Except good infrastructure doesn't enforce good driving habits. The roads could be the most well-lighted, cleanest, grippiest roads ever and none of that would help a stereotypical Miami driver. ;) Availability of better foods, though, does enforce better nutrition. Even if the kids eat unhealthily at home, there's at…

A lot of times following low carb will help maintain a calorie deficit simply because eating more fat/protein will leave you satisfied for longer and less likely to binge. Some days I don't even realize I've eaten at a deficit.

It's not high enough!

Uh, a medium banana has less than 1g of fat. All those calories come from carbohydrates. The fattiest fruit is the avocado.

Fiber is just a carb that the body doesn't process, and it provides bulk to slow the digestion of other carbs. But eating fiber doesn't mean you get to delete non-fiber carbs. It all stems from the US' Nutrition Facts. In the US, fiber is not automatically subtracted from total carbohydrates in our food labels. In other…

Give me all your yolks and their delicious choline and fat. I'd eat 9 eggs a day but I'm on a budget.

A spoonful of braunschweiger/liverwurst is great. Some sodium though.

Mine's open because I like to use my diary as an example when introducing MFP to IRL people who don't have an account, for school projects, etc. It beats having to hunt down some random member with a public diary. I don't particularly care what people have to say about my eating/exercise habits, good or bad I've already…

What's the logical leap from "eating carbs makes me sick" to "no carb diets don't work"? And if the OP is possibly gluten intolerant or has celiac's, then this is some really dangerous advice.

I'll look and smile and say hey. If they don't smile back but are looking/scowling at me, I just keep smiling and maintain eye contact until they get out of my field of vision. If they don't want to accept my goodwill, they'll just have to accept me trying to make them uncomfortable. :P

White foods = anything made with white flour, white sugar, white potatoes, or corn flour/meal/starch/syrup.

Find a sugar limit that's right for you and stick under it. Sugar is sugar, your body will shuffle it off to wherever it wants no matter where you get sugar from. It's only better to get it from fruits because fruits have more beneficial nutrients. The fiber in fruits also keeps the sugar from being digested as quickly as…

No matter what you eat, it's always good idea to eat in proper intervals. Try not to go for too long without eating something. I'm hypoglycemic and the only way I was able to stave off the shakes, fainting, blue lips, and headaches was to minimize eating anything that my body could could metabolize into glucose. Since then…

Negative calories are a myth.

Popcorn is low carb??? News to me... ;)

In many cases of people switching to low carb from a higher carb diet, within the first week or so as the body adjusts to metabolizing more fat and protein instead of carbs, there's a period of energy loss, brain fog, general fatigue, and sometimes even negative mood changes that can last anywhere from a few days to a…

Currently trying to get back into ketosis. Macronutrient goals are set to 15% carb / 45% fat / 45% protein. With a calorie goal of 1200, that allows for about 30g of carbs. Had energy loss in the very beginning(a year ago), but after a month or so my performance was back to normal. I want to say two weeks won't be enough…

I've been meaning to try out these flax crackers: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/snacks/r/flaxcrackers.htm

This.

You could do either of those, but a better way to get your omegas is to just eat more flax. Sprinkle whole flax seeds some on your cereal or use flaxmeal to make no-flour muffins/bread. Maybe even take a spoonful of flaxseed oil each day. However, if you want beautiful, strong, healthy hair, you should definitely research…

Do your research and make sure it's what you really want to do. Like others have said, it's a lifestyle choice. It's not one of those 30-day, whatever-fast, lose-weight-then-go-back-to-eating-weird things. If you want your achievements from low carb to stick around, you're going to have to commit. Low carb in general has…

Weigh them, burn them in a calorimeter, and apply the correct equations to the water temperature differential and remains. Bam, instant calorie count! :D

Even designer products have sodium lauryl sulfate. If you care about your hair as much as what you eat, make sure to actually read and research the ingredients in your shampoo just like you do with your food. Even the most expensive, designer shampoo can contribute to destroying your hair. It did for me, so I'll take…

I dunno about broccoli. Protein, maybe. Since I've started eating lots of meat, I've noticed my hair grows thicker, my nails are shinier and stronger, and my skin looks better. Heard it was because of the increased gelatin intake. I don't know how a vegetarian might be able to manage this--eat more avocados maybe? It has…

Nay. I can't stand the taste of foods made fat free. Full fat all the way. The more fat the better.

Artic Zero coffee-flavored is pretty much the only ice cream I can eat. I love it, but it's too expensive for me to eat frequently. It's also definitely not sweet or creamy enough to be considered an adequate replacement for regular ice cream. The consistency of Artic Zero is more watery and it freezes nearly solid at a…
