  • So glad to find your post because I am starting back and getting refocused on losing weight again, so I know how you feel! Last time I lost almost 40 lbs and gained much of it back. I think kshama2001 has it right, the most important thing is to be in calorie deficit. The type of diet is a way to get there. I try to be a…
  • Moe's Guacamole comes in single, 100 calorie, serving sizes which I like VERY much. I usually eat it spread on a WASA flatbread or Rycrisp.
  • This conversation has been delightful! I am a believer in CICO, but I eat low carb (more like low glycemic) because I can manage my blood sugar and cravings better this way. And I suspect that this also helps me discipline myself to plan meals for the week.
  • I had some knew pain some years back when I took up walking again. The ortho doc said that I had a very small tear in the meniscus, but he gave me a couple of pages of exercises, told me to do them at least 5x/week and start losing some weight. I did all of those and the pain got very much better. Those exercises were to…

  • There are plenty of rub recipes out there that are 0 calories ( you may have to watch the sodium content tho), Lemon and garlic are great seasonings. Definitely search for low carb or 0 carb chicken breast recipes and you'll find plenty of ideas out there.

  • Kettlecise? Is this a specific kettlebell routine? I exercise with kettlebells and TRX with a trainer who changes up the routine and focus each session. I've really come to love this since it combines strength and cardio work. Definitely work with a trainer to get the movements down pat and that you are swinging a bell…
  • I log kettlebell training as cardio and just put in a guestimate of 450 cal/hour. My trainer came up with that number. One day I'll wear a HRM and test it out.
  • Sometimes I wonder if people aren't talking more about low glycemic when they talk about low carb. Eating low on the glycemic index means that you are eating some carbs with a decent nutritional punch plus protein and good fat. Once you get the hang of it, you can get to a calorie deficit with alot of nutrition AND alot of…
  • It is summer now, so I have 6-8 oz of greek yogurt, a cup of fresh fruit (berries of any kind, peaches, nectarines, or combo) and a splash of milk to make it easier to mix up. Farmer's market fruit is already sweet, so no sugar needed. A quarter cup of Kashi gives it all some crunch. This is less than 300 cals.
  • Grapefruit and rosemary -- seriously tasty.
  • Does your instructor provide training other places? That may be an option. DVDs can be useful, although I haven't tried them myself. I have a Lauren Brooks one to try one day when I can't get to my regular kettlebell training and am told Andrea DuCane is another one to look for. Good luck! I love my kettlebell training.
  • Great oatmeal recipes in The Oatmeal Artist blog. Non-stop oatmeal variety.
  • Sukuma Wiki *This* is just amazing. I kept some of this in the fridge for quick warm up meals most of the winter. It is spicy, but really filling. You can also substitute the collards for kale or spinach if you prefer.
  • I think that the tender versions (baby kales, tuscan kale) are better to eat raw for salads and smoothies than full grown regular kale. That said, I really like kale. Braised kale with garlic and tomatoes is pretty tasty.
  • Wow, I wish MFP had a *Like* button, because I would have hit it for all of these posts. It is so reassuring to be in the company of people who get that the victories are not all on the scale. My victory this week is spending today trying on clothes from my closet so I can pack way the too big ones and get the just right…
  • Love that you swim 2 miles a week, Bruce! Back in high school I was on the swim team and often try to work out how to get swimming back into my exercise rotation. You've inspired me to research this again!
  • Outstanding effort! You look fantastic too. Congratulations on your achievement.
  • MFP is great for accountability, but it is also valuable to me for teaching me about habits. A few weeks ago, I was at a professional conference with lots of friends and colleagues there. I would have been on target for food calories for the day if I hadn't decided to hang out in the hotel bar that night. I drank the…
  • Hi Everyone! My name is Cassandra and I've been at MFP on and off for about 2 years or so. When I'm working the plan, the plan works. When I'm not working the plan, it doesn't work. So I've gotten recommitted to the plan and have lost 24 pounds since mid-January. My weight has been an issue all of my life -- work stress,…
  • I would add the recipe to the My Recipes section -- and be sure to be accurate about the number of servings your recipe makes. So if your recipe makes 4 flapjacks, and you eat 1/4 or one for a snack, you log .25 serving of your flapjack. I cook many meals from scratch -- and this is how I log them.
  • Very inspiring, Bill! I'll be joining you too!
  • Here's a great article on really interesting ways to prep food in good portions ahead of time: http://dailyburn.com/life/health/meal-prep-ideas-healthy-eating/
  • I usually cook over the weekend (spread it out over two days so I can get other stuff done), so I can package it up in the evening. This includes having a plan for snacks as well, that I can just pack up and go.
  • Braised cod -- this has olive oil, butter, lemon and spices and is really, really, really good: https://crankingkitchen.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/braised-cod/
  • Kalyn's Kitchen has lots of great low carb recipes, mostly tuned to a South Beach type diet. I find I have to pay attention to calories per serving and types of fat in some of these recipes, but I haven't cooked anything from here that wasn't completely delicious. Lots of great crock pot recipes! NomNom Paleo also has…
  • I love oatmeal and have a ton of overnight oatmeal recipes. 1. Rolled oats, reduced fat milk, a couple of tablespoons of pureed pumpkin and a good couple of shakes of pumpkin pie spice. Yummy and it lights up you house. 2. Rolled oats, coconut milk (the stuff from the fridge), dried fruit, garam masala. Yummy!
  • One of my favorite morning snacks (or even light breakfast) is avocado toast. I toast a whole wheat sandwich thin, then quarter a half of an avocado on each half of the sandwich thin. I mash that avocado up on the toast with some sriacha, add a little salt and yum. Change it up with small amounts (1 tsp) of olive tapanade…
