  • It is always great to read posts like these. Exercise has many benefits - physical and mental health is top of my list. I geneerally start to feel low on my rest day! Of course the sceintific reason we feel great after exercise is that the body releases endorphins and tells the brain good things, giving us this "great to…
  • I was worried about transision for my first triathlon - these were good tips I got from seasoned pros as this is where you lose minutes that you have trained hard to gain: Write down what you need in your transition bag, then reveiw it a few hours later for stuff you have forgotten. Keep everything to a minimum. Plan your…
  • I am fairly new to the site - not found a triathlon group. There are however separate groups for running/swimming/cycling though. Maybe we shoudl start one for triathlon? there are quite a few triathletes on the site I am seeing. Meantime I'll send you a friend request and will help in any way I can. I only took up sprint…
  • Welcome to the addictive world of triathlon. I stenght training 2x per week for 45 mins before a mid-intensity cardio session. So I recommend you do strength training - although it course depends entirely on your body shape/frame/level of overall fitness etc. I agree you should seek the advice of a fitness professional,…
  • Actually, water consumption is more important than food consumption ... The human body will die of deydration before hunger. Depending on the air temepratures, without any water, death through dehydration will occur after 2 and up to 10 days, whereas if you just had water and no food, the body will last considerably longer…
  • Your body does need a rest day. Since I started getting back into exercise, I always have one rest day per week, exercising for at least 60 mins, 6 days per week I recently had 2 full time pro elite triathlete house guests and I was talking to them about this (amongst many toher things). They have a rest day each week -…
  • Pretty much all fruits, but I esepcially like tropical fruits (papaya (with orange), mangoes, pineapple, cococut) and berries - especially blackberries and strawberries. I love fresh watermelon juice. Oddly not that keep on apples...
  • Yes. I use it for cycling and running. It does slosh around a bit as it empties when running and my back does get a bit sweaty, but air temps are high where I live though. However it lets me focus on my training with minimal fuss when it comes to hydration.
  • I used to detox for about 4 weeks annually for 5 years when they started to become a mainstream thing in the mid 90's. The reason I kept doing them every year is that I did genuinely feel great after a few days, lost weight, had heaps more energy and felt the benefits for many months. My skin was amazing for example. The…
  • 1/2 cup porridge (sorry - I'm Scottish) semi-skimmed milk and water Microwave 1 min 30 seconds then add handful or blueberries or blackberries, a drizzle of honey and a spinkling of cinnamon. I can't get almond milk here, but I might try adding ground almonds tomorrow. Sounds delicious!
  • Interesting and practical idea but I think I'd feel like a dog or a cat with this. I always carry my regular ID and my insurance card in my shortsback pocket along with my cheap small pocket size phone. If I am involved in an accident I will just want the best possible treatment and I know I increase the chances of that…
  • walking, gardening and appropirately designed weight training. Bit more info can be downloaded here: http://www.nos.org.uk/~/document.doc?id=770
  • thats a great summary!
  • You'll get lots of different replies for this one! All depends on your metabolism and fitness goals etc... but I agree with the poster re eating more during the day when you know you are going for a high calorie workout. This is what I do on a tuesday as I have cycle race traning and running. Immediately afterwards I have…
  • sorry to ehar about your condition. I am unfamilar with your specific condition but my mother had hip joint issues for over 40 years - she did a combination of swimming and hydrotherapy exercise almost daily - all designed by her physio. I agree that you should ask a physio. You may also ask her about any upper body…
  • I dont know the names of the muscle groups, but definately thighs and especially your butt, plus your calves. I took up cycling 3 months ago and have seen a massive improvement - I have really shaped up, especially my butt - just in time for summer :-)
  • Completely endorse what Celo said. On Friday I am doing my 3rd sprint this year. Triathlon is a brilliant way to increase and maintain fitness - and it is very addictive - be warned. I am aiming for my first individual half ironman next year. Good luck - and enjoy the training!
  • I am sorry about your operation and wish you well in finding your balance in getting healthy.
  • All good then! My main source of carbs is though fruit, potato, sweet potato, oatmeal, brown rice and occassionally bread and pasta. On my rest day I try to eat very little carbs. By the way, here is an article that looks at the debate of carbs or fat in relation to exercise - the most interesting extract: if you need to…
  • You are absoloutely right and I fully appreciate this. I am not disagreeing with anything that has been said on Atkins. My main point is that Atkins is not for anyone who has a very active lifestyle. You simply can't be on a low card/no carb diet - I often burn up 2000 calories or more in one training session so therefore…
  • squats, leg curls with a swiss ball and running/jogging/walking.
  • I should have cracked one more run last week, but the pillow called louder on Saturday morning ... I next week I really hope to reach 40km!
  • Week 2 summary: Run Goal 40k - 31km done Ride Goal 60k - 81km done
  • Really intresting thread. All special diets have critics, advocates and sceptics and Atkins is no exception. I am glad Atkins works for so many people. Personally I could not live without carbs as I exercise for a minimum of 60 minutes per day. The human body was designed to be exercised, and people that exercise need fuel…
  • I read in a running magazine a few months ago that cinnamon and chillies help boost your motabilisim. I sprinkle cinnamon on my porridge every morning and try to use chillies in my cooking. I don't know if it has made a huge difference, but I am losing weight and shaping up thanks to a combination of diet and exercise…
  • 7 months ago I was where you are now. I followed a version of the c25k programme. what made a big difference with my running training and motivation was going to a weekly timed predictor run with my local running club. I set my time goal and distance, and I see my imprvement each week. Once I was comfortably up to 5k, I…
  • I eat it all the time - with fruit salad or I make a smoothie/shake after working out (adding ice and protien powder). also nice just with nuts and honey sprinkled over. For savory, add chopped mint and cucumber and use as a dip.
  • On a dive boat you see all shapes and sizes, and you see guys reactions to ladies that have had boob jobs. Most boob jobs are obvious, but it is clear ladies that have had them done have great confidence and figures to match. Boobs are a very big part of a girls feminine identity, so I think if you are not happy with what…

  • Well, I am not that l excited - but I am happy for the couple, just because they are in love (and I do believe they are!). For me the Royal Family are like a national family heirloom - gets handed down every generation. But they do a lot of charitable work and help promote all things British abroad, so they do have their…
