  • So I might as well just take a leisurely stroll instead of a brisk walk that causes my shirt to be soaking wet from sweat if it doesn't matter how hard I work as long as I go the same distance, right? Not trying to be smart here, just curious.
  • How can you expect to burn the same calories walking the same distance, if one day you take a leisurely walk and the other you "speed walk" with hand weights, even if it's the same distance. This just doesn't make sense to me. Obviously if I pick up speed, walk up hill and not flat ground, or even climb a mountain I would…
  • Thanks for confirming this. It does make me feel better. :)
  • Dumb question byt if my heart rate is accurately taken via HRM how can I be burning less calories than what it says I am (when I setit up I had to enter all of my information into the program) and also I know I could burn more if I didn`t hold on during the really intense parts for fear of falling but isn`t the elevated HR…
  • I am guessing the level of intensity of walking makes a difference. I wear a HRM and in 50 minutes while walking on an incline on my treadmill pretty much as fast as one can walk I can burn 500 calories (I am 42 and weigh about 172). Just picked some great (fast) music for my iPodand off I go.
  • Thanks. This is exactly what I needed to read today. :)
  • I would get a pregnancy test just in case. I felt the same way with both my kiddos. Even if you were using contraception, nothing is 100%.
  • Thanks for all the advice, everyone. Maybe I will try a small snack tomorrow before my workout and see how I feel.
  • I don't want to be a fat, unhealthy old person who shuffles her feet and is limited to the places I'm able to go. I want to be a strong, athletic, mature person who can go anywhere and do anything. I want to be that person who people guess 20 years younger than I really am. I want to be proud of who I have worked so hard…
  • I feel water is a so much better choice. Way too many chemicals in diet soda, specficallly aspertane. If I don`t drink water, green tea is my second choice. Here is a great article I just found today: http://www.seattleorganicrestaurants.com/vegan-whole-food/Pepsi-Coca-Cola-harmful-ingredients.php
  • I wonder if I`m the only one who doesn`t get bloodwork done on a regular basis. Would probably help me select exactly what my body needs. Thanks to all for the info.
  • What an absolute inspiration! I really needed to see this today. I am a "slow loser" and was beginning to get frustrated. Thank you SO much for the reminder that it shouldn`t be all about the scale. Great job, and congratulations on reaping the benefits if all your hard work. It really shows your dedication!! BTW, love…
  • LOVE this advice. :) A bit worried our Thanksgiving AND Christmas this year. Hopin' I don't fall off the wagon. lol
  • I bought a used one off of Craigslist years ago, and use it almost every day. Paid a fraction of the price. AND someone else did the hard part of putting the thing together. :-(
  • I log every single day (several times a day), and have been at it for a bit over a month. I LOVE having friends who both give and receive information and encouragement. Always looking for motivated friends. :)
  • Wow! So how do so many people lose so much weight on it. Is it more for toning? Also, any syggestions on a not-cheap-but not-expensive HRM? Thanks for all the great info. :-)
  • I keep thinking about the jeans sitting in my closet and how badly do I want to wear them again.
  • Happy birthday, and what a great post! Makes me happy to be 40-something. :) Shared with my friends, and will also be printing out as a reminder.
  • OK, how many other gals have husbands who "join your fitness mindset", doing nothing except maybe eat more fruit and the weight just falls off ? My hubby informed me this morning he lost 8 lbs so far (compared to my measly 4!). This is a guy who hits Burger King every other night after 8 p.m. with the kids, who doesn't…
  • This encourages me. I'm on day 23-ish and down only 4 pounds after working my butt off, sacrificing SO much good food (that the rest of the family gets to enjoy!), and been disciplined to always stay under my calorie goals. My eating habits and exercise has changed DRASTICALLY! I sure hope the pounds start dropping off for…
  • I am curious if there is a name for your itching/tingling problem. I have the same experience & never knew what it was. SO annoying. I'd love to read more about it.
  • Really happy you asked this question. I am thinking about possibly raising my goal weight. I am bigger boned and now 177, and originally planned for aiming for 135 but thinking it may be be too low for my frame.
  • Anyone else struggle who has kids and a husband who eat whatever they want, then you sit and wallow in your water and healthy snacks? Last night hubby and I were out to dinner with the kids and he decided on having a home made apple dumpling with icecream. He kept insisting I share it with him, even though he knows how how…
  • I'm really hoping some of mine go away with the dieting. If ya have them, you know how much of a pain it is to find a blouse that fits!!
  • I am 42, have two kiddos (ages 10 & 12), a hubby who pretty much thinks I am nuts for logging EVERYTHING and who pretty much eats what he wants. Less than a month ago I stepped on a scale and couldn`t believe my eyes (thinking when the heck did THAT happen??). Made up my mind right then to make a change - for ME (which is…
  • OK, really dumb question but a for instance: tonight I took the dog for a walk & when I logged it into MFP it asked for a time, and length of walk. I then synched (via laptop) and it was transferred into my Fitbit. Should I be doing the opposite? I always log all of my food into MFP, btw.
  • Totally makes sense, thanks!
  • If anyone's looking for more MFP friends, please feel free to send me a request! I'd love to have a bunch of 40-somethings in my friend pool who are in the same stage of life that I'm in. That stage being age 42, 2 kiddos (age 10 & 12), a hubby who loves to eat and who may think I'm nuts for trying to get back into shape…
  • Amen, sista! Thought I was nuts.
