  • I have my alarm set to a few hours before I get up each morning. I take a minute just to wake up and take my Synthroid, then I go back to sleep. When I get up at my usual time, I can chow on breakfast right away.
  • My loss is 17-18% of my starting weight. Yes, I've worked for over a year to make the lifestyle stick. I log every day (408-day streak). I exercise 3 days per week. No, the friends are nice but I hold myself accountable. If you want, though, feel free to add me as a friend.
  • I also want breakfast first thing in the morning, so I just set an alarm to go off earlier. I work the evening shift, so I get up around 10 or 11 a.m. But I set my alarm to 7 a.m., at which point I wake up and take my Synthroid and go right back to sleep.
  • Start taking it right away! Thyroid health is about more than weight gain or loss. And with good eating and exercise, Levo could even help you lose weight.
  • ^^ This! Especially on us petite ladies. I shrunk a cup size but I don't mind at all. I'd much rather be fit all over than chubby ever again.
  • I just had the same experience. I lost 21 lbs this time last year (146 to 125), then it became 121, then 118. It slowly creeped back up to 120, which I was fine with. But during August my weight creeped up to 122/123, and my waistband was feeling tight. So I cut back my maintenance calories from 1700 to 1600 and that did…
  • You think you have it bad? I got my first greys at puberty! A family trait my mom and siblings share. Some people also told me to embrace my greys and be a "silver fox." I don't have enough grey for that, so I'd be a salt-and-pepper fox for the next 20 years. Others would ask me why I don't dye. Until about age 30,…
  • I'm 5'2 with medium frame and weigh 121. I'm happy here, even if there's room for improvement. Not reaching for perfection. I say evaluate it as you get closer to that goal. Where are you at now?
  • I second seeing the endocrinologist if you're not a fan of your GP. They're the specialists, so they would know better. Has your doc noticed an enlarged thyroid at all? Both my endo and my GP are always feeling my throat. I've been hypo for about 10 years now, but I haven't needed other tests. I have heard of people saying…
  • I didn't end up using the app. When it came down to it, I didn't want to leave my smartphone unguarded at the Y. Or have water sloshing over it, even if it's supposedly waterproof up to a certain depth. So I did counting, and a little timing, but boy was that a lot of numbers. lol I'm still eyeing the Garmin Swim watch.
  • Don't be silent about it all summer. I'm aware of all the cultural upbringing, being raised with it myself. We're supposed to respect our elders, but respect doesn't mean letting them berate you. Respect is a whole other issue from letting people nag you and put you down every single day ... don't equate the two. I say…
  • I found this one and am going to try it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hammersoft.swimming.coach&hl=en I also saw this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danoware.android.myswimmingtimes&hl=en If anybody wants to be MFP swimming buddies, I'm open to friend requests. I'm a beginner…
  • I see the TDEE sites and calculators mentioned a lot, but I just went by the MFP-given numbers. That said, I did eat back exercise calories, so when I was losing I ate 1400 calories a day, but some days I ended up eating 2000+ total because I ate back exercise calories burned. And I did lose, and have been maintaining for…
  • Yes, I did swim today and I'm hoping to make some MFP swim friends. I'm still very much a beginner swimmer. Today for the first time I was able to do 75 yards nonstop a few times; previously 50 was my limit. Trying to build up those lungs and that endurance! I also swim with long-blade fins, which my Intermediate Swim…
  • I thought it might be SAD, and I even bought that Happy Light. lol I'm not sure it does anything. I've told both my new primary care doc, and the one who preceded her for several years. All they suggested was the Vitamin D and getting extra sunlight, something that's hard to do in a Boston winter working a later shift. The…
  • Just don't have a Bridget Jones granny panty moment when you're getting it on.
  • Sorry, only saw this reply now. I did take them. Once years ago I was prescribed Rx-strength D, and last fall I was told to just take extra D over the counter. When I called back the doctor's office, the nurse even suggested I take double what was recommended, so I took 2,000 IUs plus whatever was in my multi (I think 400…
  • Hi everyone, I just discovered this group. I've been hypo for about 10 years, originally also with hyperprolactinemia and a pituitary gland growth, but the latter two have been resolved. I take Synthroid, and have been overweight to a lesser or greater degree since graduating college, until I started MFP last year. It's…
  • Sort of. I've been taking either Levo or Synthroid for about 10 years now (same dosage all along), and most of that time I was overweight to a lesser or greater degree. Just taking the pill did nothing for me, but I was able to reach my weight loss goal over 6 months last year after starting MFP. An endo early on told me…
  • My friend smoked an e-cig at the movie theater. It was weird, but nobody complained or told her to stop.
  • Congratulations, you look great! And your arms especially look nice and toned.
  • Dosage adjustment was my first thought too. It sounds like everything else you're doing is right, and the blood test will tell you if your levels are staying where they should be. I've been taking Synthroid for about 10 years and the same dosage has worked all along, but I won't be surprised if that changes one day. Good…
  • I've heard the same thing about soy, but what's wrong with dairy and gluten? I also have hypo and take Synthroid, but I have 1% milk with my oatmeal most days, eat ice cream some days, and ingest lots of gluten and I'm fine. Met my weight-loss goal last year. I haven't heard almonds are bad either, did your doctor tell you…
  • Maybe 1200 is too low for you. MFP told me to eat 1200 when I was losing, and I flatly refused to. I think I started at 1800 and gradually weaned myself down to 1400, but I exercised 4 days a week back then so I often ate over 2000. These days I maintain at 1700, and I eat back exercise calories. But maybe bump it up a bit…
  • Did you say cats??! Mine are shelter rescues but don't like each other (they both want the spot in front of the microwave), but they're the sweetest furballs in the world. Also, a friend gave me this mug, so it's official.
  • Ditto. I'm doing 1700 now and have maintained for over half a year. OP, your weight will fluctuate a little but a couple pounds here and there is nothing to be concerned about. I have a range of about 2 pounds that my weight stays within, and I wouldn't be concerned unless I went up 4 pounds and stayed there. You did say…
  • That sounds like a lot for a young person like you to take on. I'm sorry for your loss, and thinking that's a lot of responsibility for your family to saddle you with. But you're asking about weight loss and hypo. I have hypothyroidism and I think if your levels are stable and your medication dosage is right, you should…
  • Have you considered cottage cheese? Some people like it and others hate it, but it's another alternative. I like the Trader Joe's Organic Lowfat one ... seems creamier and better-textured to me. Also, I saw that you like lasagna, and there are recipes that use cottage cheese as well.
  • It can get bitter, but experiment with steeping longer. Add another two minutes and go from there, but I wouldn't go for a whole hour.
  • Try to buy sampler sizes to see if you like the tea first; some teas smell better than they taste. Maybe you would like the chai mate iced with some almond milk, like a cold latte? Unsweetened almond milk is low in calories. Right now I'm drinking a Rhubarb Strawberry Parfait Iced tea from David's tea, and I drink it iced…
