  • You actually have been on a diet. All it really means, is eating a certain way. Your diet may have been meat eating, vegetarian, gluten-free, weight loss or weight maintenance. Now you are changing your diet a bit. Shifting from gaining to losing. You can eat everything you used to eat, just eat less of it. As for…
  • Are you trying to lose weight?
  • Sounds like you ate a lot and probably a lot of salty food. It's likely a mix of fat and water weight. If you think you have an underlying issue, you should get a physical and talk to your doctor. But I could gain 12 pounds pretty easily eating in restaurants and just eating big portions.
  • Not sure I understand your question. I make chili, beef stew, tacos, stir fry etc. I don't think of any of them as plain. I use the recipe function here and enter each of the ingredients, estimate the number of servings and then log it. This is especially helpful when I portion out the extra that I take to work for lunch.
  • You don't have to give anything up. But find out how many calories you need a day to lose weight. Find out how many calories you're actually eating. And then go from there. This totally works. But if you are/have been gaining weight, you are taking in more calories than your body needs. Exercise is good but most people who…
  • I live in Illinois and my husband and I drove up to Wisconsin yesterday and did a four mile hike in Kettle Moraine. It was GREAT cardio! Don't let the winter derail you! Congrats on your progress so far!
  • I'll add you! I'm 52 and have a lot of luck with mfp!
  • This past week I have had spinach, bananas, tuna, whole wheat bread, AND pasta, cake, candy and ice cream. I am easily tracking, logging and losing. Find out how many calories you need to consume to lose weight at an appropriate rate and then eat that number of calories. Nutrition is important but so is living your life!…
  • I would play a private game that my mom didn't know about (because most people really don't want to be part of your "eating plan.") and eat lightly every chance I got. So if your day starts out with breakfast at home. Buy your mom some muffins or bagels, serve them with yogurt and fruit and just eat the fruit and yogurt.…
  • I'll add you...but I have to say that you look fit and healthy in both pictures! Welcome to mfp!
  • Yikes! Thanks. Not my cup of tea!
  • what are bcaa's?
  • If you are planning to try for a baby and you've heard that this method of eating (not a guarantee that you'll lose weight) could derail that, I would firmly advise against it. Especially the most extreme part of your plan. Talk to your OB and do more homework.
  • Geez, at 84 do whatever you want! You deserve it! Unless you have serious health problems that will be ameliorated by losing weight, I would just enjoy your life!
  • You say that you don't know how to cook/eat healthily. What do you like to eat? Most anything in moderation is healthy but obviously some things provide more nutrition. Here are some foods I like to have on hand: canned tuna, old fashioned oats, fruit, cheese sticks, fiber one bars, greek yogurt or kefir drinks, peanut…
  • As a person who once was in her 20s I can sympathize. I have a few suggestions...first of all pick one night where you'll eat a few wings or fries and a beer or two. Plan ahead for that day by eating lightly up until you go out. Second of all, as someone else suggested, try steering the group to something active (bowling…
  • Sometimes I lie in bed in the morning and I think to myself, "I feel thinnish and kind of hollow. Light even. I bet I've lost at least a couple of pounds." NEVER HAS HAPPENED ONCE! But, in all seriousness, if I log correctly and stay within my goal, I lose weight. Slowly, but surely!
  • Congrats on the weigh-in! And when you go shopping, be sure to get things you like!
  • Are you trying to lose weight?
  • I love that you understand how you got where you are. And that you're changing the direction of your life. It's obviously necessary for your health but I guarantee that you will feel so much better, both physically and emotionally! Remember that it isn't always easy and that it won't be fast but start thinking like a…
  • Yes. For example, you might finish eating on Monday at 6:00 at night. Then you next eat food at noon the next day. I find that difficult to do most days so I prefer 16:8.
  • Mine is 390 calories per serving and my "loaf" makes four generous servings.
  • Don't let your age be an excuse. I have found it easier to lose weight after I was 40 and still find it easy at 52. But you have to move and eat less. As we age, it's easier to be sedentary and to eat more. That's why it seems so hard. My husband is turning 50 this summer and is cranking away with weight loss. He walks or…
  • I haven't been doing it long enough and I'm not sure if I'd ever know about the cell repair etc. but I do feel good. I've been reading some interesting articles about it so i decided to give it a try!
  • I'm trying it, but more for anti-aging, cell repair, give my body a rest effects. I am also restricting my calories and that's why I'm losing weight. It is a helpful tool if you like big meals but IF, in and of itself won't make you lose weight!
  • Well sometimes. I told MFP that I wanted to lose .5 a pound per week. When I eat a couple hundred calories under goal, I'm on pace to lose 1 pound a week. That's still a safe (though less conservative) plan. Also, if I eat a couple of hundred less than goal, then I could go over by a few hundred a couple of other days. I…
  • Instead of a cheat day, why don't you give yourself 100 or 200 calories a day to eat something you feel is a treat?
  • At least 1000. Have you ever eaten at the fast food Chinese place, Panda Express? If you get fried rice, chicken and string beans and a spring roll, you'd be a little under 1000 calories. Food from a regular Chinese restaurant is probably comparable but it's hard to know. Anything breaded is more calories obviously and…
  • I agree with most everything posted above, but I'd also add that maybe you eat below your goal but the next you eat above your goal. Average it out over the week! But mostly, make sure you're logging correctly and honestly!
  • My suggestion for your husband problem is to obviously give him bigger portions and then in my house, I would give my husband a starch that I didn't love. He likes potatoes and pasta more than I do so I could eat a small amount and he'd eat a big one!
