odd question about shoes/breakdown

I'm sorry if this is not the board to post this in. I have noticed my shoes breakdown/wear out a lot faster than everyone else. I get a lot of foot pains I'm assuming thats just from being overweight and the pressure from working out. Does anyone else have an issue with their shoes like I do? Its almost like I buy a new pair every month. Any shoes good to prevent it or am I just buying a new pair every month till I get under control?

Thanks for the Help!
~Denise

    Hi Denise,

What do you mean by "wear out"?
What kind of activity are you doing?
Do you wear heels or flats when you're not in your runners?

The only thing I can think of is that you might need/benefit from othrotic inserts. Can you see a podiatrist for a professional opinin? Or go to a shop like Footlocker where they assess your step-type?

    Sorry that's not very helpful.

If you are using them for working out including walking/running you should go to a proper running store where basically they map how you run/walk and can advise you on on the correct shoes with the correct support that you need.

This should get rid of the pain and i believe will make them last longer at least more than a month anyway. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Maybe the wrong shoes? I run a bit (45-50 miles a week) and I get 300-325 miles out of a pair, I wear my running shoes for running ONLY as they wear differently for walking, casual wear, etc.

Would help to know a little more about your workout before offering more of an opinion though.

I would say to head to a local store that's knowledgable (like a sporting/running type store) and see what recommendations they have for you. What kind or where do you usually get your shoes? If you're getting them cheaper that may be the cause too - they might not be made for the activities you're doing or just are poor quality. Checking out some running/walking specific shoes and getting some advice from a specialty store would definitely be my first step!

I agree with everything here.... Don't buy cheap sneakers. If you are having pain, go to a podiatrist or professional shoe store or even many chiropractors and be fitted for an orthotic. Best of luck!

If you are just going to a sporting goods store and picking cute sneakers this could be the start.... Anytime someone I know asks about getting started in running the first thing I tell them is to go to a Running Store that focuses on Running only..... they will be able to fit you in the right sneaker for your stride and weight... Good luck!

You may be buying the wrong type of shoe for your feet. A good shoe should last about 6 months. I would go to a athletic shoe only store and get fitted, or mizuno.com has a pretty detailed test you can do at home that will tell you what type of shoe you need.
