  • I also struggle many days to reach my protein goals, even though I only have it set at 20%. Do you guys just eat huge steaks every day? Protein shakes? I can only eat so much chicken before my stomach starts feeling an aversion, for some reason.
  • I've just been researching that and the fitbit wrist strap and Nike flex. Just starting but the UP looks like my favorite so far. I heard that last spring there were LOTS of issues with them breaking so they took them off the market, retooled them, and rereleased them for this year. So here's hoping. Going to ask for one…
  • I love Zumba, but the dance/teaching styles vary greatly with the teacher. I've had 3 different ones: really fast, moderately fast with lots of hispanic flair (she was actually from Colombia), and moderately slow-ish with more African flair. The middle one was definitley my fave. It's fun if you like to dance, have good…
  • I haven't had a baby, but I've had issues with UTIs in the past. My urologist suggested I take Azo when I feel the urge to go, yet I know I've just gone recently. So maybe that would help? She said it's basically like a bladder-pain reliever so I can take it as I would take tylenol for a headache. Good luck! (oh,…
  • Lol, I hear ya. Now if I could just get my husband to leave me some!
  • Obviously with 15 pages of comments, tl;dr. But has anyone entered Tae Bo or similar kick boxing workouts into the conversation? Yes, you may not get stronger doing them, but if you put force behind the kicks and punches, resistance bands, all the squats and some videos that have extensive ab workouts at the end.....…
  • Awesome! You give hope for the rest of us. (No babies for me... yet). Did you do anything special besides reducing calories? Any particular workouts? Also, if you don't mind my asking, what was your fitness/activity level before pregnancy?
  • Sure sure, me too. Was up to 178 lbs senior year of college 2004/5. By mid-2006 I had lost 55 lbs and was down to 122. Gained some when I went on birth control, then it's just gradually creeped up over the years. After getting married in 2011, I went from 137 up to 146. I started using weights more and was back down to…
  • What? 200g/day? Isn't that bad for you? I mean, yeah I guess if you're working out a crap ton, but I know I've read there are upper limits of how much protein you can process per day. I thought I was doing well with eating 80-90g/day even though MFP only puts it at around 56 for me. Also, I thought most of your workout…
  • I definitely do this! I usually work out 5 days a week, but Tuesdays and Saturdays I do Zumba and Body Pump back to back. Rather than eating an extra 700+ cals on those two days, I usually bump up my Wednesdays and Sundays a little as well. I think it's fine as long as it evens out over the week.
  • I've always been baffled by the intermittent fasting thing too. I am a student of Japanese culture, and was told the "Sumo Wrestlers' Diet" was that they only ate one huge meal a day. Something about the huge meal plus not eating the rest of the time helped them pack on the pounds. When I was a littel older and trying to…
  • Welll....... honey has been used for hundreds (? thousands? I don't know, a long time.....) of years for medicinal purposes. So yes, it's high in sugar, but I always add it to my tea when I have a sore throat. Does wonders. I think I read some ancient cultures used it as an antibacterial. Didn't Cleopatra use it as a…
  • Exactly, same here. I'm not about to swear off all sugar, that would be totally unrealisitc. But I do attempt to limit it when I can and this is one way, 'no added sugars' just means I'm taking in less than the regular stuff. Enjoying it in moderation, etc.
  • I was just wondering about this yesterday. When I searched the forum for prior threads, the best advice seems to be to log the time spent under Strength Training in the "Cardio" section. It should get close to estimating how much you burn during the actual exercies, but not count the post-workout boost to metabolism.
  • I've logged every single day for the past 13 months (mostly on Lose It! app, before I switched to MFP at my sister's request), and finally decided to give it up and relax for a few weeks. My 2 week hiatus ends Sunday, so I'll be weighing myself then to see how I did. I hope I've done alright by just listening to my body…
  • When I originally lost weight after college (it's been awhile now), I lost 55 lbs and went from a 38 DD down to a 34 C.
  • Because the calorie goal they give you should allow you to lose weight without exercie. I.e., it is already a caloric deficit from your daily calorie burning from everyday life. So when you exercise it may make the deficit too high and can slow your progress. You need to fuel your workouts.
  • I like "Under Pressure" from Queen and David Bowie. When it comes up on shuffle I just have to jog faster!!
  • Yes, I've seen posts on this before. guess I should break down and actually follow it, huh? Guess we'll see what happens. Thanks!
  • Yeah... I actually don't keep my diary on here. I use Lose It!, but I discovered MFP like 6 mos. after I started on that one. I do several different types of workouts. Zumba 1-2x per week, step aerobics while holding hand weights, body pump, heavy weights on the gym machines. Recently I've dusted off my Jillian Kettlebell…
  • I'm 5'4" and 145. After college I went from 178 down to 122, and found that was too low for me. My knees would hurt when I stacked them while laying on my side because there wasn't enough cushion. Although I've put a few (too many) pounds on in the last couple years, I found 130 was where I felt the best.
  • Thanks guys, Very helpful! I'm glad it's not just me. I'll just go back to what I was doing and give it a few more days before I freak out.:) Taking off 5 lbs for real is not something I imagine I can do quickly, I've been at a steady 138-141 lbs for a couple years now, since going from 178 down to 125 about 8 years ago.
  • Artificial sweeteners don't effect blood sugar levels, right? Like they don't cause spikes like eating a pastry would? That's my biggest reason for still using them, even though they're questionable for your health. If I ate real sugar foods, yes, I think I could fit them in my calorie limits for the day, but the blood…
  • I hear ya. Actually it's been quite hard to stick to at least semi-healthy eating the last few weeks because I'm so bored. I hate cooking, so when I keep reading advice that I just need to learn to use more spices and cook better.... well, I just don't have the desire to put in that level of effort. Lol. But I've been…
  • I'm 5'4" and went from 178 lbs to 121 lbs in 18 months after college, and still had all the trouble spots (lower belly, inner thighs, upper arms), even though I felt like skin and bones some places (collar bones, around my knees, etc). Eventually I just had to accept that that is my natural shape. I've since gained around…
  • I usually just log it as circuit training, and deduct time for stretching at the end of class. (So around 50-55 mins for a 60 min class). I figure it's in the ballpark even though there's a little rest between muscle groups.
  • I'm no expert (never been pregnant... maybe next year?), but you should talk to your doctor. If you're overweight they'll probably tell you that you shouldn't diet, but that you shouldn't gain as much weight as a 'normal' weight pregnant woman. Keep up the exercise, I hear it's so important to keep your strength up. But…
  • Good luck! It's never to late to get healthy. :)
  • Really? Nobody?? Bump for the evening crowd.
  • bump for the lunch crowd??
