  • I do the same thing nicsflyingcircus does, but there is a script that will give you net carbs in your browser: http://cavemanketo.com/configuring-mfp/
  • I pretty much added every keto site I ever found and favorited, well known or not, plus ones that people suggested. Whats your site? I'll take a look. :)
  • Congrats! Great job. :)
  • Russell Stover sugar free sweets help with my sweet cravings without kicking me out of keto. They are sometimes in the candy section of the grocery store or in the pharmacy section. I also found a low carb milk chocolate, dark chocolate and chocolate with almonds at Trader Joes under the brand Simply Lite (you can also buy…
  • Yes, the ketostix are not the most accurate way. Aside from protein, the color will also vary based on how hydrated you are. They also only measure one of two kinds of ketones - as you get deeper into ketosis, the kind it measures becomes less prevalent, and the kind it doesn't measure becomes more prevalent. So, it seems…
  • All right, so my website list is pretty extensive, but I don't have many books yet. What keto/low carb books do you personally like, use and recommend? This would be both information books about the keto diet as well as cookbooks. These can be books on amazon or just ebooks someone sells on a website, just as long as you…
  • It's not zero net carbs, but it is very low because it's very high in fiber. I use flax seed meal for pizza crust and crackers and I love it. :)
  • I've been on it since July, and no to both.
  • I've always used net carbs, and it works very well for me. My first two weeks on the keto diet I had 20-35 net carbs per day, and that was 34-50 regular carb count. And that got me into successfully into ketosis. I've been on keto since July 2013. As for ketostix - they aren't the most accurate way to measure ketones since…
  • I just wanted to say thanks for the tip on the protein with hair loss...I haven't been paying as much attention to my protein as I should, especially since I'm working out and building muscle, and that may very well be my problem.
  • Actively working on the site now, adding those links, books mentioned here and elsewhere, as well as my own personal list of stuff - it's getting pretty extensive! And found a few websites that have some meal plans listed, which should help some of you guys out. :) If you want to be notified by email when the site is up,…
  • I am 31, have been on keto since July 2013, and I've noticed that I seem to have more hair coming out in the shower and when I brush it. Not enough to concern me because I have a lot of hair, but I noticed it happening. Otherwise, I feel fine, so maybe it's a random side effect of the diet that some people get. I also get…
  • Thanks for the replies and the links. Definitely looks like it's worth doing. :) It will be a big project, so what I'll do is publish out pieces at a time, starting with a resource list and a set of forums. I'll let you know when the first version of the site is available. It may take a while since I'm doing this in…
  • More suggestions for eating out - Five guys has a bunless burger option that is great, Jimmy Johns has a lettuce wrap option for their subs. Try to stick to chain restaurants when you sit down to eat, and pick them beforehand - a lot of those restaurants will list the nutrition information online, so you can plan ahead and…
  • I do HIIT style exercises once or twice a week with with a personal trainer and it's pretty much a non-issue for me. I eat my regular keto diet, when I need more calories for any of my exercise, I eat more fat, as usual. I actually last through these exercises better than my husband, who is on a regular high carb diet.…
  • Sorry I haven't replied, work has been insanely busy recently. fangirl - thanks for that, I do have that one, it was a great help when I was first getting started. Leonidas, I love Dr Attia. He's definitely got some useful research that I'm planning to point to, especially around the subject of exercise and performance.…
  • Thank you for those links. I hadn't seen the second two. I will definitely keep them in mind for a resource and types of information to include. Please feel free to send me any other links, I have a number of keto websites that I've visited for information but I'm sure I don't have them all. :)
  • Okay, I could add in some menu plans and have associated shopping lists. Anyone else interested? Have any other requests?
  • First, thanks for replying. :) I don't want to spend time building a website if no one but me will be interested in it. To answer your question, it would be similar to redditt keto, and I would link to those various reddit groups as resources. The difference I'm thinking of is having things be more organized and easier to…
  • I wouldn't have a cheat day for at least a month because you will be more keto adapted then. 2 weeks is way too soon. I went on keto in July 2013 and I didn't cheat until November 2013, and only then because I had a stomach flu and couldn't keep anything but crackers down. Once you're in it for longer, you can cheat a…
  • I do agree with you - though I just looked my at stats since starting keto and I am one of the lucky ones that loses weight faster on keto. It took me 7mo to lose 20lb on a regular calorie restricted & exercise regime, and only 4 months on a keto diet, exercising the same to lose 20lb. And while that's great, that's not…
  • As it happens, I record my bodyfat % weekly. I lost fat most weeks even before I started nutritional ketosis, but on a calorie restricted low-fat, regular diet. After I got on NK, I pretty much lost fat every week, and more of it, starting with the first week.
  • I got the recipe from "The Gluten Free Low Carber" cookbook on amazon, but the author offers most of her recipes for free on her website. The one for flax seed pizza is here: http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/09/low-carb-gluten-free-pizza-crust-2.html
  • Thanks. :) I added you. I am also generally open to any other new friends, so please feel free to add me, my diary is public.
  • Hello, I'm new to the group, too, but not to keto - been on that since July. Feel free to friend me if you're looking for any sample menus, my diet diary is open. :)

  • I got a nasty stomach bug on Thanksgiving after having been on keto since July - it was the first time I cheated since being on keto since I just couldn't stomach anything other than crackers and some chicken soup. Pepperoni and cheese just wasn't going to do anything good for a queasy stomach. It was only a temporary…
  • Those are some good ideas. :) Trader Joes sells a fantastic low carb milk chocolate that I love, tastes almost like dove chocolate, and having one serving a day doesn't seem to have any effect on my ketone levels. For pizza, I found a recipe with flax crust that works just fine for me - the flax is so high in fiber that it…
  • What delta229 says is true, ketostix are not an accurate way to measure ketosis, and the precision xtra meter posted is what I use., as well. I buy them in online from canada 50 at a time for about 100 and measure once a day in the morning, most days anyway.
  • I've found that pants with belt loops have been awesome. I'll wear them with belts until they truly look ridiculous - in fact I just put two of my biggest pairs away this week, after losing about 40lb. I've also held onto a pile of "too small" clothes that I pull out and occasionally try on to see if I fit in them again,…
  • Hello, all. :) I've been calorie counting/restricting and exercising for the past year and lost about 35lb that way, but I heard about low-carb being a good diet, ended up doing some online research that led to the book The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance. I read the book, saw a lot of great benefits…
