper 2 weeks before the mountains, and add 100 calories of good carbs each…
  • Forgot to say I also do abs on Mon. & Wednes. after arm and shoulders etc. And I do 1200 calories. Emphasis on on protein and carbs. I also drink Muscle Milk/choc. after every workout, helps w/ recovery/soreness. I have learned a lot this year!!
  • I do a combo of P90x and running to lose weight. I follow Jeff Galloways run program "Run without Injury" General idea is to run slower when not racing, and only 3 times a week. Later you can add tempos and hills. I am 50, have been at it a year, no injury, and lost 20. 5-10 to go. I have added muscle :) Good luck, worked…
  • Thanks for the tips... Laurie62Anne... how did your race go??
  • @DavidMartinez... that is hilarious. Yes, it does suck to to simulate hills for us flatlanders. I am doing a running camp in Sept. (CO) so have been taking my hills seriously. Have been running hills once /week for min. 5 miles. Its working. My 5 k times are improving! And hopefully I wont be the last one in at camp:) I…
