  • I know what you're talking about, cause I have the same issue. That lower abdomen area is hard to lose. I went from 240lbs to 158 and I still have some fat in the same area. I can't cut much more and I'll just have to live with it or look for other ways to remove it. What's your height and weight?
  • Hi Mattripp, How's the cut going? I'm also lowering the carbs and calories. It looks like we're about the same size as well. My most recent cut started at 189lbs and my current weight is 177. My goal is 175 right now. I think the low carbs is working, but I also started doing intermittent fasting too. Have you tried it? If…
  • It could just be a normal fluctuation in your weight. Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day, with the same amount of clothes/shoes, after a visit to the restroom??? There's many factors. Although I find using a tape measure as a better form of gauging progress (especially with weight lifting), you may want to look…
  • Yes, I totally agree...you just explained it better than me. Thank you! I'm not sure why others want to put labels on people instead of helping them and answering the questions they ask. If you look back, I was just trying to answer the OPs question based on my own experience.
  • Since I don't think there are doctor's here, no one should be making a "medical diagnosis." Using BMI to label someone's fitness level is not very accurate. BMI considers me obese and I just lol.
  • If it was easy, everyone would be ripped. lol. I think you know what you need to do, now its just a matter of how bad you really want it. I struggle with similar motivation issues, so rest assured you're not alone. Set a goal and don't stop till you get there. I lost over 60lbs, so if I can do it, everyone can do it!
  • This quote is obviously not true for everyone. I'm 5'8" and 190lbs, but I don't think I fit this description. She more correctly states later, that everyone carries their weight differently. To help answer your question, my profile pic was taken at about 175lbs and I had somewhat visible abs. Since I lost over 60 pounds, I…
  • Starbucks puts this in many of their drinks to keep them stay thick longer.
  • I feel like this all the time! I'm not sure I'll ever be satisfied, but this is what drives my desire to continually get better. I'm 46 years old and feel better than I did in my 20s. So I've decided that maybe this isn't the worst mindset to be "stuck" with. Afterall, we could be couch potatoes, overweight, and in…
  • The golf pic shows my true before and after. The before shirtless pic was taken mid way through my 60 pound weight loss. I didn't take shirtless pics at my heaviest. Now I can't stop. Lol
  • Depends on your goal... if you want the full-body benefits, OHP is better. If you want front delt hypertrophy, then seat is just as good if not better.
  • Generally you want to cut about 500 calories from your maintenance amount. I'm 46yo, 5'7", 185, and I cut on 1700 calories. You'll want to play with your macros, but I try to intake about 185 grams of protein per day.
  • You weren't real clear on your goals, but whatever they are, you can go to the bodybuilding.com website. They have a ton of great information. You can check out their training site here: https://www.bodybuilding.com/category/training?tag=wrappermarkup
  • ^^^this...besides, your scale and the doctor's scale are not probably synced. I mostly go by how my clothes fit. Recently I went down a belt loop although the scale didn't change. #BurnFatAddMuscle
  • TDEE - Total Daily Energy Expenditure; Basically measures how many calories your body burns in a typical day.
  • I don't make a positive or negative comment unless I'm asked to give honest feedback because unsolicited feedback can be taken wrong. For example, I have lost 60 pounds, but now working on gaining muscle weight. I find it rude for people to say that I look skinny. They mean it as a compliment, but after I have put on 15…
  • I'm not sure what you mean by "skinny fat" if you think you're too lean. Skinny fat to me means that you're not truly fat, but you have a high BF% and very little muscle. Without more pics, its hard to tell which one you are. From your comments, it sounds like you cut too fast, did not do progressive resistance training,…
  • I've had the same experience. I've lost 60 pounds at it came off evenly throughout my body, not where I had the most fat.
  • Yes, especially if your goal is building muscle (hypertrophy). Your muscles grow during rest, not while exercising.
  • Depends on your ability and goals. Swimming and other aquatics exercises are good. You can also look up exercises that can be done in a chair.
  • If you think you have "fat thighs", why does it matter what your bf% is right now? It sounds like you feel you need to lose more fat. If I said you look like 10%, would you stop watching your nutrition?...If I said you look like 20%, would you watch your nutrition more carefully? You still look the same no matter what we…
  • Just load the largest diameter weight plates on the safeties, move it to the floor and add the other plates. It's also a cool weight to work yourself up to heavier weights. For example, I load the bar with a 45 plate on each side then move it off the safeties. I use that for my warmup set, then I add a 25 to each side and…
  • Thank you for that response. I truly understand your position and totally agree that more people could make the same decision you have made towards fitness. Unfortunately, they have not, for whatever reason. You may not consider yourself an Outlier, but make no mistake, you're one to be admired. Thank you for those nice…
  • I always follow my scheduled workout, unless I'm injured or I get there and just don't have it that day. Since you're not injured, I would suggest you go and give it your best effort.
  • Great comments everyone, but I have to ask, is being called an "Outlier" a negative or an insult to you? I take it as a huge compliment. As an amateur boxer over the age of 40, I am an Outlier and proud of it. There are not many people over the age of 40 who are skilled enough or physically/mentally fit enough to compete…
  • I just came across your thread and couldn't agree more. I used to click on those links about exercise recommendations for people over 40, and now I avoid them. I'm convinced that your exercise regimen should be based upon your ability and goals, not your age. A few years ago in my early 40's, I got into boxing. Most of my…
  • If "tone up" means lose fat and gain muscle, then the answer is no. You will not build muscle with HIIT. You need to start a resistance program (generally weight lifting) that contains progressive overload.
  • What's your goal?

  • If your goal is the same as me, muscle building, you can try what I do. I follow a push, pull, shoulders, leg routine...but I don't do the same exercises all the time. For example, on one push day for chest, I might do flat bench press, seat chest press, and cable flys. The next push day for chest I might do flat bench…
