How do I log this hike?

I went for a four-mile hike today, probably averaging 3 mph (I started off fast but this kind of activity isn't my boyfriend's thing so we slowed down). It's Louisiana, so it wasn't exactly hilly, but the terrain was uneven with some slight elevation changes. How do I log this? I was going to log it as hiking, but the options MFP gives don't seem to be right for what it was. I wasn't climbing hills or carrying a pack. What is "hiking - cross country"? Should I just log it as regular walking, even though I probably burned more calories than that? Or should I trust a separate calorie counter and log it manually? I tend to purposefully underestimate exercise calories and overestimate food calories to be safe, anyways. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Log it as walking, 3mph. It'll potentially be under what you actually did, but as you try to underestimate that'll be fine.

If you had a heart rate monitor on, you could use that as a your calorie burning.

    Nice job hiking!

My Fitness Pal has an exercise entry already built into the database 'Hiking, cross country'. Use that, because that is what you did. :-)

There is another 'Hiking, climbing hills' entry, which is probably more vigorous than what you did today.
