  • I just rarely eat out, and plan a menu for the week that is mostly based on Cooking Light recipes. It's honestly been at least 6 months since I ate fast food. I thought maybe I'd be in for an 800 calorie meal, but 1,300! Wow, definitely didn't see that coming.

  • Beer just has to go with cooking anything on the grill.
  • We just made these patty melts last night and they were delicious. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/mushroom-provolone-patty-melts-10000002012768/ Mushroom and Provolone Patty Melts Your family won’t believe this comforting sandwich is light. For the kids, use beef broth instead of beer, and try mild wheat bread. Cooking…
  • Shrimp certainly isn't the most environmentally friendly seafood to eat either. I love shrimp, but I choose not to eat it anymore. http://www.enn.com/top_stories/article/40963 http://www.alternet.org/food/145369/shrimp
  • I prefer a cold beer
  • The real question is, why do you feel the need to tell people that you're trying to lose weight in the first place? Do you like it when they tell you that you don't need to lose any weight? I was having a conversation with a co-worker a couple of months ago, and she is probably a good 100-150 pounds overweight, when our…
  • I had two soft tacos from Taco Time last weekend. Almost 900 calories and they had me running (literally) back and forth to the bathroom all night. I also had a piece of Baklova (Greek pastry) that measured 1"x1.5"x2" and was 350 calories. Ouch. Definitely not worth it.
  • WOW. You rock. Great job!!
  • First, I make a list of meals for six nights of the week (figuring I'll eat leftovers for lunches and one night). Then I write down all the ingredients I'll need to buy to make those recipes. Then we do our shopping on Saturday or Sunday and we're done visiting the store for the week. It's amazing how much money this has…
  • I guess I just think it's important enough to know how many calories I spent walking from my car to the office, or walking around the grocery store on the weekend. What use is that info? Just justification to eat more? I prefer to just list real exercise as calories spent, and think of the rest as incidental activity. And…
  • All I know is that my wife forked out a bunch of money for one of those things, used it for about a month, and now it sits on a shelf. Personally, I don't think you need gadgets to lose weight. The food diary on here is more than adequate for keeping track of your calories consumed. IMO, you need to worry more about that…

  • Must be a vegetarian, eh? If we can just get politics into this conversation somehow, we'll have a doozy of a conversation going.
  • That's funny. How many times have we heard that eggs were terrible for you, only to be contradicted by the same people a year later saying that they're actually good for you? Or maybe just the whites? Or the vitamins and mineral are in the yolks? And don't even get me started on the whole butter vs. margarine debate.
  • I thought she just wanted some slaw for a side dish, so I bought the one on sale, not thinking that broccoli instead of green cabbage would matter that much. Turns out she wanted it to make Reuben sandwiches. But you're right, anything I can do to get out of grocery shopping on a Sunday afternoon is worth trying in…
  • haha...I'm with you there. To the OP, as the ancient Greeks said, "Everything in moderation". Use that as the rule for your food consumption and you can't go wrong.
  • The best pancake recipe I've ever come across, bar none, and they're made with whole wheat flour. Give them a try; you won't be disappointed. Whole Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes Yield: 6 servings (serving size: 2 pancakes, 2 tablespoons syrup, and 1 1/2 teaspoons butter) 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup whole wheat flour 3…
  • This is the key. Weight sometimes fluctuates, but remember that your goal is to reshape your body. If you didn't measure your waist, hips, neck, etc... before starting your diet program, do so now and use that as your key indicator of progress, not the scale.
  • My Mom always told me that exercise is good for you if your illness is above the neck (i.e. head cold, runny nose, sore throat), but that you should rest if your illness is below the neck (i.e. chest congestion, upset stomach, body aches, hacking cough). She was a nurse her entire career, so it's the advice that I follow.
  • I just picked up the "Mix and Match, Low cal" cookbook. It's pretty nice. It breaks all of the food into four sections, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks, and each recipe has the caloric intake for the dish with little tips on the side of the page. A very quick and easy way to match up some healthy meals based on the…
  • Actually, they're probably stoned. ;) And people who don't use their blinkers, or use them right when they start turning piss me off.
  • I tried it a couple of times with my wife. Threw my back out and ended up dealing with a sciatica inflammation for the next two weeks. I blamed it on the impact from all of her jumping jacks, but it was probably just me being out of shape and prone to back problems.
  • can you set up multiple profiles, so that I could use it one day and my wife could use it another? Also, is it worth the money? Does the tracking work well? The heart rate monitor? I'd like to hear some reviews.
  • You don't eat dinner? My guess is that you're probably underestimating the portion sizes of the food you eat and overestimating the amount of exercise. It's human nature and I've seen myself, my wife and my friends all do it. One of the best things you can do is to have a kitchen scale and some measuring cups and make sure…
  • I try to eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Pauper. Doesn't always work out that way, but that's what I strive for.
  • Well, starvation is certainly one way to lose weight fast. I prefer to do it through exercise and healthy diet choices personally, but if they want to starve themselves, I guess it's up to them. But you can't live forever on a 500 calorie diet, so what happens when they go back to eating the same crappy food that made them…
