I guess I'm an odd one, I use both.

Chia seeds can be used to thicken things up. If you put chia seeds in your yogurt and let it sit in the fridge for 15 minutes the yogurt will be thicker. I like to add ground flax seeds to my smoothies.

    Both.

Chia does thicken, though....have you tried "chia pudding" ? It's pretty good.

edit: I like using flax & chia in overnight oats, greek yogurt & smoothies. Also, it's great in breads/baked goods. I use them both for the fiber/omega 3s associated with them.

    depends why you're using them.

    fiber ?
    fat ?
    protein ?
    phytoestrogens ?
    omega 3 ?
    other specific micro nutritients ?
    thickening ?
flavor (or lack of flavor) when adding to other things ?

they're both excellent in many ways, and consumed is such a small quantity,

i read both articles , thanks! sounds like alternating or using both is a good idea. Chia - whole seeds.
Flax, buy whole, ground as you go...

Thanks for the comments, I knew you guys would have answers!!

I use both. As another has suggested, grind up the flax as you go instead of buying a big bag of ground up stuff.

I use chia in puddings or oatmeal for the most part, flax in my smoothies and sometimes in baked goods. I don't see a reason to not use both
