  • I have two scales, home and work. The only thing I wish for is for more items in the MFP database would have weight equivalents. "One slice" of pizza?? One "piece" of cake?
  • You can't direct where the fat loss happens. If the weight is going down, you'll get there.
  • I weigh and chart daily. I highlight each "new low" which sometimes are 2 weeks apart. After a week, I re-focus, be extra careful measuring portions. After 10 days I start cutting out the hard to know items like cole slaw that can vary widely place to place. The math works unless your doctor can give a hard reason why not.
  • What else is there? Truth is, even the move more part isn't necessary, like the professor who lost weight just eating junk at the convenience store.
  • I have sprinted and faded out many times. I think slow works best, 2-3 pounds a month, which is still 30/year and plenty of room to roll with the holiday/vacation/work late punches.
  • I received a Zip as a Christmas 2012 present, love it. It's on my belt 24/7. I no longer even change belts day to day, just wear my basic black with the Zip attached. I'm a weekend walker, typically doing 10-15 miles as weather permits. Almost hit 40,000 steps one day. I like how everything is automatic, walk by my home…
  • One more suggestion: get a FitBit. I wear a FitBit Zip on my belt 24/7 minus sleep, uploads to my PC via Bluetooth, and you can set it to update your MyFitnessPal account automatically as well. Move enough, and MFP will grant you extra budget calories. Even if you don't exercise formally, you might find it interesting what…
  • I would have said that 15 years ago, and I still do with one glorious exception: outdoor walking. In 2002, then on my city's Zoning Commission, I thought it would be at least useful to walk and see every street in our 9 square miles. I colored in each walk on an old zoning map, soon found I could easily do 5 miles, often…
  • This isn't advice, just my own situation. I find it easier not to snack at all than nibble on celery, 100 calorie snack packs, microwave popcorn, the office vending machines, and the cookie jar at home. I look and I quietly verbalize: no. Instead, I think ahead to the next meal or reflect on a good day I don't now want to…
  • Once every morning, after shower (i.e. naked), before breakfast. To each his or her own, but I have never understood why more information is bad, that ignorance from not weighing frequently is some kind of weight loss bliss. In fact, you need to learn just how much your body weight will fluctuate, even when you're being…
  • There is a lot of hype and gross exaggeration about gaining and losing muscle while dieting. This includes body shaping, toning, spot reducing your abs, etc. Sounds like you're doing great, don't change it up now to satisfy the gym rats.
  • We do some CostCo but as now empty nesters, most quantities are just too impractical. We have a few key items, like their Kirkland spaghetti sauce, surprisingly good for a house brand, vibrant tomato flavor. One annoyance is that they will have a spectacular chicken sausage one visit, then switch brands to kiddie-bland the…
