  • I think it is something that should probably be avoided. Fasting every once in a while to save calories for a big event such as a birthday or christmas is one thing, but fasting on a regular basis could get dangerous if not done with supervision and strict guidelines. I would suggest caloric staggering instead. It has a…
  • A few ideas that might help. When I was struggling to lose fat, my friend recommended that I get on a treadmill at a steep incline and walk at a pace that kept my heart rate up but didn't put it through the roof, then I staggered calories throughout the week and I added some weight lifting. You could also eat smaller meals…
  • For me it was all about not letting myself drink anything else for a week. Just water. Kept a glass on my desk, a water bottle with me at all times, and throughout the week I started to realize that my water glass was empty without me realizing I had had any, same with my water bottle. You have to keep it within reach and…
  • Muscle and fat weigh the same, however, muscle is more dense and therefor takes up less space in the body. It is quite normal for an athlete to look smaller but weigh more than someone of the same size who looks bigger. I have had the same thing happen to me in the past four months. I lost 10 lbs and dropped a size but now…
  • I would suggest getting started with strength training right away. The thing with building muscle is that it will greatly increase the speed at which you reach your goal weight. Muscle requires many more calories to maintain than fat and when you begin losing weight without exercise, it is not fat that you are losing but…
  • Don't work out after work, work out before work. If you do it before then its done for the day, and you have already accomplished something by the time you get to work. Then when you get home you can eat and go to bed. If you work out after work you get to spend the whole day dreading it, finding reasons not to do it and…
  • Best thing to do is to eat the cals when you will use them. So eating in the morning when you will be active all day is best but its ok if you dont.
  • A work out is a work out is a work out. None of them guarantee results, but they are always a good thing. If you and your gf want to do it together, then go for it, have fun with it and make the most of it. The most important thing is your food.
  • Try a chocolate whey protein powder. Its got something like 23 g of protein for 140 cals. you can add peanut butter to it and make it taste like a peanut butter cup, you can add it to a whole bunch of different things too.
  • Try a no labels challenge for a week. Basically you eat veggies, fruit, meat, but nothing processed. Beans if you cook them yourself, just cut out the junk for a week, and you will feel better.
  • Technically the site will work without exercise however, exercise is what ensures that your weight loss is fat loss and not muscle loss. Muscle requires 9 calories to maintain where as fat only requires 4 calories, so when your body begins to deal with a caloric deficit it is going to break down muscle first because it is…
  • Best time to weigh is first thing in the morning, before eating or doing anything else. Pick one day a week and weight at the same time and on the same day once a week. Also Mondays I think are good because they let you know what you did over the weekend that you have to make up for during the week. But thats just me, some…
  • Drink water! Water is the best way to both reduce and prevent soreness.
  • Zigzagging or calorie staggering is when you calculate your total calories for the week and then break it down so that you have some days when you are eating low calories (1000-1200) and some days you are eating high calories (1500-2000). That way your body doesn't figure out whats going on.

  • Two things that will jump start your weight loss again are calorie staggering, and changing up your workouts. If you are not doing work with weights, add weights! Weight lifting is key for fat burning. Cardio is great but weight lifting ensures that the weight you are losing is fat and not muscle.

  • The best thing to do is just cut out all foods with sugar contents higher than 20%. The first few days will suck, but once you get past the withdrawal symptoms it will get better. Substitute fruits for sugary snacks, but keep it to no more than two a day. And just throw all of the junk in your place out. If its not in the…
  • if your not seeing the 6 pack its because your body fat percentage is still too high.

  • That is a really great idea, thanks. I rarely eat trail mix, so it didnt even occur to me.
  • It is a lot of veggies, a few fruits and some meat. You can also eat beans and unprocessed rice and nuts. With that you can make chili, stews and soups, and meat and veggie dishes.
  • A no labels challenge is a week of eating foods that are unprocessed, single ingredient foods. Fruits, veggies, unprocessed meats, dry beans. Nothing that has been processed past its natural state with the exception of being butchered.
  • There is no way to lose fat from specific areas, you can build muscle but it wont cause fat loss. The best thing to do is just lower your body fat percentage overall and that will cause a reduction in the areas you want to see a change in. Go for fat burning cardio, strength building and a lot of fresh veggies and lean…

  • I would suggest finding more foods that have larger serving sizes with fewer calories. So maybe instead of oatmeal for breakfast have eggs, or a low cal bread for toast with some peanut butter. Go for a lot of veggies. 6oz of baby carrots are only 70 calories, 1 cup of broccoli is 30 calories. That way you get more food,…
  • I completely agree. I am on a University campus and the gym is full of school athletes and really fit people. I used to freak out about going to the gym and I still feel like I don't quite fit. People really need to be encouraging to people who are in the gym and are doing their best. Don't make comments about them, they…
  • To have effective calorie staggering, you want to change the quantity of calories you are eating on a daily basis. So take your total calories for the week and break them down for seven days. For me that looks like this Monday 1200 Tuesday 1500 Wednesday 1800 Thursday 1200 Friday 1600 Saturday 1800 Sunday 2000 Eating back…
  • Another option is finding an exercise class that you go to a few times a week. Something you find fun. I like yoga, so I took a yoga class, after that I thought maybe a martial art so I took a Judo class, then I thought "climbing is a really good workout" so I took a rock climbing class. You could also swim, bike, hike,…
  • I never did the thirty day shred, but I know when I started my bootcamp we did weight movements that made me look at the instructor and think " you have got to be ****ting me, there is no way that is physically possible for me" but practice and bullheadedness got me through and 7 weeks later I am doing the movements well.…
  • Best thing to do is to just avoid those days in the first place. Once I get off track for the day I am pretty much done for, so I have found a bunch of ways to not get off track. I plan all of my food for the day, cook it and put it in a cooler. Every three hours I eat what I said I was going to eat and thats it. If I am…
  • I would encourage weight training, or something to build lean muscle but be careful of kettlebells because there are very few trainers certified to teach them and the proper use of kettlebells is key to an effective and more importantly a safe workout. Free weights are just as effective and more useful, in my opinion, than…
