I have been trying to increase the water consumption with the logic that dilution and rapid excretion may help prevent the uric acid buildup- I'll work on this a bit more seriously! Thanks,

To me, I'm 100% convinced that Very low carb, moderate protein and high fat is the best way to go. You guys can argue until the cows come home but the scientific research has proved this to me, at least. My issue is with gout. I do keep proteins moderate, but maybe it's still too much?

Thanks for the inspiration!

The biggest challenge is to add back a lot of fat to the diet- we are brainwashed into believing that fat is not good. MyFitnessPal will give you the advantage of tracking the macronutients and you will discover that it is easy to cut the carbs way down, but hard to build up the fat number. The other mistake is to eat too…

about 4 months-lost about 31 pounds!

Good post! You outlined the problems well- the suggested solutions are vague, but I appreciate the effort. Thanks---

I know how you feel (not about pregnancy) about struggling to get under an intrim weight marker such as 200 lbs. When I was younger, I would just fly through this brrier, but now that I'm almost 59, I've stalled at 205 and feel like I'll never get under two hundred-so you have every right to be proud! Keep up the good work!

Just happened this morning- stlled at 207, then this morning- dropped to 204.8- no exercise, no drastic diet change-noticed an increase in urination last night and BAM! I'm becoming a believer, but I'm still at a loss to understand the bio-chemistry behind it?

I end up getting "addicted" to my low card replacement foods- Now I wrestle with- Almond Butter, String cheese, any other kind of Cheese, Almond Milk, nuts, dark chocolate.....the list goes on......I'm deathly afraid to make "fat bombs"...this will turn into my next trouble spot LOL

I have to say that, while I loved the idea and the theory of "IF" it really hasn't helped me in terms of weight loss. It may have even hindered it (and I welcome feedback on this). Usually I do about a 16 hour "fast"-from dinner time, into late morning the next day, with occasionally longer fasts ranging from 18-22 hours.…

Another good point- so this puts you squarely in the "urban legend" category. I kinda figured it was too good to be true, but I guess I want to believe!

Good point about worrying more about fat loss or inches, rather than total weight. I'm just wondering if the theory has any validity. Thanks for your post!

In the words of the most stubborn man who walked the face of the earth, Winston Churchill, "Never give up, never!" Every morning, when you wake up, tell yourselve 3X- "I have to live right, for myself and my child." Motivate yourself every single day! You recognize that you make excuses and give in- it's not easy but it is…

What a crock! Aside from paying for them, storing them, and actually shoving them down your throat and quite frankly, getting sick or bored- nobody in the right mind would punish their bodies with such craziness. Who puts this out?- reps from a banana company? Really.

Now I'm caught between making sure my protein is low enough to keep purines down, and too low to prevent catabolic destruction of lean muscle tissue thereby increasing purines- which to choose?
-
I have chosen to eat "keto" which is very low carb (under 25g/day), 25% protien- which I now intend to lower to 10% to avoid even the remote possibility of overdoing protien (under 75g/day, and the balance (85%) in fat-good fats such as olive oil and coconut oils.

Sorry- After a good deal of careful research, I firmly believe that sugar and grains are basically not handled well by the human body and are to be avoided. I don't really want to open a debate this point. It is just what I accept as the "Truth" But I really do appreciate your advise and suggestions. T hank you.

Thank you very much for a nice post and some good advise.

FYI---Atkins died because he slipped on an icy sidewalk and banged his head- the dying of his diet is au urban legend
-
i'm eating very low carb, which means no sugar, no fruits, no beer etc I realize that there may be a relationhip with sugar and gout, but that is my issue- I'm not touching sugars and carbs //

thank you for your suggestions. beans are both protein and starches- i.e. carbs, so I don't want to go that route.
-
Thanks- I believe that your recommendation to hydrate better is well founded. It is suggested in all I read, but maybe not emphazed enough. I do increase my water intake AFTER I experience problems, but maybe need to stay hydrated better TO PREVENT attacks before they start. Thank you.

As I stated several times- I am not eating high protien. I've learned this lesson a while ago. I am eating a low carb, moderate protien (under 100g/day) NOT alot of meat or shellfish. The ketogenic diet is a HIGH FAT det (which should not cause a purine proble) The nearest I can tell- if my diet becomes too low calorie- my…

I do eat very low carb (5%), and moderate protiens (20%)-the rest is simply made up of higher fat!

I know what you are saying- I learned the hard way that tuna fish is a BIG TRIGGER!!!
-
thank you guys for the input=please keep it coming!

eating low carb is actually causing the calorie deficit. It shouldn't, by itself, cause gout. I'm thinking that low carb is causing excessive low calorie, intake and then causing the fat breakdown that is causing high purine levels in the blood, which is then causing crystals to forming the foot joints and then…

I can understand why low carbing may cause low calorie intake and the body thinks it is starving and causes internal protein breakdown. How is high fat causing problems.
-
thanks- tart cherry is in my home remedy arsenal, along with organic apple cider vinegar-unfortunately not 100% effective- I purposely don't eat a lot of protein especially tuna which is a trigger thanks for your input.

He had no problem being rude but becomes ulta-sensitive when he didn't get a" please" --- what a wimp. He should have apologized to you. That's why I lift at home- the rudeness is rampant-too many self absorbed people who care little or nothing about those around them. It's even worse when people sweat all over the…
