I've been trying to eat more protein for breakfast, but today i was really craving cereal. Unfortunately we were out of milk. But i made do. Multi grain Cheerios, unsweetened almond milk, jaggery, chocolate chips. 234 calories. Not bad considering the unsweetened milk.

Farm raised fish wasn't part of my original statement, because in terms of health, farm raised fish is, on average, still healthier than other meats, on average. Not only cold water fish are high in omega 3 fats, although those fish have some of the highest amounts. Farmed fish are sometimes deliberately given high-omega-3…

Yes definitely. But there are enough studies that have attempted to control for these factors, and get the same correlations, that it convinces me. And it convinces major health organizations, like the WHO, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society, who all recommend choosing fish before red meat.

Same for me! This is why i eat a lot of canned seafood. I'd love to eat more fresh local seafood, living in Seattle and all, but (1) it's expensive, and (2) i usually fail at cooking it.

Certainly not all fish is farmed. I avoid farm raised fish myself because of environmental concerns. Even so, farm raised fish has higher levels of omega 3 fat than pasture raised beef.

Risk of heart disease and cancer is subjective? OK... Pure as in it's nearly all protein and not much else. What else would it mean? For instance bluefin tuna's calories are 70% protein, 30% fat, and 0% carb. A blade roast of beef, trimmed to 0" fat, is 67% fat, 33% protein, 0% carb. Numbers from nutritiondata.com.

It sounds like you need to eat more. I'm short, so 1200 calories is appropriate for me, and i burn about 200 calories a day. I can keep satiated by eating enough water, fiber and/or protein. But it sounds like you are exercising more than that, so you need more calories. For me, i eat back any calories i burn after about…

Seafood has healthier fats than other meat - it's high in omega 3 fats. While red meat had been implicated in heart disease and cancer, seafood has consistently been shown to reduce your risk of both. And poultry is generally a wash. Yes, purified protein has more protein than seafood. I should have clarified that it's the…

Fat is very filling per unit volume, but it is also very caloric! It is NOT filling per calorie for that reason. Usually when people talk of a macro being satiating, they mean per calorie, not per volume. Another point of confusion is that fat is important for making food palatable, but being palatable is not the same as…

Your macros aren't terribly important for weight loss; total calories is the key thing. However, eating enough protein will help you feel full, not lose muscle (you want to lose fat not muscle), and may minimize adaptive thermogenesis. Lifting weights will also help with the last two things. I also struggle with getting…

Don't put potatoes through a blender (or food processor), it'll turn to glue! You have to mash potatoes by hand. Other veggies are fine in a blender.

You can make a recipe and then add the recipe, or just add each ingredient directly.

My dad makes an omelette most mornings. He just adds whatever leftovers there are from dinner the night before! If there are no leftovers, he adds liver. Cream cheese, smoked salmon, and mushrooms are my favorite additions.

My protein is 40%, and that's with rounding down. Coming from a vegetarian diet, this is a large amount of protein! I rarely hit it, but for weight loss, i know it doesn't matter, and weight loss is my main goal right now. When the weight is gone, I'll have a more reasonable protein rec and it'll be easier to hit. It'll…

The only time i take a multivitamin is during pregnancy. Otherwise, some studies have shown multivitamins can do more harm than good. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/news/20131216/experts-dont-waste-your-money-on-multivitamins I do however supplement with specific vitamins and minerals as needed. Currently…

This. You need to eat more.

Completely untrue. If you are tall or active, yes. But not everyone's the same. Small sedentary people with efficient metabolisms, like me, won't lose any weight without getting close to 1200. My maintenance calories are only 1500. If I'm not watching my intake i naturally eat about 1700 calories which makes me gain. For…

Eat more protein. Neither toast nor fruit have much protein.

Some things i don't log ... Like one slice of sweet pepper. But 1/4 cookie or a spoonful of PB? I absolutely log those. They are calorie dense. Many times 1/4 of a cookie IS my entire dessert.

Berries, low fat yogurt, egg. 227cal.

Eat more fat.

Cottage cheese Eggs Tofu & tempeh have the highest protein % of the beans Mushrooms are the best of the vegetables

I allow myself up to 4 days a month that i don't have to track calories. This gives me plenty of days for birthdays, etc. I don't always use these "cheat days". They allow me to enjoy the day because i don't enjoy tracking. I still try to eat somewhat healthy, and not overeat too much. As for specific caloric foods, i…

I need 1500 calories to maintain, i eat 1200 calories to lose. It's taken me a year to lose 20 pounds, so a little under half a pound a week.

Nothing better than brushed with olive oil, sprinkled with salt, and broiled in the oven. Although usually i just eat them raw because i can't be bothered. :)
-
How do you do that? I use the Android app and i don't see a way to do that in settings. I'd rather just see my macros.
-
You are going over your calories and fats. The fats are causing you to go over your calories because fats are calorie dense. Reduce the fat and eat more protein and fiber.
-
Fat is satiating per volume, but because it's so calorie dense, it's not very satiating per calorie. It's good for making food palatable, but use it in moderation.

Stress can cause physical symptoms - absolutely. I've been there many times. Stress is not only caused by negative thinking, though. As a previous poster pointed out, major positive events can cause stress too. Researchers have long noted that clinical depression mimics physical illness - you become withdrawn, you want to…
