  • the only place where i want lots of fat is in my mouth.. :)
  • :) i know exactly what you mean...
  • bugger..that sounds good.. :(
  • absolutely spot on!! on a couple of occasions, i have actually lost weight when i increased caloric intake (specifically, fat). i think this has to do with the thermogenic effect of fat metabolism & the science on this is still in its infancy.
  • any nut...drives me nuts.
  • morbidly obese all my life. lost 80lbs in 10 months. everyone has indeed STFU..tbf, no one was giving me grief in the first place. most were skeptical in the beginning. not any more... :)
  • IIRC, Drs.Phinney/Volek advise to stay away from strenuous exercise for the initial 4-6 weeks into keto. amount of time varies from person to person and partially depends on fitness levels. keto-adaptation is a stressful time for the body, as physiological responses start to alter.
  • Spot on KnitMiss. Honestly, the more you learn, the less you know. the science on this is still in flux, i think. i've decided, so long as the weight keeps coming down & for me (being a diabetic), my sugar levels are under control, i will keep one eye on this trying not to worry too much. in fact, in the spirit of…
  • Absolutely. There is very little literature on this.I do not think that I have FH or that I am a hyper-absorber as my cholesterol though elevated was around 250 before starting LCHF & I always consumed a HC/HF diet. As I mentioned earlier, the TC/HDL ratio is worrying. All the people I quoted make the statement in passing…
  • Thanks for that wabmester!! Great read!! I do like Peter Attia because he is very honest & does admit to not having all the answers. fantastic!! :) Once again, thanks for that resource. Based on that, I really, really should get my Apo(b) tested and take it from there... As things stand, I consume approx 35gms of saturated…
  • Correction. What I should have said is that low take-up of LDL causes an increase in LDL-P concentration.
  • Main thing is my A1C that fell from 8.6 to 5.6 within 4 months. My fasting blood sugars were in the teens & post prandials were regularly elevated between 20-35 which is crazy high & this went on for more than 10 years. FBG this morning was 5.5. :) Have not seen post prandial past 7.5 in about 3 months. My BP was around…
  • Although I salt food liberally (or so i thought), about 3 months into keto, I started getting frequent palpitations. For about 3 weeks thereafter, i supplemented with a small teaspoon of good quality salt in water every morning. Palpitations duly disappeared. I still salt liberally and anytime my heart even dares to skip a…
  • I needed to lose a LOT of weight, so i fully committed to get into first nutritional, then optimal ketosis. bought a blood meter. it has proven to be an invaluable tool with proper serum BhB readings & it gives me physiological certainty that i have attained my goals. Great morale booster to see ketone levels hit 5.0.…
  • problem with nuts?..unfortunately, yes. i eat too many. addictive. drives up my blood sugar insidiously.
  • i avoid the main boards like the plague. sends my blood pressure up higher than a carbohydrate diet ever did...
  • For me personally, French Pressed Yirgacheffe..black. My sister swears by bulletproof coffee though. First thing every morning. Keeps her going all the way through to dinner.
  • I posit that for the majority of T2 diabetics, this Way of Eating is the only viable option in the long term to avoid progression of the disease and its related complications.
  • that 4 egg omelette looks spectacular!! :)
  • I am with Nill4me. Keto Clarity by Jimmy Moore/Eric Westman is a good beginners guide. Phinney & Volek are phenomenal. The books delves into the science of ketogenic diets.
  • just a suggestion. i did a complete blood work-up a week before keto & every 2 months since. Lipid breakdowns/ratios (HDL, LDL, Triglycerides), Liver markers (ALT,ALP,GGT), Inflammatory markers (CRP & ESR), HBA1C (sugar average), Kidney marker (Creatinine), etc. Not a necessity but interesting to monitor & chart your…
  • I was a raging uncontrolled diabetic. :) Test my blood sugar regularly. A few months after starting LCHF my levels returned to normal. I have now had non-diabetic readings for about 5 months. I am still diabetic BUT no longer raging & uncontrolled. I also test blood ketones regularly to optimize my LCHF. I used to get…
  • Hi DitsyBlond. That's roughly where I started. Great advice on here already. Read and absorb as much as you can & start with a plan in mind. Be prepared. The first few weeks can be rough but stay the course. It gets much easier soon after & you will LOVE the gradual but constant weight loss WITHOUT the hunger. Fat IS Your…
  • Stevie Wonder - Overjoyed
  • body re-composition..happens in lchf/keto
  • i think Dr.Phinney recommends 3-5gms per day through home made bouillon. i did not do this because i had borderline hypertension and the occasional mild edema but mostly my "fear" of excess sodium after being told for many, many years that salt is bad. in addition, two blood tests in 2 months showed me within low "normal"…
  • i have been losing weight gradually but consistently in the last 4 months. still morbidly obese and far from my target. as i understand it, the closer you are, the more difficult it is. my two cents worth. this last couple of weeks i actually put on a couple of pounds. the only change was me snacking on about 50gms of…
  • I'd rather watch Allison Williams.. :)
  • i gather, the general consensus is that you should not worry about sugar unless (or until) you have a medical condition. i am assuming that "medical condition" is Type 2 Diabetes. just be wary that diabetes does not simply materialise overnight. it takes years before its symptoms manifest (and once they do, there is no…
