  • I just got the same result from black bean pasta... but couldn't figure out the cause til I read this, so thanks! Silent but deadly
  • I saw this brand at Superstore the other night. Maybe I'll have to try that. In the meantime I've started making jerky for salty snacks. Just have to keep the bf from eating ALL of it. I'm in Alberta.
  • What is a good brand? I tried the most common brand I see here- Old Dutch Bac'n Puffs and they were not good. I tried breading some chicken with them, but that was revolting. Just trying to determine if the brand is not good, or I just don't like them.
  • I find that I sleep better because things just hurt less. Before, back and wrist pain would have me changing position many times a night, but now I find I'm sleeping in longer blocks - according to my fitbit, anyway!
  • You can add me. I'm not terribly interactive, but I'm losing on low carb. 32 lbs since Feb, which is slower than some but works fine for me
  • That sounds interesting - our jello salads were with grated carrot, chopped celery and Miracle Whip. The coleslaw mix sounds great!
  • I don't use isopure, I have a vanilla Kaizen whey powder. I mix it with almond milk (unsweetened) in a shaker cup. I found with just water or almond milk it separated out quickly, but adding an ounce or two of heavy cream helped that a lot. I will sometimes add some cocoa or instant coffee granules to make a mocha. I will…
  • I like Bentasil. They do have a bit of maltitol/sorbitol/xylitol, depending on the flavour, but I've never had them affect me like the sugarfree chocolates. And they're a little gummy, which kind of coats your throat.
  • Jarlsberg cheese and Black Forest ham was lunch today. The other day I had a "BLT" salad. Chopped bacon and tomato, mixed in mayo with salt and pepper, on a big bowl of lettuce. Bf gave me some weird looks, but it was really good. All the BLT flavours without the annoying carbage.
  • I tried it for a while- didn't really notice any benefit, but found if I went over 1 TBSP I would get stomach pain and nausea. I found it didn't really affect my appetite either way, but it ended up being calories that I would prefer to spend on "real" food.

  • I don't understand the hype about Quest bars. I got one, tried it and tossed it after a third.(cookies and cream). The white chocolate raspberry was marginally better (managed to finish it finally) but not worth the $3-5 per bar. I'll go get some cheese or a Kirkland bar instead.
  • I just had to chime in on this one. I'm in Canada too, and it's about 88F here right now. (31C) I am not chilly today!

  • Hmm, they only use 3 tbsp plus a box of brownie mix in the recipe on the bag. May be good for flavouring, or in combination with other flours.

  • Do you regularly drink tea or coffee and missed it that day? I have run into that when sodium and potassium are not helping a headache.

  • That's interesting. I may have to try this, as I have always had a hate-hate relationship with my guts, and have never been "regular". Once a day??? Madness! I have been trying to keep my veggies (and fiber) up while staying low carb, but I haven't seen any improvement in the ongoing battle, so maybe I'll try cutting the…
  • My BF loves Greek ribs... no sauce, just seasoned with salt and pepper, and then doused with lemon juice and sprinkled with oregano. Pretty yummy and LC friendly :)
  • Yes. I was involved in a clinical study looking at Vit D, stress markers, and a couple other things, and EVERYONE was very low. The study coordinator mentioned that this is common at our latitude (this was in Vancouver, BC) and you would have to have arms and legs bare and exposed to the sun for hours per day in the summer…
  • Cabbage sautéed with bacon, brussel sprouts blanched and finished in a frying pan with butter and garlic, spinach steamed with garlic and hot peppers, creamed spinach, salad, spiralized zucchini with garlic, cauliflower rice, cauliflower mash, steamed broccoli, asparagus steamed, sautéed zucchini slices.
  • I was pretty carboholic when I started about 7 weeks ago. All about the bread, sugar, etc. I thought I might have a lot of trouble, but honestly I haven't had really bad cravings. It helps that I feel really good- physically and mentally- on low carb. I generally am under 20, maybe up to 25 g/day of carbs. No bread, no…
  • I've seen them at Co-op (south eastern Alberta) and Pharmasave. I think Sobey's had them too here. Costco also has Whisps- parmesan crackers- which are great too!
  • I just got some MCT oil (Alpha something?) at Nutter's last night. $25, with 20% off for their Power Tuesday- Score! I would try local health food shops for the grass fed butter. Or if you know any friendly (smaller) farmers, or smaller dairies in your area. Good luck!
  • Zucchini tasted super sweet to me the other day. And cabbage, too. Not missing the donuts and pop I used to have all too often!
  • Keep going on and off MFP. It works, when I use it. I turned 40 a couple of months ago, and over 100 lbs to lose. Really have to stick with it this time and hopefully find some more friends to help me stay accountable. Like I've seen a lot here, it's time to get healthy!
  • I have about 100 to get to my goal weight... Feel free to add me :) Had some luck with MFP before, lost about 20, then gained it back and some when I moved in with my bf and got out of the habit of logging and exercising. Just started getting below my original weight, whee! Just have to keep on going!
  • Science geek here... Biochem degree, horrified at bad science in movies, and loooooove reading fantasy and some sci-fi. Martin, Rothfuss, Hearne, Lynch, Bujold, Moon to name a few. Have travelled across 2 countries to get to Dragon*Con- 3 times... Was a pretty involved WoW raider, but gave that up a couple years ago. It's…
  • I'd like to get in on this too! Was just about to start 30DS again tonight, so this will be perfect! I have gotten through Weeks 1 and 2 in the past, but 3 killed my shoulders and dissuaded me. Will have to modify so I can stick with it this time. Can't wait!
  • Will have to try these, they sound yummy :)
  • I use the light triangles as sandwich spread, or on squirrelly bread instead of butter. I will also jazz it up with some roasted garlic and red pepper seasoning. I also like the French onion for a bit more flavour.

  • Was big into WoW until about 2 years ago- met the bf and didn't have time for 10 work days, heavy raiding AND a social life... got Skyrim and was pretty hooked on that, bf and I got Diablo III when it came out, and that's been eating up my time, though we also just got a house, so the need to do yard and housework is…
  • One of my favourites is chunks of cucumber and tomato, tossed with balsamic vinegar and fresh ground pepper and sea salt. Can add some chunks of bell pepper and onion as well. Add a bit of crumbled feta to give some extra flavour (I find a little goes a long way!), and to add protein, I will toss in some chickpeas. Could…
