Article re: Immunity in adipose tissue
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3954849/pdf/nihms-531824.pdf So, this isn't specifically LCHF related, but I figured some people here might be interested. An article citing this review popped up on one of my RSS feeds for a treatment I take for an autoimmune disease. It was the first I heard of the variations…

Nutrition value of chicken skin?
Anyone know the nutritional values for chicken skin? (Roasted). I can't find it in the database or the USDA site, but I'm not the best at using the USDA site. To clarify, when I roast a chicken, I eat the skin on the day I cook it as a treat, and tend to eat the meat separate from the skin over a few days. Thanks for any…

Your favorite podcast for weightloss motivation
I found the podcast "Half Size Me" by Heather Robinson (sp?). I love it!! She's so upbeat and positive, with a great body-positive view, and realistic discussions of eating habits we probably all have if we've made it to 300+ pounds. She lost 170 lbs (after a few starts and regains) and has kept it off for several years.…

What are you listening to?
I'm building some new playlists... What are your favorite workout songs? What activities do you do when listening to them? (I.e., is it a walking pace, running pace, weight lifting, etc) Any podcasts you listen to when walking?

Science buffs and medical staff help me figure this out please!
What happens in terms of metabolic acidosis/ alkalosis with LCHF? Ketosis is a metabolic acidosis, right? A respiratory compensation is expected? (I hated this aspect of medicine, I might have it completely backwards and would appreciate correction if needed!)

Rituximab? Any effect on nutrition?

Struggling to reach my protein goals
Due to low appetite and trouble with weakness of my chewing/ swallowing muscles, I'm struggling to reach my protein goals. Some days I barely make it, and other days I'm under by up to 30-40 grams. My weekly average is quite poor. I'm doing the best I can in terms of mitigating the swallowing issues-- puréeing meats, etc.…

Exercise when flaring
What are your favorite low-key ways to keep moving during a flare? I have Myasthenia Gravis, which causes muscle weakness that worsens with repetitive use, so I have to take it extra slow. I've found that stretching helps a lot, and I took a few lessons with a Restorative Yoga teacher to work on establishing some normal…

'Simmer Sauce' recipes request
I'm in a frustrating spot, needing to purée foods and thicken liquids due to swallowing problems from a muscle disease I have. Makes for a blah texture, and I'm trying to boost the flavors to compensate, while keeping food prep easy and energy-efficient. I'm looking for some Thai or Indian flavor inspirations, in…

Puréed LCHF meals?
any suggestions for puréed meals? Smoothies, soups and the like? Usually I rely on pâté for protein when I can't swallow solid food, but even that has been too difficult. Any smoothie lovers out there with suggestions?

Body fat% scales
So, I bought a scale (Omoro brand) that measures body fat percentage, but it seems very inconsistent to me. I'm not sure if it's because I'm so heavy and at the upper limits of its range, or if I'm losing lean weight and not fat, or what. The readings from the scale range from 47-52% body fat, and have since I started MFP…

So I just saw my primary doctor...
Saw him for a knee injection. He noticed my weight and was impressed with the loss since I saw him in April. He was full of questions on how I did it, didn't seem too knowledgable on keto/ low-carb diets but he was open to learning about it and happy it's working for me. So nice to have an open-minded doc!

When is weightloss too rapid?
I know conventional recommendations (in the US at aleast) are for 1-1.5 lb per week. What rate is too fast when on low carb. I know that electrolyte problems can occur, and can at worst lead to arrhythmia and heart problems. Where does that point lay? I've been losing about 3-4 pounds a week, but have just been at this for…

How do you like your Coconut Oil?
For those who take coconut oil or MCT oil daily-- how do you eat it? Straight up, or mixed in with veggies or a drink, or other ways? I'm working with a dietician who recommended I take a tablespoon at every meal, but I don't particularly care for the taste by itself. I tried spreading it over veggies but it just oozed all…

What would you have done?
I was in a tough spot yesterday, and blew my carb goal (~100gm instead of my goal of 50-60gm.). I also logged way more exercise than usual, had plenty of calories to eat. I was out of town and didn't pack enough food for dinner. In a rush, and the MG making me weak from the work, I choose to go through drive-thru fast food…

"Signs you need to increase your protein intake"
I found this article interesting and thought some of you may, too: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/12-signs-you-need-to-eat-more-protein/#axzz3aLiViEn9 @FIT_Goat - halfway down he talks about how glycine (the main amino acid in collagen- and therefore in pork rinds) counteracts methionine toxicity, which can occur when all…

Wahoo!! This is my lowest weight yet!!
So, Saturday's are usually my heaviest days, due to a high-dose medical steroid dose on Fridays and a blood product infusion that causes quite a bit of swelling. It hasn't been uncommon for me to gain 10-14 pounds from Friday morning to Saturday morning. It's been a consistent pattern since I started the infusions last…
