  • Update: Almost 20lbs down since my first dose in early May. Loss is slow, mostly bc I don't exercise so I can't complain too much. I want to lose about 20ish more lbs to get back to where I feel comfortable. I don't have any side effects except for feeling tired a lot- which is why I don't work out. I want to ramp up to…
  • I started on .25 on April 27th. I didn't feel 'much' except that my appetite was immediately reduced. I had gastric sleeve surgery in 2012, so I rarely felt hungry, but I felt 'empty' and in recent years have felt very snacky with cravings off the chart, especially at night. The weight gain has remained constant since I…
  • Second to the last guy i dated from OKCupid never showed up for a date. Never answered my calls, emails or texts. Just disappeared. Two weeks later, he sent a random message-- "I didn't feel like you liked me enough and I didn't want to go through that BS." He tries to contact me here and there and every SINGLE time it…
  • I have been in maintenance since 2014 (though I have lost about 30lbs since hitting my original goal). I have dated off and on since having surgery. I was open with my surgery right away, since my eating habits would give me away every time. I still don't eat much, still take most of my meal home if I eat out. Every once…
  • IT can be frustrating. I also hate that there is not a widely accepted standard operating procedure regarding guidelines. One surgeon says this... another surgeon says that... this nutritionist says this....another says that. It makes it hard to give advice because what my surgeon says might totally clash with what yours…
  • Everyone thinks they'll be the one person the Sleeve doesn't work for. I was that person too. But it worked for me. It can be scary.. but it's a helluva ride. At this time, you need people around you who are positive and supportive. If people insist on telling you horror stories, distance yourself from them. It's going to…
  • Gum is no problem. Docs don't recommend it at first because we swallow a lot of air. I chew about half a piece of sugar free gum, or I have a sugarfree breathmint. As far as interval eating.......I never ate every 2-3 hours. I don't have a schedule that would allow me to stay on that kind of track. I had a protein shake on…
  • I'm terrible at making myself do what I just don't feel like doing. But sometimes you've got to kick your own behind and force yourself to do it. It's only X minutes out of my day, then it'll be over and I can chill. In the winter it's hard to get me to the gym... if I don't go on my way home from work, it's not happening.…
  • Some practices just have their creature comforts. Aftercare for RNY differs from the sleeve in slight ways. They aren't used to the Sleeve since it's considered fairly new. You want a team that's going to support your decision so they can get on the boat or you can find a sleeve centered practice. I'd be concerned about…
  • Happy to report that I am sitting under goal at 163. I did hit 159 briefly, however that was following a terrible cold and I wasn't eating much. I bounced back up. I'm looking at setting a lifetime range in 2015... 140 to 150.... so that's what my next year will be about!
  • I lost a LOT of band size. Didn't go down in cup size, but it really varies depending on the circumference of your chest. I was wearing a 40H or 38G presurgery. Now wearing a 32G, but I was SWIMMING in my Gcups before sizing down. For many people, the breasts do shrink. By how much just depends on your body. I agree with…
  • I had VSG on December 21, 2012 with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez at EndoBariatric in Piedras Negras Mexico. I am 5'3" HW: 273.3 SW: 250 CW: 170.2 GW: 169ish I started out in a 22-24 pant, 18-20 dress, 7.5 shoe Currently 6/8 pant depending on the cut, 4/6 dress, 6 shoe VERY happy!
  • I AGREE! Don't buy a ton of stuff, but DO get samples from different companies-- most makers of protein shakes will send you a sampler package for a nominal fee. Post surgery, you'll need to try some to see what your body will tolerate and what you will like. If you buy a huge tub of something and don't like it post…
  • I think slow is relative. I did a lot of research and followed a lot of people who'd had surgery and I STILL had unrealistic expectations of weight loss. We won't lose 10 lbs a week! Most of us won't lose 10 lbs a month. But you will see steady losses month over month that continue long after you would have given up on…
  • These sound like scams. We are already losing so quickly... I just don't see the need to put out extra money for something like this.
  • Both are extremely effective. I believe surgeons need to concentrate more on body issues (like GERD, as mentioned) and also individual patient physiology and not just how much he thinks a person will lose and in what amount of time (because this is more a reflection on him and his success rate, not your health). If you are…
  • Hi all! I am just about 22 months out from VSG. It was the BEST thing I could do for myself and I have no regrets. It's WORK. It can be TOUGH. But I also LOVED watching my body change and adding more things to the list I can now do that I couldn't before.... like RUN. Any questions, I am happy to answer!
  • There's nothing wrong with needing a boost. If you need it, find the best option for you! Sometimes I have a cup of coffee, sometimes I use Amino Energy Blend. I also work out after work and my sleep hasn't suffered. I start drinking around 4 or 4:30 and am working out by 5:30 or 6. A nice burst of energy, I work, I go…
  • I don't log food. I use MFP to track my weight and exercise. Foodwise, I stick to some simple philosophies and found that the tedious task of guessing and/or weighing food to come to some kind of rough estimate that may or may not be correct to be discouraging to me. I've done fine without counting.
  • Ground turkey vs ground beef, the turkey will be lighter, less dense than beef. And I am almost sure they use fillers. Don't quote me on that but... almost sure.
  • Yeah at three months I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted (within the guidelines) and supplementing my protein with daily shake. I love laughing cow with slices of cucumber!
  • There are people years out who can't eat rice. It's not recommended for us, esp at 3 weeks out. It's a grain and it will expand in your tummy. At 3 weeks out your tummy isn't ready for rice As well there is typically a 'pause' at week three post surgery. You've gone through a traumatic experience and lost 24lbs. Let your…
  • We pears have a tough row to hoe. I might suggest following the advice to focus on strength and resistance training to trim up your hips and thighs, in addition to cardio to burn fat. Something like pilates (or the FIRM has a dvd called Sculptilates which is a combo of Yoga and Pilates with a resistance band. My hips,…
  • Really not this easy. It really isn't. Not having them there doesn't make you NOT want it. Doesn't make you not go out and get it. I would not recommend the band for binge/purge, though. WLS is not much of a cure for an eating disorder.
  • This is a standard approach for Bariatric Centers. They want your money so they are quick to tell you to gain so you can qualify then take it off on your pre op diet or in the big drop after surgery. I wouldn't really recommend it, but if the option is to do that or pay $20,000... Some people are desperate enough to do it.…
  • Hello everyone. I'm Dom or CurvyJ and I had VSG on December 21st, 2012. I'm just over two weeks out and excited about how this year is going to turn out. Certainly better than the last few with a great outlook on life. I'm still getting used to my tool, learning what's too much and what's not enough, focusing mainly on…

  • I don't understand the advice to use an insult as motivation. That is not motivating or inspiring in the least. Call it what it is. A rude comment that should be completely disregarded and not be used to detract or distract from the hard work you have committed yourself to.
  • This is not a compliment. It should never be taken as such. It should motivate you to do nothing but avoid punching such a rude person in the neck. Keep on keepin' on.
