  • Ok, I've lost about 25 pounds- I'm 5'9, I've gone from about 220 (I didn't have access to a scale when I started) to 194. I am 26 and I don't remember EVER in my life being under 200 pounds (scary, I know). I've had a lot of injures recently, which has slowed my progress, but I'm just starting to be able to see it, so I'd…
  • Why did you post anything in this thread? Why did you waste your time by reading responses. Don't bother responding to this guy, he's not worth it.
  • Nice people! I live abroad now, and whenever I'm back in Toronto I totally take the opportunity to talk to people whenever I get the chance! I miss striking up a conversation SO much! Canada might not be my home right now, but it's my homeland, and I love it!
  • I'm 5'9, currently weigh 197 (I started at around 220). My goal is to first get to a healthy BMI (170) and then re-evaluate once I get there! I've never been under 200 before (since I was at least 14), so I'm keeping my goals realistic for now.
  • Yes, this is important to know so that other people who live where you do can offer advice. Check out the frozen veggie section- often the house brands at supermarkets are excellent value, and if you steam the frozen veg, they can have more nutrients still in them than fresh as they are flash-frozen once picked on the…
  • It really depends on what's in season- check out what's in season in your area, and it should be the best value at the farmer's market. beThe best bet for eating fresh veggies and fruits on a budget is to buy frozen- they are often flash frozen straight after picking, so have even more nurtients than what you can get at…
  • I'm surprised that most people here are saying to weigh it uncooked. I'm not a meat eater, so I'm no expert, but I do eat fish. I know that when I defrost shrimp, they weight significantly less than when they are frozen- and on the package the nutrition is given when they are de-thawed. Obviously, they loose water weight…
  • Swimming! This is the only thing I could do for months (besides yoga) after spraining mine! I sprained my ankle 3 times in 1 year (required a cast for 2 of those times), I sprained it last in November 2011 after I had been running for only 2 months and was beginning to love it. I feel your pain!
  • Somehow you managed to pretend to have read my response, while also deleting the "meat" of it. I also said this: As for veggies, in order to have a healthy, balanced diet, veggies must be a part of them! If you want to assist him in getting over his aversion, one idea is to start by using veggies picky kids love. I was a…
  • the longest I've done is about 18 hours in advance- I think it may get a bit too "gummy" if you leave them for too long. It's important to remember to leave the oatmeal UNCOVERED in the fridge- and to always add a dash of salt. My overnight oatmeal has been even better with these additions.
  • Oh man! Sounds AMAZING! And like it will fill me up till dinner! haha
  • Oh, I'm watching! I'm a Canadian living in Switzerland with my English/Swiss husband- I've learned as much about football as one can in the 3 years we've been together! It's very exciting. No predictions- but I'm hoping for England! Will they EVER score in this game?
  • I never thought about this till now, but YES, it definitely is. I now have a much clearer idea of what my "goal" is- though the picture isn't perfectly clear yet (it gets clearer the closer I get to it). Before, I just wanted a magic "healthy" BMI. After being on MFP, fitness and health is so much more about a BMI. Now,…
  • ooo awesome! Thanks for the ideas! I hate using those sauces out of the bottle.
  • Hrm... if he's that picky, he should cook for himself. As for veggies, in order to have a healthy, balanced diet, veggies must be a part of them! If you want to assist him in getting over his aversion, one idea is to start by using veggies picky kids love. I was a live-in nanny for picky eaters, and they loved: corn (on or…
  • No no, do not ruin those eggs by hard boiling them! You need to use eggs that are at least a week old to hard boil. Use those gorgeous fresh eggs to soft-boil and eat over steamed asparagus or spinach. You soft-boil eggs by bringing water just to a low boil with a tablespoon of vinegar, turn the heat off, quicky add in the…
  • Quinoa is so awesome- use it anywhere you would normally use rice :) You can also make a really fantastic cold quinoa salad (amounts are up to you): Cooked quinoa (chilled) feta cheese blueberries (or whatever berried you have on hand) cucumber squeezed lime juice mix it all up and enjoy!
  • Overnight oatmeal is the new breakfast of champions. I do mine with a 1/2 chopped banana, 1 cup light soy milk, 1/3 cup water, 1/2t tsp stevia and a tsp of instant coffee- it's AMAZING!
  • Third generation Canadian- but 100% Sicilian background.
  • Don't stress, sometimes those fans aren't strong enough. Your housemates were just too lazy (or busy) to come down and tell you face to face. Smells get people in different ways- my husband wants to hurl every time I use sweet chili sauce on anything, and I'm the same whenever he cooks anything with beef. If there is a…
  • You could replace the "American Look" with any other region/nationality. Fashion is soooo regional and you can't go out and buy a whole new wardrobe wherever you go. Just don't wear a giant American flag, and try not to be too loud when you're in public (not a value judgement- Americans are just used to speaking in a…
  • my favourite is a spinach salad with a little bit of whole-wheat penne (can replace this with 1/2 a can of beans) and cottage cheese. Add a bit of lemon, vinegar and garlic salt- YUM! Another favourite of mine is Chick Pea salad with crackers. I agree- I hate sandwiches and I don't like to have hot lunches! Best.
  • It's not tacky! If anyone knows your situation, they will understand. It's tacky when you do it like Seal/Heidi Klum did :P My husband and I had a quickie wedding last autumn, because we couldn't be together if we weren't married, and couldn't imagine doing long-distance anymore. We're having a first year anniversary party…
  • I track everything- including spices, lemon juice, vitamins (when I remember to take them), salt, pepper, etc. The only thing I don't track is sugar-free gum and water (too lazy)
  • 7:00- "grumble grumble". Run downstairs, put the coffee machine on (pre-measured the night before), take oatmeal out, put it in the microwave (pre-measured the night before). Go to the bathroom to brush teeth/wash face/etc. 7:10- put clothes on (laid out the night before), eat breakfast, drink coffee 7:20- do hair,…
  • I'm in, I've been recovering from an injury, and am totally ready for this :)
  • I am so not a "vegas" person, but my husband is interested in going, and I come from a big family full of "vegas lovers". They all tell me you can go see shows, walk around a lot, visit the sites, and sit by the pool- apparently this is enough to warrant all the other stuff for us "non-vegas types".
  • I have never suffered from depression, but this seems like excellent advice!
