  • I'd be willing to sell mine. I don't want them. Really. I want to be flat as a 9 year old and zero bounce when running or Zumba-ing.
  • Two slices of 35 calorie bread (several different brands have it) toasted with peanut butter (I like the kind that is freshly ground, no preservatives or sugar) and a small banana on top. (200 ish calories) Oatmeal with cinnamon and stevia. (depends on how much oatmeal you eat- I eat 2 packets and each is 100) Turkey…
  • You've gotten some good advice already, but I wanted to say that if you are eating good quality food, you shouldn't feel physically hungry. Nice lean proteins (chicken and turkey breast, lean pork loin, occasionally some lean beef), whole grains, low fat dairy, and lots of veggies will satisfy you. I think everyone should…
  • I started at 340(ish.. the scale couldn't weigh me until I got down to 335, so I could have been more.) Anyway, the first thing I did for fitness was got a pedometer and started building my steps. I couldn't exercise hard core back then. I gradually built from 3000-4000 steps a day until I was getting 7,500 or so on a…
  • I like almonds (half or 1 oz), light string cheese, turkey pepperoni, veggie straws, raw veggies, and anything from Graze. (I get a Graze snack box every 2 weeks in the mail, which is AWESOME!)
  • I'm hoping mine will keep shrinking and then I can have the flat perky kind that don't require a bra. :-)
  • I've got about 180-190 to lose. About half way done and going strong. Add me if you'd like.
  • Definitely get rid of them or you're subconsciously giving yourself permission to regain what you've lost. The exception to that would be the last size before your goal, as many people find it difficult/impossible to stay at your ultimate goal. (Plus we all have those bloaty fat days.)
  • I've liked all the ones I've tried, but faves are cookies and cream, cookie dough, and vanilla almond. I never warm them.
  • And I read it as "Panty Moths."
  • My son's karate instructor says that he doesn't recommend any lifting for boys under 18 due to it being very easy to injure their growing joints and muscles. For that reason, I'd say make sure to consult his doctor and/or a trainer who is trained in working with adolescents. Why take a chance on a permanent injury?…
  • Mango Salsa Lays! Yuck! On a side note, I thought the Cappuccino ones were AMAZING! Who'd have thought?
  • I credit my fit bit for taking me from 3,000-4,000 steps a day to 10,000-15,000 every single day. Fitbit is the reason I park in the last possible parking space. It's why I take the stairs and walk down the baby aisle at the grocery store, even though I don't need anything in that aisle. It has motivated to take 4 mile…
  • I've found it very helpful to join a class. While it is not one on one, she customizes the difficulty level for each person in the class. "Here's how to do this move, here's how to make it harder, here's how you can make it easier if necessary." I love the classes so much that I can't imagine quitting, but if I did I would…
  • Quest bars are an awesome protein source (20 grams). I like cookies and cream, cookie dough, and almond coconut so far. You have to get them at the vitamin stores or GNC (or online). I heard that if you contact them they will send you samples of some flavors to try. One quick dinner you might try- get those meat free…
  • Please put me on the Ravenclaw waiting list. Thanks!
  • There is difference between being hungry at midnight and having midnight cravings. If you are truly hungry at midnight, you should eat. Either eat more during the day or save some calories for a snack at that time. If it is a craving/ habitual eating, not physical hunger, try changing your routine. Most college students do…
  • I started with about 4000 steps a day average when I first got my fitbit (one). That was a year ago. Now I am consistently between 11,000-15,000 a day. It changed everything.
  • If you are allowed to chew gum, that can help. You have to remove the gum to eat a snack, so you can't snack mindlessly. It might not be great to chew gum for your whole shift, so perhaps choose times when you are likely to snack. (Maybe end of shift when you are more hungry and tired?)
  • Taking control of my health, eating healthy, exercising, and getting stronger every single day makes me happy. The weight loss is a side effect of me getting my butt in gear and stopping my nonsense self destructive behavior. Am I happier due to the weight loss? Yes. It makes everything in life easier from sitting in a…
  • They are good for fitness beginners. It's very low impact because it's just walking, kicks, etc.
  • Unless the pediatrician says he's underweight, I'd just keep focusing on a healthy, balanced diet with lots of play and activity. In a year or two, puberty will increase his appetite naturally and he'll be eating your entire weekly food budget in one day. It's okay to be thin/small as long as he isn't underweight.
  • For my first 70 or so pounds, I didn't exercise. It is possible to lose weight and even make your weight goal just with a calorie deficit. It's much easier to stay under your calorie goal if you do cardio and earn some extra calories. I think for most of us, however, we want to eventually look toned and strong. For that…
  • You're taking a huge, systematic, societal issue and trying to blame one source, parents. Are parents responsible for obesity in their children? To a point... but there is much wrong in our society that have lead to this epidemic of obesity. Unhealthy food is dirt cheap. Healthy food is expensive. Poverty is a huge factor…
  • You have to work up to running. I think most people run a bit, walk, run a bit more until your muscles get used to it. Make sure you are warming up your muscles by walking, stretching a bit, then start slowly. Stretching before and after the run/walk intervals will help as well. Make sure you're nice and warm before trying…
  • There is excellent information throughout this thread that I won't repeat, but I thought I'd throw a few things in here. You asked about potential stumbling blocks for your journey, so I thought I'd mention mine. My calorie budget is very reasonable (1520 currently) so I do not find that I am hungry. Getting downright…
  • Maybe you know someone who has recently lost weight and might donate their clothes to you? I have lots of clothes I would like to get rid of at this point as soon as I find someone who might want them. (You're not in Ohio, are you?)
  • I'm not a doctor or a trainer, so I won't talk science, just my own experiences. In February, I started a fitness class that combines cardio, weights, calisthenics, and yoga. In two months of that and my 2 lb a week calorie deficit, I lost 3 pounds. I was devastated. Here I am working so hard and no result. My trainer…
