I recommend the Couch to 5k program to get started, it will pace you and has built in rest days. I started with it and now run 60+ miles a week. Have run more 5Ks and 10Ks than I can count, 5 half marathons and am training for my first marathon. Running isn't for everyone but it is a GREAT way to maxamize calories burnt in…

Haven't missed a day in over 2 years (795 days to date).

Check your shoes, your weight will determine how many miles you should put on them. Ice if you have pain, stretching post run is more important than prerun. Funally, you need to break your runs up, 6 miles is a good base but I would run at least one run a week faster but a shorter distance (say two miles as fast as you can…

What exercise (if any) are you doing?
-
Should eat some of them to keep metabolism at its peak. I try to eat at least 50% of them, some days it is a challenge - today I have run 18.5 miles so it would be difficult to do it.
-
Simple math, you need to burn more than you eat. I'm in maintenance mode now (have run 12.5 mils today) - before the day is done I will have eaten around 3800 calories.
-
You should not do the same workout every day, need to mix it up. I run as my primary exercise but i only do it 5-6 days a week, I bike and/or do Zumba on the off days. You need to give you body time to recover.

I'm at about 450 straight days now. :)

Just finished 10.25 mile run in 1:26:23.

Excellent! It is how I started running and now I average around 60 miles a week. Keep it up!

If you feel like you are going to throw up, your blood sugar level has probably dropped. I would suggest a small snack (such as a banana) before you run. I also would suggest the Couch to 5k program, it really works. 3 years ago I was 320 pounds, I'm down 125 pounds +/- and now run 50-60 miles a week and have never felt…

175 for August.

I'm in, put me down for 175.

Maybe the wrong shoes? I run a bit (45-50 miles a week) and I get 300-325 miles out of a pair, I wear my running shoes for running ONLY as they wear differently for walking, casual wear, etc. Would help to know a little more about your workout before offering more of an opinion though.

I tend to eat about half my exercise calories, I haven't ever plateaued doing it this way. If you do not eat any of them, as you ramp up your exercise program you will slow your metabolism.
-
I started with it, now run 45-50 miles a week. My weightloss speaks for itself and running has been a big part of my ability to maintain it.
-
I started out walking, then completed the C25K and now run 45-50 miles a week. I have completed over 10 5Ks, a 7.5K, 2 10Ks, a half marathon and am training for a marathon on 7/14/2012. The thing about running is it can be done anywhere, by anyone and it is hard to get exercise that burns more calories in a shorter period…

Way to go! I would suggest you walk as you plan, maybe 30-60 days and then work towards running. Running will burn more calories in a shorter period of time. The Couch to 5k program is an excellent way to get started, you will be able to run the whole 3.1 miles (5k) within about 9 weeks. I srated at 318 pounds and I'm lost…

I started with the Couch to 5k program and now I would consider myself a "serious" runner (I run around 50 miles a week, have run 10-12 5Ks, a 7.5K, a couple of 10Ks, a half marathon and am training for a marathon in July), I mention this not to brag but hopefully give some credibality to my post. I have lost 128 pounds…

So called "barefoot" shoes are actually minimalist running shoes and are not for everyone. Primarily they are for shorter distances and people with either a high or normal arch. If you are going to run I suggest two things: 1) try the Couch to 5k program (it is a great way to get started), 2) if you do run you need to make…

Never, I build it in to my routine.
-
You need to build in recovery time. I average around 50 miles a week and about every forth week I cut back to 25-30 miles at a slower pace. You should also build in a rest day, only run 5-6 days out of every 7. Your legs feel heavy because of lactic acid build up and you need to give them time to recover. Also, pre-run…

I started with walking and then a friend told me about the C25K program (Couch To 5K), In now run 40-50 miles a week, every week. It is how I live my life, healthier than I have been in years.
-
It works, I started with it about 21 months ago. I now run 45-50 miles a week, have run 10 5Ks, a 7.5K, 2 10Ks, a half marathon and am training for a marathon that I will run in July. It really works!
-
Are you streatching before AND after your run? Tried ice to help with inflamation?
-
Excellent effort!
-
First week, very possible.
-
I started much the same as you and but never until recently asked myself that question. a good friend said "you are a serious runner".... I went from maybe a mile a time 3 times a week to what I run now, 40-45 miles a week, 8 5Ks, a 10k and yesterday a half marathon. part of it is mindset, part of it is effort, part of it…

If it helps you meet your goal and maintain your weight loss, why would you want to?
