  • Wow - amazing progress! Well done. Keep up the fabulous work.
  • I had been overweight since I was a teenager and lost 108lbs over a year when I was 55. I have just turned 57 and have been maintaining for about 14 months I hope that gives you some encouragement for what can be achieved for us over 50s
  • You have done an amazing job- well done! I thought I would post my progress shot. Hopefully it will work I reached my goal over a year ago and have been maintaining since then. No bariatric surgery - just diet and heaps of exercise.
  • I have used both the older and the current fitbit to help me maintain my weight and it has been incrediballly accurate for me, keeping me spot on where I want to be for the last 13 months.
  • Thanks people- I certainly will be asking my surgeon - but it is great to hear from people who have been through it themselves:)
  • Well done Deb- from another Deb aged 56 and I have been on maintenance now for a year. Many people think it is near on impossible after 40. Clearly your evidence shows clearly that this is not the case:) Well done!
  • I followed the MFP recommendations and from memory started at about 1650 calories per day when I was at my heaviest ..... As I lost weight it gradually adjusted to only 1200 calories and then for my last 10lbs I moved up to around 1400 net calories and lost very slowly. I have been on maintenance now fo a full year at net…
  • People definitely treat me differently - although I am somewhat appalled to hear the anti fat jibes that are said freely and frequently behind the backs of others who are still carrying around excess weight. I work in an environment where people didn't know me when I carried my extra 100 lbs - so people don't feel the need…
  • A year for me and I have managed to maintain for almost a full year now.
  • If would start doing short bursts of walking - whatever you are comfortable with and do as many of them as you are comfortable with. There is no reason exercise has to be done in one session. A few years ago here in Australia there was a health promotion campaign that suggested walking for short periods of time frequently.…
  • Good on you! You look fantastic.
  • I had never been thin - and am not really thin now- but well within the acceptable zone for my height and build.Thankfully, thanks to MFP, I am now where I need to be and maintaining now since May of last year. You can do it! It is achievable- just stick with the plan and I'd you fall off the horse at all, just dust…
  • Oh yes- so cold most of the, time- the best benefit being that I recently felt really comfortable during a prolonged heat wave. I Sussex it out NAND it appears that it generally takes at lease 2 years to get the thermostat back to normal. I am only. 7months so far so am already dreading the mnext winter
  • Congrats - that truly is a job well done!!
  • I am 5"5" and 149lbs - and carrying between 13-18 lbs of excess skin after pretty significant weight loss-- so taking the middle road - the equivalent of 134lbs. I have been maintaining pretty well since April of this year based on 1590 plus exercise calories. I tend to burn around 500 at least each day so am eating around…
  • Well done to you and I have to say you are looking really good at the moment. You say that you feel good where you are -so I would be planning to maintain from where you are.:)
  • I am not 5"10" - but have to say 135 sounds way too low to me.
  • Hi- I have been maintaining since May and generally net around 1600 per day. I exercise at least an hour each day and have actually lost a kilo or two since reaching maintenance . I am 5'5 and weigh 149lbs - but unfortunately am carrying a lot of excess skin which my doctor estimates at around 14lb- so am the equivalent of…
  • I don't drink a heap of it - but will drink it when I feel like it - possibly a can or two a week. It hasn't interfered with my weight loss at all.. I am now maintaining and have been doing so since the beginning of May this year

  • It worked for me and continues to do so while I am in maintenance - I lost 99lbs and since then have been maintaining since May- in fact I have inadvertently lost a bit extra weight since starting maintainance.
  • I am 56 and have managed to reach my goal by losing 99lbs
  • Please see a doctor- only they are equipped to give you medical advice. I have experienced similar problems but they are unrelated to change in my diet. I suffer from Crohn's disease. I am not suggesting that you have the same issue - just that it is beyond the scope of MFP to determine your problem. Good luck with getting…
  • I am 56 years old and have lost 99lbs in a little overs a year - so I was 55 when I started and reached my goal weight a week before my 56th birthday. The visuals are clear in my profile pic
  • It took me a year to lose around 93 lbs and I then went on maintenance that I am still adjusting as I have lost a further 6 lbs since mid May. As much as I would like to see the 100 - I really don't want to lose any more weight - so I am still doing the juggle. Ha - I can't believe that I have actually posted that last…
  • Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only hope that those who don't know which one is which actually take the time to read this thread. It drives me crackers!
  • I moved into maintenance in mid May and just changed my goals on MFP - I have actually losy a couple more kilos since then so have had to make sure that I balance my days of just over and under so as to maintain weight as I don't want to lose any further weight. Our tendency is to aim for under and avoid overs so now when…
  • Congratulations - you have worked so hard and the credit is all yours- well done!
  • Juice them and freeze the juice
