Business Attire Pics
How do you guys look when you're dressed up. You know, like you're about to go on an important job interview, make a big power deal on Wall Street or to a formal gathering. I'll start. Here I am before I decided to grow a beard.

50 and over Crowd- Rest Days?
Of course, anyone of any age is welcome to chime in. How often do you guys who are 50 plus take rest days? I am 51 years old. Seems like ever since I started lifting, the gym has almost become an addiction. I guess it's better than being addicted to drugs/alcohol/gambling but as the saying goes, too much of anything is bad…

Anyone Here Do Lots of Lifting without Protein Shakes
I want to preface by saying that I have nothing against protein shakes or people that drink them. I love lifting, whether it's free weights, machines, cables or just using my own body weight. However, I have not developed any kind of urge to drink protein shakes or to go shopping for protein powder. I also use no…

Broken Ankle Recovery
I feel like sharing a success story of mine. About 5 months ago, I slipped and fell down after a freak injury and broke my ankle so badly, it required surgery. I'm someone who has run numerous 5 and 10K runs to go along with a full marathon and a half marathon. Needless to say, this was a crushing blow for me. Today, for…

Dumbbell versus Barbells
I wanted to get all my fellow lifters' takes on which they prefer, dumbbells or barbells. I'm more of a dumbbell lifter myself. Barbells are better if you want to really test your overall strength (i.e. Squats, bench press) etc but for consistent training and strengthening your muscles, I feel as though dumbbells work…

Maintenance mode but................................
Okay, I'm finally in a maintenance mode and I figured at 211 lbs (6'2"), I no longer need to "lose weight." However, I would like to do a better job at distributing my existing weight. I'm a lifter for the most part and I do cardio only out of a necessity, though I did once enjoy a good run before I broke my ankle 5 months…

Recovery/Rest for Lifters
Fellow lifters, I wanted to get your input on rest and recovery. Besides your typical one (maybe 2) rest days per week, do any of you take a week (or perhaps longer) off to fully recover. Just from talking to other guys at the gym, one tells me that if you've been hitting hard for several months in a row, it would do a…

Favorite One Hit Wonders
Calling all music lovers. What is your favorite one hit wonder. Those of you may not know, it's a song that was done by an artist that went really high on the charts but it was their only hit. Quite a few of them. Right off hand: "Macarena" by Los Del Rio, "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men, "don't worry be happy" by Bobby…

50 and over crowd
I turned 50 in November and was looking for some peers in my age group (50 and over). Of course, if you're on the cusp of turning 50 (47-49), that would probably include you guys too. What are your fitness goals? Challenges? What are your nutritional choices? I am including both guys and gals. I probably need to lose only…

Anyone recovering from Major Injuries/Surgeries
I just jogged on the treadmill for the first time in 5 months. I broke my ankle 5 months ago and had to have surgery. I felt so good running on that treadmill. Anyone else out there who recently broke any bones or had surgery that's looking for some motivation. Please feel free to join in. Jason

Losing weight/inches without losing muscle
About 5 months ago, I had an unfortunate accident which caused me to break my ankle which resulted in surgery. As a result of being pretty immobile, I gained some unwanted pounds (I also admit that I wasn’t eating very healthy). My weight before the accident was 202 lbs but then it peaked to about 225 around Christmas.…

Discussion- Dumbbell Flyes
Incline DB Flyes are one of my favorite chest exercises. It's also a good secondary workout for my shoulders. However, lately, I've been hearing lots of doom and gloom about doing this workout. Usually, if you only hear negative feedback once or maybe twice, you can dismiss it pretty easily and not take it too seriously.…

45-55 Year olds (male or female) who seriously lift
Or within a reasonable ball park of that age group. I will turn 50 in less than 4 months and I'm probably stronger now than was when I was in my 20's. I'm reaching out to those who are around this age category to get a sense of what your regiment looks like. What do you do for recovery? How often do you do cardio? Do you…

Calling all strength trainers flirting with 50 (or older)
I started weight lifting seriously nearly 3 years ago and at first, I was trying to tone my body. Now, I want to take strength training and building muscle to a whole new level. I'm aware that there are risks associated with injury from weight lifting and that's why I want to be smart about it, (i.e get enough rest,…

Vanity
Hey everyone. I'm not sure where to post this message. It's sort of a success story but I guess it could also go under motivation and support. I used to always be the skinny kid, the weakling when I was growing up. Hell, sometimes a girl would be able to open up the the tightened up ketchup bottle before I could. Now, as I…

Calling all Weight Lifters 45-55
Give or take a few years, men and women. I am very committed to strength training, whether it's weightlifting, push ups or working my core. I will be 49 in early November and am trying to find the right balance. I notice that many on my friends list will have a "leg day" or a "bicep day" or any day committed to working out…

Lower Back Pain While Running
I recently took up running again and I was very excited once I got my endurance back and was able to go 2 miles without stopping. However, I'm starting to get this nagging lower back pain. It only happens to me after a run of about 30 minutes or so. I ran two marathons, one as recently as 2 and 1/2 years ago and never had…

Men & Women- between ages 40-55 (give or take a few yrs)
I'm a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to fitness. I really didn't get started until I was about 42 and have been consistently hitting the gym or doing some strength and conditioning or cardio exercise ever since. A high blood pressure scare made me change my diet and adopt a more healthy lifestyle. I would like to hear…

Calling all Fellow Men between 45-55
Give or take a few years. I'm specifically targeting those who are into strength training (building muscle, losing body fat). What do some of your workout regiments look like? How often do you mix a little cardio with your strength training? Do you use any supplements? I just started to seriously lift weights a little over…

Gym Addiction
About 10 years ago, going to the gym was something that I had to almost force myself to do. I would come up with all kinds of excuses to do something else instead. Today, it's the other way around. I know rest days are necessary but sometimes I forget about them and I workout anyway. I suppose there could be far worse…

Workouts that You Love to Hate
What are some of the workouts you do that can be so intense and uncomfortable, yet you just love the results that you get from them. You actually dread doing them but you know that they have to be done in order to get that definition. Mine are weighted plank rows (on the floor in a pushup position) and of course, burpees.…
