I always just go with what my HRM says! Like WERGLUM mentioned, the machines dont take in account all the factors like the HRM does.

For my full marathons, I always ate oatmeal about an hour and a half before the run. Then I did a Gu Chocolate (with caffeine) every 45 minutes. I get side stitches, so I always be sure to do a Gu that often..most people dont need them that much. I've also done a promax bar before, or a smoothie. GOOD LUCK!

I couldnt agree more with NYMPH3T4M1N3 I didnt do a 10k race before doing my first HM (ive done 6 HM and 2 full marathons to date). Its all about the training. Hal Higdons plan got me to the finish line. I highly recommend it! You can make your training plan as long as you want. Stick to the plan, and you will get there!

The first 3 miles for me are the WORST. I know I just have to push myself beyond those 3 and ill be fine, but MAN some days its really mentally rough!

Honestly, if the 5k is easy for you, and its in the morning and you are doing your LR in the evening, I'd do all 12. If i were in your shoes and i only did 9, i'd feel like I cheated myself! Enjoy the run with your friend!

You could be over your calories for the day but then if you exercise, it lowers your net calorie intake..

Target or Walmart. They have inexpensive digital scales..basic one is pretty cheap and goes up depending on how fancy you want it to get..body fat etc.

My walmart has them...Also Ralphs (kroger) and albertsons have them. They are located in the "diet" section where the protein bars and things are located. Delicious! Skinny cow chocolates are to die for and come in a pouch so you dont have to count out the candy.

I love Pop Chips...small bag has a LOT of chips and its only 100 calories! tons of flavors too... For ice cream, skinny cow is delish, and they also have new candy out that is SO yummy!

I have PCOS and from all the research I have done, the best diet I have heard is a low GI diet. We are insulin resistant (so think like a diabetic) and you want to keep your sugars stablized. i guess you dont HAVE to, but i think you run differently on the treadmill than on pavement..its just what I noticed. If you dont want to calibrate each time, maybe just go with what the treadmill says and use your nike + when running outside? Calibrating IS a pain..

Have you calibrated your Nike + on the treadmill? I have Nike + and I also use a HRM..and i notice if I run on the road i have to calibrate the nike and then calibrate AGAIN when i switch to the treadmill. I use the calorie burn from the HRM and the distance from Nike :) just remember to calibrate and it should start…
