Omelet with some fresh, frozen or leftover veggies and some leftover meat is a really easy meal. My go to when I'm lazy is grits with veggies (and meat). 1/4 c grits (the quick-5 minute kind) 1 c water (more or less depending on taste) 1 c frozen veggie of your choice (I really like chopped spinach or green beans) 2 tsp…

For me, it's the fact that I worked hard to lose the weight I've lost and I want to keep it off! I feel better inside and also feel more comfortable in my body with the weight off. I regained about 10 of the 30 pounds I lost (due to poor choices and eating my feelings), so I'm now working on getting those off again. I keep…

Log it as walking, 3mph. It'll potentially be under what you actually did, but as you try to underestimate that'll be fine. If you had a heart rate monitor on, you could use that as a your calorie burning. Nice job hiking!

It isn't "bad" per se, but when compared to the nutrients in whole grain (and true whole grains, with whole grains in the ingredient list) breads, it is lacking a bit. But eat it if you like it and it fits in your daily calories. As many people around here say: IIFYM (If it fits your macros), go for it!

Definitely your blood pressure should be down if you are feeling better. I have been dealing with acid reflux since I was about 10. While I wouldn't say to rush to medicine, it can help. For me, no matter what I do, every 6-12 months, my acid reflux starts acting up again. I take a 2 week course of Prilosec OTC (or…

There are ways to get your chocolate fix without resorting to M&Ms! Try some dark chocolate. There are a ton of recipes for lighter versions of decadent desserts. You can make a brownie in a mug (so only one serving). Find ways to get your chocolate cravings taken care of within your diet - plan it into your day, so you…

Maybe try updating/making healthier some of their favorite dishes. Mac and cheese (do with quinoa), lasagna (eggplant or zucchini as the "pasta"), tacos, chicken fingers, etc. Spaghetti squash and meat sauce (from scratch - that'd take some time). Or do meatballs - kids love to get their hands dirty! As a kid, I loved to…

It could just be you adjusting to the new meal plans. As for the going over of calories, plan out your meals for the day ahead of time - then you know what is left for snacks when you are hungry! It's also a really easy way to keep yourself on track. I always put in breakfast and lunch into my diary, then know how much to…

Frozen veggies are an easy way to buy vegetables in larger quantities without worrying about them going bad - and they go on sale pretty often! Oats are cheap and a great breakfast/anytime meal or snack. Dried beans, lentils, chickpeas can create some really easy meals that are healthy and inexpensive. One of my favorite…

What about boxing? Even just doing punches with your upper body will help and can get your heart rate up. Hula hooping. Going outside and jump roping. Yoga. Handstands (against a wall). Basic bodyweight exercises (pushups, squats, etc). Another suggestion is to talk to the apartment office to send HER a letter explaining…

I pretty much eat only frozen veggies. I live alone, so buying fresh isn't always a good option. They are the same nutrition, but frozen. Not good on salads (or eaten raw because they are soggy), but perfectly good in any dish you can come up with that is cooked.

I saw this recipe in Reader's Digest (http://www.healthychiceats.com/website/?p=3452). This looks about the same. Basically coat chicken in hummus and bake - it looks awesome and it's supposedly crispy too!

Eat a normal dinner. Keep it simple (lean protein and lots of veggies to fill you up), but eat. It will do you no favors to not eat dinner and then be starving tomorrow and overeat then. Go to the gym, but don't beat yourself up about it. Look at your weekly totals, not just your daily - if you are 50 calories under each…

I'm not a grad student, but I some things I do might be worth trying. Make big batches of soup, casseroles, etc on weekends (or use a crock pot) when you have more time in your house. Once it is made, portion out into lunch/dinner sizes and then keep in your fridge/freezer. It's always easier to know that you have food…

There is a program called Sit and Be Fit that is supposedly great - tons of it on YouTube. Also, you can lose weight just on a calorie deficit, and then add exercise back in when your foot heals.

I know what you mean! It's strange feeling bones and muscles you never knew were there. The good thing is you start to get used to it. Though there is one bone in my shoulder that always surprises me!

I eat the same things for breakfast. Either oatmeal or a half a bagel with PB. Weekends I sometimes mix it up. Dinner is where I am creative, usually based on the ingredients that were on sale at the store that week. I have a really easy standby dinner in case I can't think of anything else - protein (usually chicken) +…

You could do a quiche - tons of recipes out there. Basically eggs, milk, whatever veggies you have on hand. Bake at 350 until firm. I also make mini ones using the premade biscuit dough as the bottom in muffin tins. Tastes awesome, and super easy! Hard boiled eggs on a salad. Poached eggs. Scrambled eggs with tons of…

The reracking of weights incorrectly bugs me to no end! I straighten them all out because I can't seem to get a good workout in if I'm freaking out about them being out of place! Today, there were about half of the weights missing from the under 17.5lb section - not sure where they went. I told the front desk, they said…

Most of the subways are running downtown, including the 4/5/6 and 2/3. You can check on mta's website. They have a subway recovery map that shows what trains are currently running and what stops they are making. As for getting into the city, I'm not sure - I know buses are running, but you'd have to check the individual…

Exercise DVDs or YouTube videos. There are tons of work outs on bodyrock tv (google it for the actual website). For DVDs, if you don't want to spend the money before you try it, either YouTube the videos or try to check them out from your local library. Then search Amazon or other sites like it for the videos you do like.…

I'd say keep your normal routine. In the long run, skipping 2 days isn't terrible. Go for your Friday workout today and rest tomorrow. Maybe do a little bit extra today to make up for not working out for the last 2 days. And congrats on a new niece!

I do a kickboxing class (hitting pads with gloves and everything) that I love. It's outside for the spring and summer. I hate when we go back inside! I also play on a touch football league that has a game once a week. Though I have to say that I like strength training as well - it's fun to increase the weight. I prefer…

So it looks like you are doing awesome getting protein in! That's great. What you might want to do is try to add more veggies in. Pretty much any fresh vegetable tastes good roasted in the oven with a bit of olive oil (or even the no calorie spray stuff). At your height, you might be fine at 1200 - you are outside of the…

If at this point you are frustrated, then take a break! Switch over to maintenance calories, keep working out, and just let yourself breathe a little. The more you stress, the worse you are going to feel. Allow yourself a month or two month maintenance break, then switch back to weight loss mode. Also, take measurements…

Shrimp and grits! On the lower calorie side, spaghetti squash topped with sauteed shrimp and any other veggies of your choosing (like shrimp scampi without all the butter or the high calorie pasta). Boiled shrimp (with a bunch of seasonings like Old Bay or Zataran's in the water). Oh how I love shrimp...

Personally, I find it hard if not impossible to sleep if I've had caffeine after about 2 pm. (It really effects me). So I don't drink caffeine after then. If you are drinking coffee or soda or tea with caffeine after about noon, try cutting back to decaf and see if that helps. I find that I can keep myself awake by…

Just saw a recipe online for baked stuffed eggplant. I'm having it tomorrow. Though it isn't the quickest thing. Wash and dry eggplant. Cut off stem and halve. Score the fles. Brush with olive oil (or spray with no calorie spray). Bake at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes cut side up. Scoop out the flesh (leaving enough to keep…

That sounds right - find it in the database as skinless and boneless and input that.
