• Hello! I just joined this group after searching for some others who are hypo and are cutting out gluten from their diets. My Naturopath recommended that I cut out gluten to see if it helped with absorption of my synthroid and to resolve a number of other issues I am having (joint pain, brain fog, skin problems, etc.). One…
• OP - how is it going? Do you have any more updates for us?
• I know how you feel. When I started my weight loss in January, I was so frustrated by the fact that I was eating 1200 or less cals/day and losing almost nothing. I read that coconut oil can really help with your metabolism and with thyroid function, so I added it to my diet and started seeing results pretty quickly. I also…
• Totally understand where you're coming from. The mental fog at work is extremely frustrating - especially when you know what you want to say, but it doesn't come out that way, and people are trying to correct you on an issue that you understand, you just can't communicate properly. Everything ok with your levels? I find…
• By the way - on weekends I set an alarm on my phone to wake me up at my normal weekday time. I take the Synthroid and then go back to sleep. I find this helps for me because I love to sleep in on weekends and find that if I sleep til 10 or 11, I wake up so hungry that I don't want to take my pill and then have to wait an…
•
why won't he up the dose? (I'm ready for the whole other story)
Well, seems like I've fallen into the same trap as many people with thyroid problems. My doctor will only test for TSH and only when reminded. Even though I'm still in the first few months of treatment, she has only tested me post-diagnosis…
• I'm currently on Synthroid - 0.25mcg/day because my Dr. won't up my dose (whole other story for another day). I find losing weight is difficult and its a very slow process. My last blood work tested at 2.67 and my Dr. won't change my meds, even though I still feel hypo - so that might be one of the reasons that weight loss…
• Wow - amazing that you have the willpower to wake up out of a deep sleep to take the pill! You might want to try to take some water with the pill though, apparently thyroid meds require a full glass of water when you're taking it. I don't do a full glass - a couple of gulps and that's all I can handle. I read somewhere…
• Thanks! These are great ideas. I'm on Synthroid and have been working with my Naturopath to help with sleep trouble. If I took the Synthroid at night, would that cause any sleep problems? Since I've been tracking on MFP and going high protein low carb, I find I don't need to snack at night, which is a huge change for me.…
• That's a great idea! I have been leaving mine on my bedside table - sometimes I can't remember whether I've taken it or not. Thank you for sharing!
• Welcome! Weight loss and managing hypo can be so frustrating...I was also really happy to see there is a group of people here to get it!
• My little update on Coconut Oil: I started taking 1-2 tbsp/day a few weeks ago after my weight had not budged despite remaining within strict calorie count and fairly regular, intense exercise. I'm not sure if this can be solely attributed to the coconut oil, but I have lost some weight since that time (about 5 lbs). I am…
• I'm not sure what an Integrative Therapies doctor is, but I see a Naturopath who has helped me solve my acne issues. I had severe, cystic acne from 15 years old onward. The only thing that I have tried that is working toward actually curing the problem is managing my testosterone levels. My Naturopath gave me a supplement…
• Thanks Amanda! I will add you!
• I am also looking for some info from people who are taking it. I just started this week with 2 tbsp a day. My problem is that it is throwing my food records out of whack because of the fat content. I'm not sure if I should ignore the fact that I'm over my recommended fat intake per day. Feeling great on the c-oil though.…
• Wow - I don't know a single person who is grateful for a slow metabolism! What a jerk thing to say! Some of your symptoms could indicate hypo, but some of your symptoms can indicate hypER. (Anxiety, restlessness, etc.) From what I know, your thyroid levels are pretty high, even though they are in the "acceptable range" of…
• I would be careful increasing dosage without doing a blood test to see where you're at with your levels. How long have you been on the 200 mg/day? You just need to make sure you don't throw your body into hyper - mode, which can be dangerous.
• I read recently that depending on what your current weight is, you should be taking a certain amount of coconut oil. My understanding was that if you're over 145-150 lbs, you should be taking 3 tbsp/day. Over 175 is 4. Not sure what your current weight is, but you may be taking too little. How have you been feeling since…
• Oh dear...if this is true, I'm in trouble! I make homemade almond protein bars and eat them every morning. I'd really like to know if I should be avoiding almonds.
• Thank you everyone! I knew that fellow Hypos would understand where I am coming from with the frustration of doing everything you can think of and not getting any results. I actually weighed myself again this morning and am down 6 oz. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when you stay stable at the exact same weight for…
