  • Love the breakfast taco idea with turkey bacon, hard boiled egg and hot sauce. Thanks for that! My usual breakfast - 1 cup of raisen bran with 1 cup of organic 1 % milk.
  • Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a few slices of whatever fresh fruit I have stashed in the fridge at work. The last two weeks it has been peaches because they are grown locally and soooooo good.
  • Great job - pat yourself on the shoulder for being so good to yourself. As others have noticed, you look so much younger and so mucy happier. I think with your attitutde you will be able to accomplish whatever you set out to do! Keep up the good work and update us with your progress.
  • At my annual exam in May, my blood sugar was high enough to suggest blood work which showed I am barely over the limit for a diagnosis for diabetes. My doctor prescribed no medications but told me I had to lose 10 pounds by my follow up visit in August. And I can sympathize with anyone who was diagnosed similarly because…
  • Obviously you ahve been to a doctor to receive your diabetes diagnosis. Ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist to help you with your diet. There are a lot of medical issues involving diabetes and you should be getting some expert advice about how to control your blood sugar and safely lose weight rather than…
  • Definitely going the right way for you! Congrats! It is definitely a bonus when you can actually see the results of all of your hard work.
  • I need to keep lifting (not a problem because i LOVE it) and lose more weight (it's going the right direction) before I will see the kind of definition in my arms like y'all are talking about. But my back and my shoulders are shaping up nicely so i have taken to wearing tank tops to yoga so I can flex my back and shoulders…
  • What about early in the a.m.? I see a lot of women down on the hike and bike trail between 5 - 6:30 am. I'm guessing its because their kids and husbands are all still asleep. No baby sitter needed and its free.
  • I'm carb counting, working with a nutritionist, on doctor's orders to avoid becoming diabetic. There aren't any foods I can't eat per se, but working with a daily guideline of 45 carbs for each of my 3 meals a day and two 15 carb snacks per day. One cup of cooked spaghetti is my entire carb allowance for a meal so I have…
  • Squat, deadlift, bench
  • I've had the flex for less than a week but I like it. It took me awhile to get it set up and synched but that is only because I am not tech savvy at all. I think it is pretty accurate. I got in mainly to remind myself to continue to add more cardio daily. I powerlift and do yoga but have really slacked off on cardio so I…
  • And I agree - the tech support has been very helpful.

  • I have only had mine for 4 days and I am very tech challenged so it took me a while to figure out how it all syncs with my laptop and my phone. For months I have known that I needed to add cardio to strength training and have not been able to motivate myself to get up in the early a.m. to walk. But I did it this morning,…

  • I don't have strong feelings about either option. But thanks for the kitten!
  • I'm in - love ab work.
  • Remove yourself from the source. Drink a big glass of water and go for a walk.
  • I really, really want a cupcake now.
  • Thank you for sharing your story. You are doing a great job. Thanks for being an inspiration to all of us.
  • I think your caloric intake may be too low. You should be able to eat three reasonable meals a day. Skipping meals is always a bad idea. When you skip meals, you are starving your body and it will hang on to every source of energy because it doesn't know when you are going to feed it again.
  • Congratulations on quitting smoking. Awesome! Do you have the ability to talk to a professional about your situation? There is something going on with that little voice in your head that all the willpower in the world can't fix.
  • In some ways I think that what I was eating was contributing to my lack of control. Once I started making better choices and carb counting (dr.'s orders), I started to just not feel as hungry all of the time. I do 3 meals and 2 snacks so i never get to the point where I feel like I am "starving" either. And I agree with…
  • A local grocery chain here sells what they call "Chocolate Crispy Cookies". Here is a desciption: "Many people don’t realize that our famous, top-selling Chocolate Crispy Cookie is flourless (gluten free), made with egg whites only (fat free) and chock-full of premium pecans. Delightfully crisp on the outside, chewy on the…
  • I felt the same way - sick and tired. My weight was getting the best of me. A recent diagnosis of borderline diabetes finally forced me to recognize that I was slowly killing myself. My doctor did not order an rx, she told me I needed to lose 10 pounds in 4 months and made a referral to a nutritionist for me. I'm carb…
  • Most people using mfp are trying to lose weight/get healthy for a variety of reasons. Me, I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, just over the line so diet and exercise are the only rx for me. I am working with a nutritionist who advocates carb counting and it is not just for weight loss, it is so my body doesn't…
  • Great topic! I just ordered a Fitbit and it gets here on Thursday. If anyone is familiar with the writer David Sedaris, he has a hilarious story about his obsession with his Fitbit in this week's edition of the New Yorker magazine.
  • Same here - went in for annual office exam in May, came home with dx diabetes but just borderline so no meds and my only instructions from my doc was to lose 10 punds before follow up visit in August. I got a referral to a nutritionist so ins. pays and based on my bmi she set my daily calories at 1400 and carb counting. 45…
  • My husband calls it "Whee Powder" because the first time I added to the smoothies I was making I used too much and we both felt like we had OD'd on caffiene. I'm carb counting and I'm a power lifter so Whey is an excellent way for me to add extra protien to my eating plan. Just go easy on it and don't over do.
  • Firehawk - I lift at Austin Simply Fit. Best in Austin, hands down.
  • A good reminder that we strive for progress, not perfection.
