  • My sister always says that colds are "three days coming, three days with you, three days going, no matter what you do". As hollydubs85 said you can only treat the symptoms. What works for me is avoiding dairy, eating lots of hot peppers, ginger and garlic. I've found that fenugreek tea gives some relief, if you can stand…
  • I log nearly every day. Please feel free to add me.
  • What we sometimes do when my wife and I are in work crunch mode is to make a big pot of vegetable soup with some chick peas. We also make a batch of brown rice and lentils. The soup is always ready, and you can heat it up quickly. The rice and lentils can be eaten by itself, or can be quickly dressed up with things like…
  • I work from home too. Staying away from snacks is hard. On the up side, I can usually work in a walk or a bike ride during the day.
  • A salad with chumus. Two eggs cooked with scallions and celery greens topped with Yemenite hot sauce. Small handful of sunflower seeds.
  • Eggs on a bed of sauteed Swiss chard and garlic, with a bit of coarse salt and plenty of fresh ground black pepper.
  • Harold and Maude Casablanca
  • Leftover grilled salmon with a cabbage and cucumber salad. Filling and tasty.
  • Hi... You probably want to start with something manageable, so you don't get frustrated. Something like walking an hour a day and reducing your soda consumption by half. You'll start to see some results and can build from there. Good luck!

  • One of my go-to dishes when I don't feel like cooking is sauteed chick peas, with onions and parsley. I season it with cooked down tomatos (or prepared sauce), salt, pepper, lots of cumin. Add cayenne if you like it spicy. Serve with a little brown rice and a cucumber tomato salad. Filling, tasty, works OK cold as a…
  • Edemame. About 60 calories for a quarter cup snack. I like to eat the ones in the pod. It takes a little longer to eat them, and the pods give you a kind of visual cue. I find that I feel satisfied without eating very many. Very tasty.
  • Tonight's menu: All homemade - spicy vegetable soup, chick pea burritos, grilled tomatoes, cabbage salad. I have plenty of easy, healthy recipes... happy to share.
  • I often eat a hearty, spicy vegetable soup with just a bit of lentils or mung beans in it. Keeps me going for hours.
  • The chick pea soup recipe goes something like this... 1 large carrot 1 stalk of celery including the leaves 1 healthy thumb and forefinger's worth of fresh parsley 1 medium onion 3 cloves of garlic 2 cans of chick peas 2 small packages of tomato paste 3-4 tablespoons of hummus salt black pepper curry powder cinnamon olive…
  • Here you go... Here's the recipe for Curried Lentils. The quantities are all (very) approximate, but should give you the general idea. Ingredients: 4 medium tomatoes, chopped, or one can of crushed tomatoes. 2 large onions, chopped in large pieces 1 medium carrot, sliced 5 cloves of garlic, sliced 1/3 bunch parsley,…
